8 Long Beach Sea Base Aquatics Center B.S.A. Sea Base Rules and Guidelines for Youth Conduct 1. Safety is the foundation of our program. We will provide U.S. Coast Guard approved lifejackets, which all scouts will be required to wear while on the water and docks. In addition, all scouts must wear sturdy close-toed shoes. Tennis shoes and water socks work well. Flip-flops or teva-style sandals are not allowed. Shirt and shoes must be worn at all times, no suggestive sayings on clothing. In addition, we strongly recommend that scouts bring a dry change of clothes, a towel, water bottle, hat/ visor, waterproof sunscreen with SPF 15 or higher and lip balm with sunscreen every day. 2. Scouts are not allowed on the docks or in any boat without a Counselor or the permission of the Counselor. Also, scouts are not allowed on the docks or in any boat without wearing a properly fitted lifejacket. 3. All scouts are required to observe and respect the buddy tag system, use your buddy tag at all times. 4. Stay off of the rocks anywhere at the Sea Base or next to the beach. These rocks are sharp and unforgiving! 5. Stay out of the Girl Scouts area or the Ocean Adventure Day Camp area, we are allowed to share these areas with permission only. 6. Each scout must be able to complete a BSA swim test on the first day of camp. The swim test includes 75 yards of the following strokes: sidestroke, breaststroke, trudgen or crawl; then another 25 yards of an easy backstroke. After completing the swim, scouts must demonstrate an ability to float. This swim test is mandatory if you are in the aquatics program, and any scout unable to complete the requirements will be excluded from the rest of the aquatic programs. There will be no exceptions. 7. Scouts may not leave the property without a parent/ guardian, or a signed release from their parent/ guardian, nor are they allowed to remain unattended on our property. All scouts not picked up by 5:30 p.m. will be charged $1.00 per minute; this is a childcare fee necessitated by our having to keep our staff here overtime. 8. It is the intent of the Sea Base that all those involved will have an enjoyable and worthwhile summer. Our primary purpose is to provide quality instruction, and to do so discipline must be maintained. Any scouts who are unable to conduct themselves with Scouting Spirit, on and off the water, will be asked to leave the program at the discretion of the Camp Director. Scouts shall not engage in any boisterous or offensive behavior. Any scout who willfully or negligently defaces, injures, or destroys the property or equipment of the Sea Base or another person will be held liable for its full value and may be dismissed from the program. Scouts are not allowed to borrow or use the Sea Base s or another person s property without permission. 9. To protect the safety of everyone at the Sea Base: No riding bikes, skateboards, roller blades, or scooters on the Sea Base grounds. Bike Racks are available for campers who ride their bike to camp. No horse playing is allowed anywhere. No contact sports are allowed outside of certain Merit Badge Classes. Specifically this means no running, no water fights with hoses, and no pushing or throwing anyone in the water. 10. Please bring a sack lunch and beverage every day. You may use the vending machine if used properly. DO NOT BANG OR SHAKE THE MACHINE. We ask that you do not send anything larger than $10.00 bills with your scout. Our camp counselors strictly supervise the lunch hour. No scout is allowed to leave the Sea Base during lunch without being accompanied by his parent/ guardian. 11. We recommend that you label all of your scout s belongings with permanent ink. During camp, scout s belongings are kept in unlockable lockers. Respect the property of others. The Sea Base is not responsible for any misplaced, lost or stolen items. 12. Keep the Sea Base clean at all times. Do not leave trash on the ground. Put trash in the trashcans. Also, keep the bathrooms clean, do not splash water on the counters or the floors. 13. Smoking is prohibited at the Sea Base. 14. Participation in the Summer Day Camp Program allows use of the Sea Base facilities by your scout only, during their scheduled class time. We are unable to accommodate parents, siblings, or guest.
