3 VERY IMPORTANT DO NOT FORGET Information given today are valid and true today under Immigration Law and Regulation, but may not be true tomorrow. Use a personnal address (instead of professional). Make sure to often check your spam folder during the whole process. Always inform immigration services of your change of address. While you wait for permanent residency status to be granted to you, you must keep a valid and legal temporary status in Canada (if you are working in Canada until you get permanent residency status) 3

4 PERMANENT RESIDENCY STATUS Same rights as a Canadian citizen (excluding the right to vote and the passport) Valid status for each family member: - principal applicant - spouse - common-law (de facto spouse) - dependant children = 18 years old and less Unlimited validity, but must respect residency obligations (live in Canada 730 days non consecutive within the past 5 years). 4

9 SELECTION QUEBEC TWO SELECTION PROGRAMS FOR CANDIDATES IN QUEBEC 1. Candidates without a registered account can call to speak with a customer service agent who will provide the steps required to complete the registration. 10

11 QUEBEC EXPERIENCE PROGRAM (PEQ) FAST-TRACK Conditions (based only on principal applicant) Temporary worker status - excluding shareholders of the company that employs them - principal applicant = worker who holds the «employer-specific» work permit (accompanying spouse with an «open» work permit cannot be principal applicant) 12 months of full-time (30 hours/week) work experience in Quebec in a technical, professional, or management position during the 24 months preceding the submission of the application Hold such a position at time of submission High intermediate knowledge of French (oral comprehension and expression) 11

12 ADMISSION BY CANADA 1. SECURITY Police certificates : These must be original. In general, you and all the people in your family who are 18 or older need to get a police certificate. You must get one from each country or territory where you have lived for six or more months in a row since the age of 18. (For example, if you lived in a country for eight months but left on a two-week vacation, that counts as living there for eight months.) - For the country you currently live in (except Canada), the police certificate must be issued no more than six months before you apply. - For countries where you have lived for six months or more, the police certificate must be issued after the last time you lived in that country. If your certificate is in a language other than English or French, send it when you apply, along with the original copy of a translation done by a certified transator. Translation necessary if not in English or French Methods to get police certificates, and delays/fees varies from a country to another. If you have been charged or convicted of a criminal act, it may have a consequence on your permanent residency process. 12

HEALTH Medical examination for each family member Not covered by public heath system (RAMQ) Designated practitionners (Panel Physician in private practice) No medical result will be given to you (only medical receipt) Health concern? There is no list of diseases that could cause rejection. Case by case. 3. FALSE DECLARATION (OR OMISSIONS) It is a serious crime to lie, or to send false information or documents when you deal with Citizenship and Immigration Canada. 13

14 FINAL STEPS 1. Sending passeport (or copy of all pages of passport) 2. Receiving «Confirmation of Permanent Residency» (CPR) by regular mail. 3. Validation of permanent residency status (3 methods) * Terrestrial border (St-Bernard-de-Lacolle) * Aiport border (back from abroad) * By appointment at CIC (1010 St-Antoine West) 4. Permanent residency card mailed directly to your home address (Travel document necessary, if applicable) 14

17 CITIZENSHIP Citizenship applicants need to be physically present in Canada for a total of 4 out of their last 6 years. In addition, they need to be physically present in Canada for 183 days per year for at least four of those six years. 18 SERVICE FOR SPECIALIZED FOREIGN WORKERS SPOUSES 2016 This free service helps spouses of SFWs to enter the job market, grow professionally and build a network of contacts. The service provides counselling, orientation, experience sharing and top-level networking. Each cycle consists of four 1.5-hour sessions held every 2 weeks. - May 26 - September 15 - November 10 NEW : We are introducing an additional cycle since January The new Peer-to-peer coaching and support program is available to all former participants.
