24 And... By reading your child lots of lovely stories and asking lots of questions! Use these prompts to help you: What do you think happens next? What is that character thinking? What is happening? 22/03/15 What is the character saying? What do you think that character is feeling now?

25 And... By talking to your child as much as possible and feeding them new and different words: Let s eat our lunch now. Let s munch our lunch now. Let s scoff our lunch now. Let s devour our lunch now! You re looking... not just... but... I m not just... I m...!

28 Early Years & RWI - Children are introduced to a new speed sound every week in Nursery - Lots of fun activities linked to the focused speed sound to develop and embed phonetically understanding and recognition of the grapheme - Huge emphasis on emergent writing..encouraging children to write in lots of different ways!

29 Moving onto Reception. As your child makes the transition into Reception, they move onto learning a new speed sound each day. To begin with, the RWI session lasts approximately 20 minutes allowing it to be a pacey learning session that incorporates a mixture of reading and writing opportunities. Continuous provision areas are enhancing with a variety of reading and writing opportunities Children are constantly encouraged to develop their emergent writing skills through role play areas and enticing writing activities.

31 Beyond Speed Sounds.. Once your child is confident with reading and blending their speed sounds in Set 1, they move onto Ditties. Ditties are short story books that your child reads along with their perfect partner After reading the story, they complete a writing activity linked to the text To support and enhance the reading of their Ditty books, children also learn a selection of green words that occur frequently throughout the text

32 The wonderful world of words. Children learn to read a wide selection of words during the RWI programme Fred Talk! Green words are decodable words that can be chopped and blended in order to read the word (c-a-t, s-i-t, g-a-p) Red words are non-decodable words children learn to read these through speedy sessions Alien words are..alien! These words are not real words and the children learn to identify words that are real/not real from the way they look and sound. Partner work
