EXHIBITOR INFORMATION SPECIAL ATTENTION is called to the Hall Exhibitors Handbook printed in the beginning of the Prize List. Please make arrangements with one of the committee members if you cannot retrieve your exhibits or if you wish to have your exhibits donated to the Food Bank. ENTRY FEE: 75 cents per class. Minimum fee of $1.50 if only one class entered plus Exhibitor Ticket unless current IPE membership held. PRIZE MONEY: 1 st : $5.00, 2 nd : $3.00, 3 rd : $2.00 unless otherwise stated. RULES Any protest should be directed to the Committee chairperson. All exhibits to be grown by Exhibitor in Anyone trying to deceive the committee with regard to ownership of exhibit, or who shall purchase or borrow them and exhibit them as his or her own production, shall forfeit all claims as an exhibitor, including passes. All exhibits to be judged for table use. Substitutions are allowed, not to exceed original number of entries. It is the exhibitors responsibility to see that entries are in the proper classes and that names of varieties are labelled where called for. Placings will be jeopardized if not done correctly. (Committee will assist exhibitors where needed). Vegetables are judged on uniformity, condition, color, size and trueness to type. Entries should be reasonably free from blemishes caused by insects, diseases, dirt and mechanical damage. Root vegetables are washed for exhibition, but potatoes are not root vegetables. However they should be clean! Vegetables will be judged according to circular 50B. Exhibition Standards of Perfection for Vegetables. Copies may be obtained from the Ministry of Agriculture & Foods or from any committee member. Please have entries ready for exhibit on arrival. Do not use entry table for preparation. Only exhibitors will be allowed in entry area and ONLY for staging their exhibits. ALL PREP WORK TO BE DONE OUTSIDE THIS AREA. HOW TO PREPARE YOUR ENTRIES: Vegetables should be clean, but not scrubbed Beans: stems should be left intact. Beets: trim tops to 1 inch, leave root intact. Carrots: trim tops to 1/2 inch, leave roots intact. Cauliflower: stalk & larger leaves to be removed, remaining leaves should be trimmed off just below the level of the curd. Celery: rootstock trimmed to base of stalks, remove the small & broken outer stalks. Corn: remove husk lengthwise, trim shanks to 1/2 inch. Ornamental, Popping: shucks pulled back & tied for display Cucumbers: fresh & clean with the withered blossom absent. Cut Herbs: tie in a neat bunch of 5 sprigs/blades & display in jar/bottle & attach a clearly printed label naming the herbs. Garlic: cleaned, roots trimmed to 1/2 Leeks: shorten roots to 1/2 inch trim tops. Lettuce: remove roots & small or damaged outside leaves. Melons: Free of soil and blemishes Onions: trim roots and tops to 1/2 inch, remove only dirty outer scales, Do Not wash. Parsnips: tops trimmed to 1/2 inch, root tips may be shortened Peas: stems attached. Peppers: leave stems on. Potatoes: brush off dry soil, Do Not wash.

Squash: Summer: outer skin should not be hard or mature. Winter: stems are left intact. Swiss chard: remove roots. Tomatoes: stems removed. Cherry type: stems removed. ENTRY FEE: $1.50 PRIZE MONEY: 1 st $10.00, 2 nd $8.00, 3 rd $ COMMERCIAL VEGETABLE EXHIBIT Open to any Commercial grower or business, including Farmer s Market s, Organic Growers. All vegetables must be. A space of 4 x 4 will be allowed. Unlimited as to variety - quantity same as number as in class entries. Judged on display, qualities, eye appeal, arrangement & artistic design. ENTRY FEE: $4.50 PRIZE MONEY: 1 st $25, 2 nd $20, 3 rd $15, 4 th $ Preserved Vegetables, i.e. dried beans or peas, vegetables dried in a dehydrator or freeze dried. Not canned. Approx. 1 pint (jar or container) 88. Edible Arrangement, made with vegetables and herbs, fresh or dried, (do not have to be grown by exhibitor). Be creative, but please use Our 2016 theme 89. Vegetable Garden Photo Contest Submit one photo, minimum 5 x 7, maximum 8 x 10 No frames or matting. On back of photo you must have Exhibitors name and phone number Judged on originality, your garden and good photography. 90. Collection of Pickling Vegetables 3 different kinds, 3 of each, displayed in suitable container. 91. WHAT S NEW Showcase your new or unusual vegetable. Accompany exhibit with a brief educational description. JUNIOR SECTION Up to and including 16 years of age. Please put age on entry form. Prize Money for all Junior Classes: 1 st $6.00, 2 nd $4.00, 3 rd $3.00, 4 th $ Vegetables to consist of 4 kinds,, number same as class entries. Without carving, use glue or pins to attach ribbons, wigs, hats, etc. and use felt pens or markers to draw funny, scary, pretty or weird faces with ears, noses, eyes (whatever you like!) NOTE: For the animal kritters classes committee suggest that the creations will last for the fi ve days of the Fair, if the fruit and vegetables have not been cut. Use of glue, pins, clips etc. rather than cutting the produce will prevent the produce from spoiling. Entry to be accompanied by a photo of the garden 1st $20.00 Prize Money Sponsored by Rea Smith MINI SQUARE GARDENS To encourage youth to build, plant and exhibit their own mini-square garden (30 cm x 30 cm x 15 cm) as part of the Interior Provincial Exhibition. Container: Wood, Clay or Recycled Material. Soil: Commercial or Homemade source Plant(s):May be started from seed or by transplant (homegrown or commercial) Growing area Maximum 30cm x 30 cm x 15 cm Prize Money : 1 st $5.00, 2 nd $3.00, 3 rd $2.00 Pre-School/Kindergarten (Ages 3-5): parent may build and prepare soil for their child, and assist their child with planting and tending. The child will help prepare the entry for the IPE with adult assistance 118. Mini-Square Garden Vegetable or Herb From 119. Mini-Square Garden Vegetable or Herb From Plants Primary Grades 1 through 3 Parent may assist their child with the preparation, construction, assembly, planting and tending of the mini-square garden, with the onus on assisting and working with the child but not doing it completely for them Student will prepare the entry for the IPE, with adult assistance/supervision 120. Mini-Square Garden Vegetable or Herb From Plants Optional/Bonus: student may keep and present a written, drawn, photographic or video log of their mini-square garden from start through to exhibition Intermediate Grades 4 through 7 The student must plan, prepare, construct, plant and tend their mini-garden, from start through exhibition, with minimal adult assistance. Adult may assist in materials preparation Student will prepare the entry for the IPE, with adult supervision Mini-Square Garden Vegetable or Herb From 123. Mini-Square Garden Vegetable or Herb From Plants Optional/Bonus: student may keep and present a written, drawn, photographic or video log of their mini-square garden from start through to exhibition. Middle/Secondary School Grade 8 through 12 The student must plan, prepare, construct, plant and tend their min-square garden, from start through to exhibition, with no adult assistance. The student will prepare the entry for the IPE, with no adult involvement other than parent supervision Mini-Square Garden Vegetable or Herb From 125. Mini-Square Garden Vegetable or Herb From plants Optional/Bonus: student may keep and present a written, drawn, photographic or video log of their mini-square garden from start through to exhibition Heritage Varieties- A selection of 3 varieties of heritage vegetables. Group to consist of 2 examples of each variety chosen from classes 1-82 excluding squash As in other entries, the vegetables must be labelled. Size of display to be limited to 30 x 30cm
