2 Principal s Report Sick Kids The cold and flu season seems to have hit us already, with lots of students being struck down with illness. For safety's sake, if your child seems unwell you should always keep them home from school and seek medical advice. Below is a link to a Too Sick For School? chart that can help answer your questions about common childhood illness and how long sick kids need to miss school. PLEASE NOTE: This information has been supplied by NSW Health and is not intended to replace a visit to your doctor if anyone in your family is unwell. Before and After School Supervision It is the responsibility of all staff members at Vaucluse Public School to actively provide for the protection, safety and welfare of students. Our duty of care hours are between 8.50am 3.20pm. Supervision of students begins at 8.50am. If your child arrives before this time they need to be placed in before school care (VOOSC). During morning duty, all students are expected to be in the top playground. In the case of wet weather, teachers will be in their classrooms from 8.50am onwards. At 3.20pm, classroom teachers monitor the picking up of students by parents or carers outside their classroom. One staff member also supervises the crossing on Cambridge Ave and one staff member is on bus duty. Students catching the bus should assemble at the bottom gate (Village High Road gate) and proceed under teacher supervision to the bus stop. If a student has permission to walk home, the student should proceed directly to the nearest designated exit point. Years 1-6 students booked into after school care (VOOSC) should report directly to the VOOSC area. Only Kindergarten students are picked up directly from the Kindergarten rooms every afternoon. Please be aware that students and their siblings are not allowed to use the fixed playground equipment before school or after the 3.20pm bell. Equipment Signage Next week we will be placing new signs up around the fixed playground equipment. We ask that you observe and follow these signs for the safety of your child. Students using the equipment need to be supervised by a school teacher. Again, this means that there should be no students on the equipment before or after school. We thank you for your support in this matter. Relieving Principal Philippa Allen

6 Annual Fundraiser Thinking of making a donation? The annual Vaucluse Public School fundraiser will be a cocktail party held on Friday 9th September at Doyle s on the Beach, Watson s Bay. We will be raising funds for the 375 primary school children who attend Vaucluse Public School. All donations will go towards providing the education resources required by the school that assist in improving the level of literacy and numeracy of the children so that we can help to make the school a centre of learning excellence. Funds raised in previous years have paid for the establishment of the library and the many books, computers, support teachers, the soccer field, the netball court, timber decked seating and learning resources required for the children. These costs are not funded by the government. In order to ensure the success of this event, we are seeking donations of prizes which will be auctioned or raffled on the night. Every member of the community can make a valued contribution to the auctions and raffles held on the night. Here are some suggestions parents and family may be able to contribute: Yoga classes Music classes Stand Up Paddleboard classes Gym membership Beauty treatments Restaurant meals Home delivered meals Tickets to a concert A weekend dog minding/ walking service A home landscaping make over Pool cleaning service An afternoon tea at Dunbar House A weekend away at your holiday house A trip around the harbour on your boat We would be so grateful if you could donate a prize to make the evening a success. You can donate a prize from a company you know personally through your work - or simply buy a gift or service that you think others in the community would enjoy. We would be so grateful for any donation - big or small, please contact your class volunteer with your suggestions. With thanks Vaucluse Public School Parents and Citizens Committee
7 Harry Potter: Sorcerer s Stone Harry Potter is a GREAT book. It s about Harry getting told he s a wizard and going to Hogwarts. He s learning how to be a wizard and he meets Ron Weasley and Hermionie Granger. The book is about friendship, school and most definitely a mystery dun, dun, dun!!! I recommend this book to boys and girls. It s very well written definitely and if you like fantasy, this would be a really good book for you! I give it By Taylor N It could have been worse It could have been worse a fun book that is funny and interesting. A mouse named mouse comes back from his town cousins house. He needs to get home before he gets eaten! I think this book is appropriate for boys and girls for ages 1 to 8. By Tim burke.
8 VOOSC NEWS After School Activities We have been enjoying our Hula Hooping on Monday afternoons for Term 1&2. However, it is now time to mix things up and try a new activity. Bunny Star, our instructor has been wonderful and delivered a really fun workshop. The children have really loved learning new techniques and fancy tricks with Hoops. We will maybe plan to do this again next year if the kids request it. For Term 3, we will move sport to a Wednesday afternoon so that children who have missed out on the hoop workshop, will also have the opportunity to participate in a sport activity. Our booked activity is Baseball, which will also involve a mixed bag of fun activities to assist children in supporting and developing gross motor, hand- eye co-ordination and team building skills. As a community focused, not for Profit service, our aim is to put back into the service and provide our children with opportunities to enjoy. This is of no extra cost to families who have children booked on these days. We will continue to change the days we provide activities to allow for as many children as possible to have these experiences whilst at Voosc. Vacation Care Our vacation care program is coming together nicely and should be available for our families next week (fingers crossed!) A word of advice, there will be a booking deadline to meet so please ensure that when the program is hot off the press, places for your children are secured within the time frames indicated on the program. Please understand as explained before each holiday break, that we also have deadlines for bookings and payments and need to be very organised in order to run a smooth, safe and hiccup free holiday for our children. Voosc Stars Otis B Congratulations Otis, your star is for excellent sportsmanship and fair play in all things you participate in. Welcome to the Wall of Fame Otis! Aliyah R Congratulations Aliyah, your Star is for trying new activities and not giving up the challenge when things get tricky. You are a Super Star for our Wall of Fame! Warm Regards VOOSC TEAM
