1 JOB DESCRIPTION StreetGames UK Limited Job Title: Finance Director Responsible to: Deputy Chief Executive Location: Manchester Grade/Salary: Up to 55,000 per annum Responsible for: Staff within the Finance, HR, IT & facilities management functions CONTEXT OF THE ROLE StreetGames is a fast growing, entrepreneurial charity that puts first the needs of our network of projects and our young beneficiaries. We are looking to recruit a Finance Director who understands the importance of efficiently managing our back office so that our frontline services continue to be of the highest quality. As a qualified accountant, the postholder will take responsibility for ensuring strong financial and governance systems and practices that reflect the needs of our dynamic organisation. The role requires reporting to multiple funders, flexible financial planning and supporting good governance. The postholder will join our Senior Management Team and will have 2 line reports along with overall responsibility for 3 finance staff, 3 compliance staff and the Business Support Manager and her team of 5 staff, including the Governance Administrator. DESIGNATION OF POST AND POSITION WITHIN TEAM STRUCTURE
2 SUMMARY OF MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES Strategy Contribute to the development of strategy across all areas of the organisation, in particular providing analysis and challenge with respect of financial viability and risk. Develop a strategy to optimise the organisation s financial performance and strategic position, based upon the agreed strategic direction of StreetGames as a whole Prepare long term budgets and financial plans in line with the charity s strategy and planning cycle. Develop strategies for support services, including HR, IT and facilities management to ensure they remain fit for purpose as the organisation grows and changes. Advise the Chief Executive, Senior Management Team and Trustees on all financial matters relevant to the operation of the organisation, its services and its resources. Ensure that the financial and governance requirements of a complex range of funders are achieved. Operational Ensure that accurate and up to date financial records are kept and effective financial controls are maintained. Ensure that the charity s financial systems are robust, compliant and support current activities and future growth. Provide financial analysis and guidance to support day to day activities. Ensure that the annual statutory accounts are prepared in accordance with appropriate legislation and liaise as required with external auditors and Audit Committee on all accounting matters. Co-ordinate the preparation of the charity s annual budget and ensure the alignment of annual operational plans, objective and targets to strategic aims. Develop and implement appropriate cash management policies. Prepare, monitor and manage the cash flow statement and oversee the preparation of monthly management account. Ensure that cost effective and adequate insurance arrangements are procured in accordance with the policies and decisions of the Board. Ensure that the payroll service is delivered as required. Provide leadership and direction, review and monitor the performance of al staff directly line managed and oversee the management of all staff indirectly line managed. Support the fundraising process including setting fundraising targets, contributing costs and ensuring the financial viability of fundraising applications, monitoring and reporting on expenditure, providing robust information to support claims and ensuring the timely and accurate drawdown of funds. Ensure that the controls underpinning the grant making process are robust and meet the needs of the grantees and the funder. Monitor the procurement of goods, services and equipment to ensure that the best value for money is obtained and that proper procedures are applied. Governance Attend meetings of the Board of Trustees, produce papers, reports and advise on all financial matters pertaining to the charity s finances. Work with the Deputy Chief Executive to support and report on an effective Assurance and
3 Good Governance programme/service. Service the Finance, Fundraising and Audit Sub-Committees and work with the Chief Executive and Deputy Chief Executive to ensure the smooth running of these committees. Ensure that all relevant regulatory requirements are adhered to and that statutory accounts follow the latest advice on accounting conventions and principles. Ensure that all contractual arrangements provide appropriate protection and best value for money for the charity. Ensure that the risks to the organisation are identified and appropriate controls in place to manage them. Support Service Management Manage the charity s facilities at Head Office and in London, including review of leases, rental terms, insurance and health & safety matters. Develop and manage the charity s IT services and ensure they are fit for purpose. Manage the outsourced HR function, ensuring that appropriate policies and procedures are developed and implement and that regulatory requirements are complied with. Oversee the financial aspects of the charity s compliance function for awarding funds to local delivery organisations
4 PERSON SPECIFICATION StreetGames Job Title: Finance Director Qualifications / Education / Training: 1. Qualified Accountant. Knowledge & Experience: Essential 1. Experience of financial accounting, reporting and management at a senior level. 2. Strong knowledge of legal, tax (including VAT) and other regulatory issues relating to charities and companies. 3. Experience of developing, delivering and monitoring financial strategy, including a minimum of 4- year budget planning cycles. 4. Experience in supporting grant funding including contributing to bids, monitoring and reporting. 5. Experience of the preparation of annual accounts and managing relationship with external auditors and Audit Committee. 6. Experience of managing a payroll function and knowledge of HMRC requirements for payroll. 7. Experience of managing Governance and HR functions. 8. Experience of leading, motivating and developing teams across the finance and support services functions. Desirable 9. Experience of managing IT and facilities functions. 10. Experience of managing compliance functions. 11. Experience of administering a grant programme. 12. Experience of finance in trading subsidiaries. 13. Experience of operating as a Company Secretary Skills and Abilities: Essential 1. Strategic and analytical thinker able to develop creative solutions to problems in a fast moving and growing environment. 2. Good project management skills with the ability to plan and manage multiple projects at once. 3. Ability to develop good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels of seniority to ensure best use of resources and opportunities. 4. Able to manage risk and assure financial viability without suppressing entrepreneurial flair. 5. Able to understand and respond flexibly to the wider strategic priorities of the organisation. 6. Able to manage teams and individuals including setting work programmes and monitoring and managing performance. 7. The ability to deal appropriately with a range of complex challenges and a variety of personnel, organisational and external partner issues, including conflict resolution. 8. Strong verbal and written communication skills. 9. Excellent organisational skills with ability to be flexible as required. 10. Excellent IT skills in Microsoft Office, SAGE accounts, SAGE payroll and SAGE accounts production. 11. Ability to prioritise, manage a heavy workload and meet deadlines.

Work Related Personal Requirements The post holder should be able to travel and ideally have use of a vehicle for work purposes. Full/clean UK driving license (desirable) The post holder may be expected to work some anti-social hours and may occasionally be required to stay away from home (details to be negotiated with line manager).
