1 County of Santa Clara Emergency Medical Services System Emergency Medical Services Agency 976 Lenzen Avenue, Suite 1200 San Jose, CA voice fax EMS Support/Logistics Coordinator (Classification: Warehouse Materials Handler Extra Help) First Recruitment Scheduled to Close on February 15, 2013 Salary Hourly Equivalent: Estimated Hours Per-Week: $ $21.33 Hourly 20 hours* The EMS Support/Logistics Coordinator is a key position in ensuring that emergency medical services responders have the equipment and supplies necessary to effectively and efficiently support the needs of the Santa Clara County Emergency Medical Services System. The Santa Clara County 911 Emergency Medical Services System responds to over 107,000 calls for service each year, covers over 1,300 square miles, and serves a population of over 2.2 million people. Further information about the Santa Clara County EMS System may be found at This EMS Support/Logistics Coordinator is a grant-funded extra-help position that will expire upon use of allocated funds and/or project completion. Current available funding is expected to last through *The selected individual(s) will be hired as a County employee restricted to work no more than 1,040 hours each fiscal year (July June). At times the Coordinator will work up to 40 hours a week, but will average 20 hours per week throughout the duration of the assignment. One position is available for hire with a second opening in July The EMS Support/Logistics Coordinator will work a standard schedule which may include some weekend and after hours work with advanced notice. Work will occur in the office setting, supply facilities, in the outdoors and/or may require travel to various facilities housing supplies and equipment. Extra-help appointments are not regular appointments, need not be made from eligible lists and carry none of the rights or benefits of regular appointments. This means that the selected individual(s) will not receive any benefits such as medical, dental, vision insurance; retirement, or will the time served be counted in seniority should the individual attain a regular appointment in the future. A uniform and safety supplies will be provided as is Workers Compensation coverage. There is no opportunity for overtime and/or paid time off (holidays, sick, vacation). Reporting to an EMS Specialist, the EMS Support/Logistics Coordinator is responsible for the completion of the duties and tasks as identified below. Duties and Areas of Responsibility Ensures EMS equipment and supplies are ready for deployment; Exercises equipment and supplies with appropriate partners and users; Maintains equipment and supply logs, maintenance records, and test journals, etc; A division of the Santa Clara County Public Health Department

2 Assures stakeholder understanding of how to access and use supplies and equipment; Insures adequate inventories and replacements are maintained; Provide equipment-specific orientation; Prepares orders for issuance or delivery to EMS System partners; Unpacks, stores, and rearranges supplies; May perform minimal custodial duties in keeping storage facilities and adjoining yard areas in a clean and orderly condition; May transport equipment and supplies to incident scenes, training events, simulations, exercises, and public relations activities; May operate forklifts and other materials handling equipment; May operate County vehicles; Performs related work as required; Qualifications: The ideal candidate has a clean driving record and ability to successfully pass a criminal background check; is able to lift and move equipment and supplies that may weigh in excess of fifty-pounds; is physically fit, and has experience with basic lifting and moving practices including safely moving moderately heavy or bulky supplies; has the ability follow oral and simple written instructions; must maintain effective working relationships with others; and maintains a clean and professional appearance at all times. The ideal candidate is a hard worker, has a friendly demeanor, enjoys physically demanding work, and is interested in supporting public safety personnel. Knowledge of emergency medical services is highly beneficial, but is not required. An extra-help position will provide the individual with the ability to experience the nature of civil service work, working in a paramilitary organization, and gain insight as to potential future career opportunities. For others, this opportunity may provide the flexibility necessary to be a second job to a career-oriented emergency medical service provider such as dispatchers, emergency medical technicians, paramedics, and other allied health professionals.
