2 Overview BCBSNC name in text The Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (BCBSNC) logos are available in the versions featured on the following page. Logos are available in a variety of electronic formats. Use the logos exactly as they appear. Altering the logos is strictly prohibited. The BCBSNC logo may appear only in the clearly defined configurations shown in the examples on the following pages. + The specifications for the proportions, spacing and alignment of the graphic elements in the logos have been established; there are no exceptions to these specifications. + No matter what the context, never attempt to create another version of any BCBSNC-related logo by combining the elements in a different way. + Use ONLY the logo artwork shown on the next page for any materials related to BCBSNC. Note: All pieces developed for public release must follow Corporate Style guidelines and be reviewed and approved by BCBSNC. Please send requests for review to When using our name in text, it should be written as follows: Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina Variations such as the following are not acceptable and should not be used: BlueCross BlueShield Blue Cross/Blue Shield of NC Blue Cross & Blue Shield/NC In cases where a long text document is involved, such as a newspaper article, use the company s full name the first time it is mentioned, followed by the acronym BCBSNC in parentheses. Use the acronym BCBSNC for any secondary mentions in the document. Example: Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (BCBSNC) has been in business for more than 80 years. BCBSNC is also a leader in developing innovative health care products, services and information. Other BCBSNC related logos There are a number of other logos for individual BCBSNC plans and programs that you may have access to and may have used in the past. In the future, please use only the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina logo in communications regarding any BCBSNC plan or program. Refer to the plan or program in plain text. Please discontinue using individual plan or program logos on future materials. 2

3 Color Flush Left (preferred configuration) Centered (optional configuration) When to use the Flush Left logo 2 Color: Cyan & Black (CB) (preferred color) 2 Color: Cyan & White (CW) For use on a solid dark background (preferred color) White (W) For use on a solid dark background Cyan (C) Black (B) The Flush Left logo is the preferred configuration. It works well in horizontal applications where it can be proportionately scaled to fit the desired area. When to use the Centered logo The Centered logo is an optional configuration that allows the logo to be proportionately scaled larger than the Flush Left logo within a vertical or narrow application and still be legible and recognizable. When to use the cyan and black logo The cyan and black logo version is preferred. Whenever possible, please use this color choice. The cyan and white logo version is also a preferred option if placing the logo on a dark solid background. If you are limited to using one color, use the all cyan, all black or all white version, depending on which works best in the design. Required legal The legal copy line, An independent licensee of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association. is embedded within the logo files provided. This statement must be included whenever the BCBSNC logo is displayed or the BCBSNC name is used in text. When it is impractical to use this line in conjunction with the logo (when it is judged to be either too large or too small within the context of the piece) the line may be placed elsewhere, in most cases at the bottom of the piece. It should be as visually independent of other copy or graphics as possible. When the line is not linked with the logo it should read: Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina is an independent licensee of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association. Use the BCBSNC abbreviation if it has been used in the text or if there s not sufficient space to use the full name. Whatever the context, whether next to the logo or separated from it, the licensee disclosure must be clearly legible. 3

4 Logo colors Logo color modes Logo file formats PMS Process Cyan C 100 M 0 Y 0 K 0 R 0 G 174 B 239 PMS Process Black C 0 M 0 Y 0 K 100 R 35 G 31 B 32 RGB (Red/Green/Blue): Used for most in-house non-professional printing, projection, video and online purposes. This color mode is typically used in Microsoft applications such as, Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Other applications may include: Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Premier, Keynote, etc. CMYK (Cyan/Magenta/Yellow/Black): Used for out-of-house professional process offset printing and/or professional digital printing. This color mode is typically used in multiple Abobe applications such as, Indesign, Illustrator and Photoshop. PMS (Pantone Matching System): Used for out-of-house professional spot offset printing and/ or promotional/t-shirt screen printing when only 1 or 2 exact ink colors are preferred. This color mode is typically used in Indesign or Illustrator. PMS logo files are only available per specific request. EPS (Encapsulated Post Script) transparent background Vector: Art created with lines using Adobe Illustrator; may be placed in Indesign, QuarkXpress and Photoshop. Typically used in page or document layout as well as promotional product imprinting and embroidering. This file format is considered high resolution. True vector art is scalable without pixilation. PNG (Portable Network Graphics) transparent background JPG or JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group) solid white background Raster/Bitmapped: Art created with pixels by exporting out of Adobe Illustrator for importing into Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. May also be used in other applications such as, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Premier, Keynote, etc. This file format is considered low resolution. Caution: Logo will become pixilated when enlarged in this format. Logo placement Minimal logo size White/clear/empty space equal to the height and width of the Cross icon is required around all four sides of the logo. To ensure legibility and recognition, do not reduce the logo smaller than the dimensions noted below.
