A congregation of13 dogs and their human friends gathered to praise God for His mighty acts in creation and especially for all the animals that enrich our existence. We gathered in honor of St. Francis of Assisi, a monk famous for his love for all creatures. We prayed, sang praises, read Scripture, and asked God's blessing the animals present and all their caretakers. Thanks to everyone who came out...and look for another Blessing of the Animals service next October!

3 Family/Adult Ministries News Thanks to everyone who went on the seniors trip including Cindy & Drew. Thanks to Harry for being so helpful and to Drew for driving the van. We had a great time and hope to see more people join us on future trips. We are planning another trip to Tanglewood Festival of Lights in Dec. More information to come. Trinity Quartet will be here on Sunday evening, November 14, at 5:30 p.m. We will have finger foods afterwards. Invite your friends and family and let s see if we can pack the church. Everyone is also asked to bring a canned good for CUOC that night. Our Luncheon meetings will start back up in March. Keep our church, pastor and each other in your prayers. Invite someone new to come to church with you every Sunday! 4 Charge Conference 2010 Pastor s Report West Bend United Methodist Church I give thanks to my God always for you because of the grace of God that has been given you in Christ Jesus. -1 Corinthians 1:4 This was another year of healing and faithful ministry at West Bend UMC. The energy and attitude of the congregation has shown a marked improvement over the last year, but there are still wounds to be mended. Our challenge, like that of many churches, is to honor our past while stepping forward with the Holy Spirit into the future. We have much prayer, discussion, and discernment to do on the horizon. Nevertheless, God s life-giving presence is palpable and we are seeing signs of new life. To help us meet our Power of 3 goals, the Missions Committee voted to make West Bend an Apostles Build Church through Habitat for Humanity. We covenanted with other churches in and around Asheboro to build a home for a family in need. This was accomplished through monthly work teams and providing food. This same missional spirit showed itself more recently, as a shortage at CUOC moved the congregation to a major response of food donations that were sorely needed. Our hope is that God continues to find us faithful in responding to the needs of His people. Worship has been revitalized. We have opened up opportunities for lay people to be involved in worship, through serving as lectors, sharing announcements, serving Communion, and through the ministry of music. This has helped to make our Sunday worship more truly a work of the people, an offering of the community to God. New worship opportunities have also been well received, such as healing services, Camp Meeting Sunday, and the Blessing of the Animals service. Such changes in worship, done with the help of a newly active Worship Committee, have been well received and are bearing fruit. God continues to meet us through the power of small group ministries such as UMM and UMW, Sunday School, and Bible Study. Our choir grew by leaps and bounds this year. We have entered into our second year of P3 ( Power of 3 ) youth program, a collaboration between West Bend, New Union, and New Hope UMC. Our highlight this year was a mission trip through the Hinton Center this summer. Our young adult group continues to provide fellowship, study, and service opportunities for 20 and 30-somethings. Many of them were involved in our first-ever softball team, through which we experienced the joy of camaraderie (and the agony of defeat). The saints called to be West Bend United Methodist Church have prayerfully navigated through our 101 st year of ministry together, and, with God s help, we shall continue to travel faithfully for years to come. May God lead us, direct us, and aid us in all that we do. Grace and Peace, Drew
