A Year in Review Friends of the IUP Greek Community, The academic year for the Greek community at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) was one of growth and learning. This community has had exceptional leaders, both as chapter leaders and council officers, who have facilitated this development. These leaders are interested in learning more and improving their chapters, councils, and community. Some important highlights from the year are the addition of four chapters to this community: Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Kappa Delta Rho Fraternity, Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity, and Theta Chi Fraternity. These additions bring our community to 32 chapters. Each council has had continued growth within and the IUP Greek community is over 1000 students strong. Chapters welcomed 197 new members in the fall 2015 semester and 278 new members in the spring 2016 semester. The members of the Greek community are engaged inside and outside of the classroom. They are excelling in their academics - the fall semester had 9 organizations have a chapter GPA above a 3.0 and the spring semester had 10 chapters above a 3.0 chapter GPA. IUP Greeks are involved in other organizations and activities outside their chapters and serve the local Indiana community. The Greek community had over 500 students attend each of our bi-annual Greek clean ups in October 2015 and March As you read through this report, I hope that you will celebrate in the successes as well as the challenges that were presented over the past year. Although there is room for improvement within this community, there is much to proud of as well. Fraternally, Betsy Sarneso Assistant Director, Center for Student Life, Greek Life & Student Engagement 2

Recruitment Deferred Recruitment Successful years of implementation of 11 Panhellenic Association (PHA) chapters are experiencing great success with the deferred recruitment process. PHA's total increased this spring to allow for modest growth. of the Interfraternity Council's (IFC's) 11 chapters need to better embrace the deferred recruitment process. Those that have embraced the process, understand and are reaping the benefits of deferred recruitment. New Member Participation * Includes Kappa Sigma Fraternity colonization with 54 new members ** Includes Phi Delta Theta Fraternity colonization with 54 new members *** Includes Phi Mu Delta Fraternity colonization with 27 new members **** Includes Theta Chi Fraternity colonization with 14 new members ***** Includes Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity colonization with 35 new members ****** Includes Kappa Delta Rho Fraternity colonization with 15 new members New Member Grade Point Averages 5
Greek Chapter Assessment Tool (GCAT) During the academic year, the Greek Life staff implemented the Greek Chapter Assessment Tool (GCAT) with IUP's 32 social Greek chapters. Chapters submit documentation and evidence in the areas of scholarship, chapter management and administrative tasks, member development, Greek relations, chapter standards and member accountability, and citizenship. There were fall and spring submission deadlines set for chapters to meet and the annual Greek Awards are based off this reporting. In order to qualify for awards and retain University Recognition, chapters must submit a GCAT. *Red: Chapters that completed a GCAT on time *Black: Chapters that did not complete a GCAT *In many cases, lack of reporting still causes chapters to fail to meet the minimum expectations. 6

Governing Council Updates Interfraternity Council The Interfraternity Council (IFC) executive board focused on accountability in the academic year. They established stronger recruitment guidelines and held chapters accountable for violations. Additionally, the IFC organized the No More Campaign to raise awareness and begin conversations with fellow IUP students about ending domestic violence and sexual assault. The IFC chapters tabled throughout campus and asked students to pledge "no more" to sexual assault and domestic violence. IFC hosted Movember events throughout the month of November to raise money for men's health. Movember kicked off with a shave-off, had a Super Smash Brothers tournament, spicy wing eating contest, a cornhole tournament, and 'packed the KCAC' to support the IUP men and women's basketball team by attending a game and selling mustache/movember merchandise. Finally, the IFC welcomed two rechartered chapters to the council, Phi Sigma Kappa and Theta Chi in April 2016, and will assist Kappa Delta Rho with rechartering in the fall. Multicultural Greek Council The academic year was a year of creation for the Multicultural Greek Council (MGC). The four person executive team focused on adopting council bylaws and convening regular MGC meetings, all while managing very busy academic lives. The MGC community consists of three chapters, Chi Upsilon Sigma Latin Sorority, Inc., Lambda Sigma Upsilon Latino Fraternity, Inc. and Mu Sigma Upsilon Sorority, Inc. This spring, Lambda Sigma Upsilon Fraternity, Inc. welcomed 2 new members and Mu Sigma Upsilon Sorority, Inc. welcomed 3 new members into the community. All chapters actively participated in Greek community and campus activities/events. 8
National Pan-Hellenic Council The National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) saw the academic year as one of growth and development. The council welcomed 9 new members; 5 new members in Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., 1 new member in Iota Phi Theta, Fraternity, Inc., and 3 new members in Alpha Phi Alpha, Fraternity, Inc. In addition to these new members, the NPHC welcomed the return of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., with 10 new members. The NPHC executive board worked to plan and execute a successful Greek Week and provide campus programs, such as Meet the Greeks, Greek Week, and the NPHC Yard Show. The 2016 NPHC Greek Week was held April 11th - 16th and the council hosted service events, Greek Olympics, a Pool Party, Turn Back the Clocks, a cook out, and closed with the Step N Stroll in the Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex (KCAC). Panhellenic Association The Panhellenic Association experienced growth throughout the academic year. This was the second year implementing the fully structured recruitment model and Panellenic welcomed 100 new members to the community in the spring, with total raising from 50 to 53. In addition to the structured recruitment, the Panhellenic Recruitment team organized various recruitment events for potential new members to meet the sorority women, such as Holiday Preview, Sundaes with the Sororities, and Sweet Life of Greek Life. Philanthropy was also an achievement this year. The Panhellenic Association executive board organized various philanthropic events for the community, in addition to the numerous events hosted by individual chapters. Panhellenic hosted a pumpkin carving event, which raised $300 for Circle of Sisterhood, and the annual Rock the Grove event raised $900 for the Alice Paul House. In total, the Panhellenic community raised over $41, for local and national philanthropies in the academic year. 9
Greek Life Highlights Northeast Greek Leadership Association Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Greek 101 New Member Education Series The Northeast Greek Leadership Association Conference was held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on February 25-27, The conference offered a host of leadership, interpersonal relationship, and group management programs. Not only did the students gain valuable learning opportunities, but they interacted with approximately 1000 delegates from other institutions in the Northeast. In addition, the 10 IUP students that attended were able to get to know each other as new council officers. 4 Interfraternity Council officers, 2 NPHC members, and 4 Panhellenic Association officers attended the conference with the Greek life staff. Greek 101 was held on October 18, 2015 & March 20, The new members attended various educational sessions about alcohol management, bystander intervention, leadership styles, Greek image, the Greek governing councils, and time management. The sessions were led by council leaders, graduate students, and/or professionals. *Survey data collected from participants electronically after the event. Family Dinner Greek Leaders Roundtable Discussions Family dinners were a new idea developed by the Greek life staff to allow the new council officers to get to know one another and discuss important topics in an informal environment. The first family dinner focused on introductions, expectations, and council goal development. Another focused on concerns within the community and how, as council leaders, they can benefit the community and achieve their goals. 10
