3 of community services Certificate IV in Mental Health CHC43315 According to a recent survey by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), almost one in five Australians has experienced symptoms of a mental health illness during the last 12 months. Anxiety, depression and substance use disorders are common areas for concern. Mental health is a complex issue and people need continuing support from those who are trained to provide effective care in a time of need. This course is aimed at individuals who may be working in the health or community services sector, volunteering at a place where people present with mental health issues, or who may have recent experience with a friend or family member who needed additional support. This course has been designed to give you a strong, theory-backed knowledge base and the ability to work within three main areas of focus: rehabilitation and support for people affected by mental illness, working collaboratively with care networks and services and mental health promotion. Specifically, you ll learn about rehabilitation and support, and the link between mental health, and anxiety, alcohol and other drugs. If you are currently (or plan to be) implementing community based activities or engaging in mental health promotion work it is essential to equip yourself with the skills that will ensure you are able to effectively deal with people who experience mental health challenges. Roles in human resources, community groups and support services might all benefit. A work placement is included in this course where you will work with an approved workplace supervisor to support you in your studies, allowing you to gain practical skills. The CHC43315 Certificate IV in Mental Health is a course that could open up many professional avenues for your career, particularly if you are passionate about specialising in mental health issues. A work placement can be a highly stimulating and rewarding part of the course. It will enable you to participate in a real workplace and put into practise the new skills and knowledge that you are learning in the course. The work placement also provides Open Colleges with an opportunity to assess the skills and knowledge you have developed through the course in the workplace. This is called workplace assessment. Students will often undertake work placement in their current workplace or find a workplace through their friends, family or colleagues. If you experience difficulties finding a work placement, Open Colleges will provide you with advice, resources and support through our work placement support team. An Open Colleges workplace assessor will determine whether the workplace is appropriate to undertake work placement as part of the course.
