The newsletter is published monthly and distributed online to all connected members. Those without will get a USPS mail version. Event organized by MTFCSD but all Model T's and novice drivers are welcome. Call Kirt at if you want to attend. Wednesday 17 July Dinner at Charlie's starting at 6pm Saturday 27 July - East County tour to Motor Transportation Museum, Pacific Southwest Railway, Campo Stone Store and McClintock Saddle Work. 2 HVMTC Annual General Meeting Minutes May 4th 2013 Following an excellent lunch at the California Mining Company, with funds collected by Diane, Doug opened the meeting at 2:30 pm The following were in attendance, Virgil & Sharron White, Mac & Diane MacPherson, Doug Lested, Anne Tunnell, Larry & Cindi Cuiffo, Karen & John Pepe, Warren Raps, Heather & Tony Bowker. Doug announced that following the vote at the previous meeting, Stephanie Terrell will be Tour Chair for and the President for Tony Bowker will be Secretary for Diane indicated we had reciepts of $195 and expenses of $78 for the past month, leaving a balence of $ Doug indicated the East County tour will be either July 20 or 27 (later settled on 27th - Tony). The Camp Pendleton House tour will be on May 11, participants MUST advise Doug befoehand. The June Tour wil be the MTFCSD Learn to Drive event Mac handed out nameplate tags to the new officers. Doug closed the meeting at 3 pm. Respectfully submitted Tony Bowker, Secretary Editors Notes I received a very sad from Dell Pound that the other day that his Dad, Buzz had passed. Buzz was never a member of the HVMTC, but for many years he was quite active in the MTFCSD. Buzz was a scientist of the highest order and brought his analytical mind to all things, including the Model T Ford. Along with Don Dechant, they discovered and documented that the Model T only has two ignition timing positions when using the magneto. The results were published in The Vintage Ford. We also went on several long tours with Buzz & Irene and we will greatly miss him. Happy T íng Tony Tidbits. According to a note in Bruce McCalley's "Model T Ford - The Car That Changed The World" there were 165,855 Model T engines built after the last Model T automobile was built in May The last engine along with six others were built on August 4, June 2013 Hidden Valley Model T Club Commutator Page 2

3 San Dieguito Heritage Museum Deep Pit Barbecue, May 18, 2013 Warren Raps invited all the members of thr HVMTC to bring their Model T s to the San Diegito Heritage Museum for the annual deep pit barbecue. In the event only three showed up and most of you missed a great meal and the tour of the museum exhibits. Of course Warren and Richard & Twink Baumann drove from their respective homes, while I trailered from Ramona to Birmingham Ave and drove the remainder of the trip. I had never seen a BBQ pit previously, they dig a BIG hole, probably 4 feet deep and wide and 6 feet long. Then they set a wood fire in the bottom, hang the meat from steel bars across the top of the pit, cover the whole thing with sheets of metal & a layer of soil and leave it for 14 hours. The result is the most delicious meat you can imagine, it melts in your mouth. The BBQ pit Metal covering over the pit The three Model Ts with a Model A interloper. We have visited the museum but the volunteers made every effort to keep it fresh and most exhibit have been revised since we were there last in 2012, and well worth the visit. I especially liked the post WWII pictures of the surfers on the Encinitas beaches. A good day out, sorry most of the club members missed the event, maybe next year! 4 Camp Pendleton Santa Margarita Ranch House Tour, May 11, 2013 Due to the Amgen bicycle race that started at the Performing Arts Center, we met at the shopping plaza just to the north at 9am and left on our tour at 9:30am. Doug handed out the route, which followed Mission Avenue virtual all the way to the Camp Pendleton gate. 9 Tony talking to a passerby about the 99 year old Model T We entered without fuss and made straight for the Santa Margarita Ranch house. It really was quite septacular, giving a glimpse of life in 1800's California. Fancy, most of the lowlands in Pendleton were down to grapes with cattle roaming the upper reaches. 10 After the visit, we moved to the park where we ate our outstanding pot-luck lunch. June 2013 Hidden Valley Model T Club Commutator Page 10

11 Then we drove further into the camp to visit the MACS area which provides a wonderful vista of the airfield and a view of the (cloudy) coast. Following the climb, we exited the camp by the Fallbrook gate and made our way home individually, all making it without any known problems. Another excellent tour by Doug, we are sorry his term as Tour Chairman is ending, Stephanie has big shoes to fill. I provided the dated photos, Richard Bumann contributed the rest, thanks.
