3 PALMARES GOLF VILLAS I 3d model views Located in the vicinity of the historic city of Lagos, framed between views of the bay and the distant Monchique hills, Palmares is one of the most stunning golf courses of the Algarve. The white sands and dunes of Meia Praia provide a unique backdrop for this exceptional context dominated by the presence of the dense and large Stone Pines (Pinus pinea) and the refreshing shade of their canopies. The house was devised as a critical reinterpretation of the precepts of the 1970s experimental organic architecture, by evoking some of its characteristic spatial elements and compositional strategies. The latter remained to a large extent as an oddity on the margins of modernity, wherein the likes of Jacques Couëlle and Antti Lovag studied the applications to human habitat of natural phenomena and architectural structure of plants and organic bodies, breaking with the Modern Movement plebiscite on the right angle, into a nature-inspired organic and sculptural form that suggested itself as a home-landscape. The 2-storey and 3-suites flat-roofed villa is devised as a serpentining maze of walls that generates a series of exterior patios, terraces and balconies aimed at fostering the relationship between indoors and outdoors. Inside, the curved angles and sinuous surfaces are reconfigured by the programme into more regular spaceforms, able to accommodate a relatively herirachical sequence of bedroom suites and living-, dining areas.

The house was devised as a critical reinterpretation of the precepts of the 1970s experimental organic architecture, by evoking some of its characteristic spatial elements and compositional strategies. The large two-storey flat-roofed villa is partially imbedded in the terrain, so that the arrival entry is made from the upper floor followed by a descent to the common areas. This in turn, is conceived as a promenade architecturale wherein the terraces, the patios and the large mezzanine, all coalesce to create a truly gratifying experience of inhabitation. The spatial sequences in this 4-suites villa are formal and hierarchical, with a clear differentiation between suites, living-, dining- and services areas. Following the notion that the predominantly touristic use of a house in a resort fosters a truly intrinsic relationship between indoors and outdoors, the villa has a series of permeable entrances and accesses to terraces through outer stairways endorsing this connection.
