Definition, three elements, mediator and place I. REVIEW OF THE WORDS OF THE COVENANT 16 COVENANT PROMISES / 16 ASPECTS OF THE BLESSING OF ABRAHAM THAT PASS TO CHILDREN OF ABRAHAM / NO CURSE 1. GREATNESS I will make you a great nation 2. BLESS I will bless you 3. EXALTED NAME and make your name great 4. BLESSING you will be a blessing 5. BLESS ALL FAMILIES OF THE EARTH Gen. 12:3 6. BLESS ALL NATIONS OF THE EARTH Gen. 22:18 7. MATERIAL PROSPERITY Abraham was very rich in silver, gold and cattle 8. RECOMPENSE I will bless those who bless you curse those who curse 9. PROTECTION I am your shield 10. REWARD I am your exceeding great reward 11. FRUITFULNESS I will make you exceedingly fruitful 12. RIGHTEOUSNESS He counted it to him for righteousness 13. ROYAL NATURE kings shall come from you 14. AN EVERLASTING POSSESSION Abraham heir of the world (Ro. 4:13) 15. ULTIMATE VICTORY descendants shall possess the gate of their enemies 16. PROMISE OF THE SPIRIT promise of the Spirit through faith (Gal. 3:14)

2 II. FIVE WAYS GENTILES BECOME CHILDREN OF ABRAHAM A. TRANSFER THROUGH THE MESSIAH / GENEALOGICAL Gal 3:13 Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, "CURSED IS EVERYONE WHO HANGS ON A TREE"), Gal 3:14 that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. B. SPIRITUAL BEGETTING / TRANSFER OF REVELATION 1 Cor. 4:15 For though you might have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet you do not have many fathers; for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel. C. FOLLOWING THE EXAMPLE OF ABRAHAM S FAITH Gal 3:7 KJV they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham. D. FOLLOWING THE EXAMPLE OF ABRAHAM S WORKS / JOHN 8:31-44 Joh 8:39 They answered and said to Him, "Abraham is our father." Jesus said to them, "If you were Abraham's children, you would do the works of Abraham. E. SURRENDER TO THE GOD OF ABRAHAM Gal 3:29 And if you are Christ's, then you are Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.

SACRIFICE OF THE COVENANT Gen 15:17 And it came to pass, when the sun went down and it was dark, that behold, there appeared a smoking oven and a burning torch that passed between those pieces. Gen 15:18 On the same day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying: "To your descendants I have given this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the River Euphrates IV. TOKEN (SYMBOL, SIGN, SEAL) OF THE COVENANT A. Circumcision is the token or sign of the Abrahamic covenant. B. Circumcision is the surgical removal of the foreskin of the male organ. C. Genesis 17--When this covenant practice was first introduced to Abraham. First time God reveals Himself as El Shaddai (pronounced el shad-dah -ee). Gen 17:1 When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the LORD appeared to Abram and said to him, "I am Almighty God; walk before Me and be blameless. Gen 17:2 And I will make My covenant between Me and you, and will multiply you exceedingly." Gen 17:3 And Abram fell on his face: and God talked with him, saying, Gen 17:4 As for me, behold, my covenant is with thee, and thou shalt be a father of many nations. Gen 17:5 Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee.

4 GENESIS 17:9-14 Gen 17:9 And God said to Abraham: "As for you, you shall keep My covenant, you and your descendants after you throughout their generations. Gen 17:10 This is My covenant which you shall keep, between Me and you and your descendants after you: Every male child among you shall be circumcised; Gen 17:11 and you shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskins, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between Me and you. Gen 17:12 He who is eight days old among you shall be circumcised, every male child in your generations, he who is born in your house or bought with money from any foreigner who is not your descendant. Gen 17:13 He who is born in your house and he who is bought with your money must be circumcised, and My covenant shall be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant. Gen 17:14 And the uncircumcised male child, who is not circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin, that person shall be cut off from his people; he has broken My covenant." D. Acts 7:8 Abrahamic covenant was even called the covenant of circumcision. 1. The sign and the seal (Rom 4:1-12) Rom 4:7 "BLESSED ARE THOSE WHOSE LAWLESS DEEDS ARE FORGIVEN, AND WHOSE SINS ARE COVERED; Rom 4:8 BLESSED IS THE MAN TO WHOM THE LORD SHALL NOT IMPUTE SIN." Rom 4:9 Does this blessedness then come upon the circumcised only, or upon the uncircumcised also? For we say that faith was accounted to Abraham for righteousness.

5 Rom 4:10 How then was it accounted? While he was circumcised, or uncircumcised? Not while circumcised, but while uncircumcised. Rom 4:11 And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had while still uncircumcised, that he might be the father of all those who believe, though they are uncircumcised, that righteousness might be imputed to them also, Rom 4:12 and the father of circumcision to those who not only are of the circumcision, but who also walk in the steps of the faith which our father Abraham had while still uncircumcised. 2. God sought to kill Moses at the Inn because he had not yet circumcised his son. Exo 4:24 And it came to pass on the way, at the encampment, that the LORD met him and sought to kill him. Exo 4:25 Then Zipporah took a sharp stone and cut off the foreskin of her son and cast it at Moses' feet, and said, "Surely you are a husband of blood to me!" Exo 4:26 So He let him go. Then she said, "You are a husband of blood!" because of the circumcision. 3. Joshua had them circumcised after passing over Jordan before they went into to the Promised Land to seize it. (Joshua 5) a. Jos 5:9 Then the LORD said to Joshua, "This day I have rolled away the reproach of Egypt from you." Therefore the name of the place is called Gilgal to this day. 1. Gilgal means rolling

6 2. Strangely the manna ceased shortly after: they had manna when they were uncircumcised and it quit once they were obedient. E. Though it was evidenced in the Old Covenant, in the New Covenant SPIRITUAL CIRCUMCISION is especially the emphasis. 1. The heart is circumcised Deu 10:16 Therefore circumcise the foreskin of your heart, and be stiff-necked no longer. Deu 30:6 And the LORD your God will circumcise your heart and the heart of your descendants, to love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, that you may live. Rom 2:28 For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly, nor is circumcision that which is outward in the flesh; Rom 2:29 but he is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the Spirit, not in the letter; whose praise is not from men but from God. [JUDAH MEANS PRAISE] Col 2:10 and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power. Col 2:11 In Him you were also circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the sins of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, 2. Our spiritual identity Ph. 3:3 For we are the circumcision, who worship God in the Spirit, rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh.

7 3. JESUS is the minister of the circumcision (Ro. 15:8) 4. Circumcision of the ears Act 7:51 "You stiff-necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears! You always resist the Holy Spirit; as your fathers did, so do you. 5. Circumcision of the lips Exo 6:30 But Moses said before the LORD, "Behold, I am of uncircumcised lips, and how shall Pharaoh heed me?" 6. The devil is uncircumcised (Goliath a symbol): Then David spoke to the men who stood by him, saying, "What shall be done for the man who kills this Philistine and takes away the reproach from Israel?
