2 Dear Candidate, Thank you for your interest in becoming a part of the Healthy Heroes team. Healthy Heroes are a small team of children s physical education specialists. Our aim is simple: To give children the skills needed for a life time of physical activity. We support teachers in the delivery of curriculum PE and engage children out of school with our holiday camps and extra-curricular clubs. Aims Our aim is simple: To give children the skills needed for a life time of physical activity. How we deliver our aim: Our coaches deliver a specialised Fundamental Movement Skills Programme to early years and Key Stages 1 and 2 through curriculum based games, gymnastics and dance. We work closely with teachers to deliver a tailor made PE programme that is matched to the needs of their children. Our new PE POWER UP programme aims to up-skill teachers with their delivery of curriculum PE. Teachers observe and teach team methods with our PE specialists to increase their confidence and gain new skills. Our OFSTED registered holiday camps provide a safe and secure environment for children to engage in sport, play and arts and crafts activities. Thank you again for your interest in Healthy Heroes. 3 The process 1. Candidates will fill in and return the application form in this pack along with the equal opportunities form and any requested photocopies. 2. Candidates references will be checked prior to interview. 3. Successful candidates will be invited to 1:1 interview during the week beginning 29th May Successful candidates will be invited to a practical assessment where they will conduct a short session with a group of children. 5. Due to the short term nature of the contract the successful candidate from the practical session will be offered a one week probationary period before contract agreements. 6. The successful candidate will be required to attend 1 day familiarisation training along with 1 week s probation on the job training. 3

Safeguarding lies at the heart of every stage of the recruitment process from application form to interview. If at any point during the application process your application raises a concern we will not hesitate to follow our child protection procedures and seek external advice. Why an application form and not a CV? It is necessary for job applicants to submit written information about themselves when applying for a position, as this is the initial part of the selection process from which candidates are short-listed for interview. This, along with the interview itself, is one of the key tools that we can use to assess the coaches suitability for the position. Also, in terms of employing staff, Healthy Heroes need to verify certain details to ensure the person is appropriate for the job, for example, confirmation of appropriate qualifications and other information. An individual s written application can be the initial record of this. This information can be requested in the form of a Curriculum Vitae (CV), but we have to be aware that these may not contain all the information we require as it is up to the individual applicant to decide what to include. By producing an Application Form for every applicant to use, we can ensure we receive all relevant information, and the standardised format makes it easier to directly compare different applicants for shortlisting purposes. Therefore, we have decided that application forms are the most equitable means of collating this information. 4

5 Person Specification Senior Activity Worker Qualifications Essential Good basic education to GCSE level Grade C including literacy and mathematics, or the equivalent. Working towards a degree in a relevant area (Teacher Training, childcare, Play work) or Relevant Level 3 qualification (Childcare, education, play work) Level 2 NGB coaching award Safe Guarding training Desirable Degree in a relevant area Qualified Teacher Status or HLTA Qualification Paediatric First Aid Qualification Level 3 Sport Coaching or above Leading on safeguarding award Experience Delivering sports, arts and play activities to primary aged children. Delivering activities to large groups of children Experience of planning sports, arts and play activities Experience of a management/supervisory role in a similar area. Experience of managing a children s activity camp Experience of being a Lead or Deputy Lead safeguarding officer Knowledge and understanding Knowledge and understanding OFSTED requirements for the compulsory and voluntary parts of the OFSTED register. Knowledge of effective safeguarding practice Understanding of effective positive behaviour management strategies. Knowledge of effective Safe Guarding procedures Experience of OFSTED inspections Skills Excellent interpersonal skills both in working relationships with children and in forming effective professional relationships with a wide range of contacts including, parents and colleagues. 7 Senior Activity Worker Healthy Heroes LTD Halewood, Liverpool L26 70 per day Typical hours-8:45pm- 4:45pm Healthy Heroes LTD run a non-residential Holiday Camps for children aged 5-11 in fantastic location in Halewood, Liverpool We are looking for a temporary Senior Activity Worker to help run our OFSTED registered Summer Holiday Camp in Halewood, Liverpool We need your passion, patience, energy and amazing sense of humour to help children have a summer holiday they will remember forever! We are looking for a brilliant all-rounder who is willing to plan and deliver a range of activities across the whole of the summer holidays keeping it fresh and different each day. The senior activity worker will oversee the day to day running of the camp with the support of the camp director. Duties and Responsibilities: Attending 2 days of training at a time and place to be confirmed. Become the deputy lead safeguarding officer for Halewood team and attend relevant training if needed. Ensure all policies and procedures are adhered to on camp, and implementing new procedures to ensure the camp is a safe environment for staff and children. Ensure OFSTED requirements are met at all times on camp. Point of contact for parents of the children on camp. Includes feeding back any observations or issues. Lead and assist on delivering activities (Sports, arts and crafts. Play). Manage administrative duties for the camp (Sign in/out, registration). Supervision of children outside of activity times during Early drop off and late pick up times. Other ad-hoc duties as deemed necessary to the smooth running of the camp. Requirements: Ideally educated to, or studying for, a degree in a relevant subject or minimum level 3 qualifications in childcare, play work, Sport or education. Paediatric First Aid Qualification (or willingness to obtain before camp start date). Leading in Safe Guarding training (or willingness to obtain before camp start date). Excellent, positive behaviour management skills. Good working knowledge of OFSTED requirements and how to apply it to a camp setting. Some management/supervisory experience desirable. Experience in delivering Sport, Art and Play activities to children. Excellent communicator, with confident face to face customer service skills. Pro-active and conscientious, able to adapt to situations when required. Excellent organisational skills. Energetic team-player. 7

8 Someone looking for a fun, challenging, different but hugely rewarding job in the holidays, and looking to further their career in the childcare/coaching/teaching sector The successful candidate must be available to work at our Halewood Venue: 25th-29 th July 1 st -5 th August 8 th -12 th August 15 th -19 th August 22 nd -28 th August Interviews will take place on: 31 st May st June nd June rd June 2016 Shortlisting will take place on the 3 rd June. Candidates will be informed on 6 th June. The candidate will be required to have an informal 1:1 interview and if successful deliver a practical session to a group of primary aged children. Prior to interview two references will be requested. One which MUST relate to a position where you have worked with children. *Healthy Heroes employs safe recruitment practises which includes commitment to child protection, safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people. All staff will be expected to complete a DBS check (approximate cost 60) if they are not already on the DBS Update Service.
