4 Since starting TOMS in 2006, Blake has been inspired to speak with countless business leaders, high school and college students, faith-based communities and TOMS supporters all around the world. What Blake realized from all of these talks is that the lessons of TOMS can be applied to people from all walks of life whether your goal is to start a non-profit organization, your own business, or just make a big change in your life. Blake wrote Start Something That Matters for everyone, like himself, who strives for more than just financial success. The book challenges readers to look at their business and life from a different perspective: It argues that having a story may be the most important part of your new venture, that fear may be useful, that having vast resources is not as critical as you might think, that simplicity is a goal worth striving for, that trust is an invaluable trait you bring to your company, and finally, that giving may be the best investment you will ever make. Seeing these accomplished social entrepreneurs will show audiences how to get going on their own ideas for a meaningful future. After the film, participants are encouraged to discuss how to apply lessons learned in their own lives. T-Shirt Stencil INSTRUCTIONS: Paint-on Option: Step 1: Print the stencils on thick paper or cardstock. Step 2: (Optional) Scale it larger or smaller in a copy machine. Step 3: Cut out black areas with a straight edge knife. Step 4: Use fabric paint or spray paint to stencil on shirts. Design your shirt any way you like. Iron-On Option: Step 1: Use a copy machine to enlarge stencils to any size you prefer. Step 2: Purchase transfer paper. * Be sure to check the type of printer you have to know which transfer paper to get. 10 Choosing a Location... Where can you host your party? Think about spaces in your community that you think could spark creativity and passion. Try to find somewhere with a good amount of space and the ability to show the film. Local bookstore Student center Community centers Lawn or green space Public gymnasium Art gallery Local skate park Dance studio Sports field Coffee shops Theatre Outdoor park Inviting Featured Guests Ask some local leaders and other clubs to join. Invite some key influencers and businesses to get involved by sharing their perspective at your party. This can help make for a more informed, compelling conversation.
