1 Appshare in e-classes Enhance your e-classes Skills and Learn to Share! Use the Appshare tool of e-classes to show a document, coach users, or conduct virtual hands-on training with your participants. Participants do not require the applications (software) on their computer as they use it through their e-classes connection. In order to share applications with participants, you must first start or open the application or document on your own computer. Then click the Appshare button to launch application sharing. Appshare on a PC All of your open applications will be displayed. Select the one you want to share, click OK. TIP: Use the Lock-to-Talk microphone during Appshare to allow for hands-free talking. Appshare on a Mac When using a Mac, you only have the option to share your desktop. Insure the document or application you want to share is the top document, click Appshare, and select Yes on the pop up window: 1

2 View for Participants The default view for participants is shown below. The shared application is visible in the media window and all other e-classes features remain available and active. Appshare View for Instructors Two Options Appshare with Minimal Toolbar view is the default and allows maximum space for the shared application. The leader will not see the Audio Controls or People Panel but will instead use the horizontal tool bar. It will display as: 2

3 Appshare Toolbar After initiating Appshare, the following toolbar will appear for the leader of the session, or the person with Appshare control. From left to right, the icons are as follows: Lock-to-Talk microphone: click on this to initiate hands-free talking Pause: controls the record function Yes and No, Laugh, Applause and Clap indicators Text Chat: opens the text chat feature Feedback: opens the feedback screen Pause Appshare: returns screen to normal e-classes view, but leaves Appshare open Applications to Share: brings up a list of open applications Markup tools: click on this to access tools to markup the application view Participants View: switches to the view that participants are seeing Quit AppShare: closes Appshare and returns to e-classes normal view People Panel: shows the participant list Number of People in Session: indicates the number of participants in the current sessions. Appshare Tools Along with the tools discussed above, there are additional functions available to you while you are sharing an application. These are found in the upper right corner: Take a snapshot of an application and save it as a whiteboard screen in your agenda. Open/close applications without returning to the e-classes normal view. Control the colours used in Markup mode to enhance the additions to the application. 3

4 Appshare without Minimal Toolbar is a more traditional layout that may be more familiar. The leader is still able to see the Audio Controls and the People Panel: To Change Appshare to Without Minimal Toolbar PC From pull down menu: Tools > Options > View [tab] Unselect Use minimal toolbar for Appshare host Mac From pull down menu, Centra > Preferences > View tab Unselect Use minimal toolbar for Appshare host 4

5 Other Considerations Using Audio During Appshare, you need to use the Lock-to-Talk microphone in order for participants to hear you speak. Sharing Multiple Applications If you are sharing an application and then decide to open another, a window will pop up and ask if you want to share that application with your participants. If you select yes, your new application will be appear in the Participants view. Another option to avoid keeping track of pop-up windows is to choose to share <Desktop> instead of a specific application. Granting Appshare Control When you right-click on a participant s name and choose Give Appshare Control, that participant will have the required privileges to work within the application that you are sharing. A green arrow overtop of the microphone beside the participant s name indicates that they have Appshare control. The leader can quickly take back control by moving their mouse. Or, right click over the participant name again and this time choose Clear Appshare Control. 5

6 Ask a Participant to Share Application Advise the participant to lock on their microphone and open their application or document they wish to share. Right click over the participant s name in the People Panel and from the pop up menu select Ask to Share Application. The leader will see a window Please Wait. A PC participant can choose which open application to share, a Mac participant chooses Yes to share their desktop. Stop Application Sharing Click on a new Agenda item, choose another tool, or select Quit Appshare from the yellow top right menu to stop the application share. TIPS for Application Sharing Be sure that you have the minimum requirements for your application sharing. Close all non-essential applications. Large applications will take longer to reach participants. Avoid unnecessary mouse movements. Do not share applications or websites that use a lot of animation. Use Lock-to-Talk microphone when speaking during an application share. 6
