5 Communication Weekly Newsletters sent on Fridays Includes updates on curriculum activities coming that week, reminders, upcoming events/activities, etc. Occasional s throughout the week me ANYTIME you have questions/comments/concerns- I check my all day long- will respond within 24 if not much sooner
6 Absences Try best to avoid frequent absences- excessive absences interferes with child s learning Note required for each absence Note required for early dismissals/tardy attendance Vacations- form (online) due 2 weeks prior If you know ahead of time of an absences let me know
7 Arrival/Dismissal Students will arrive by bus or car by 8:15 Car rider arrival is from 8:55-9:15- students will not be permitted in the building until 8:55 Dismissal 3:40 for bus riders, car riders, Stepping Stones Car riders dismissed from cafeteria Change in dismissal requires note from parents/guardian
8 Lunch Lunch 11:30-12:02 & Recess 12:02-12:32 Students will be given a PIN to purchase lunch (PIN is their student ID number) PIN will be in their purple folder and they will be given a card to help them the first few weeks Help your child memorize their number
9 Classroom Expectations Students will help make the rules of their classroom Phone calls home after 1-2 warnings of breaking classroom/school rules Principal meeting if necessary Class colored behavior chart- move up for positive behavior/move down when student needs to make better choices Individual behavior plans if necessary Behavior plans can change as the year goes to meet the needs of the students!
10 ELA McGraw-Hill Wonders ELA Program- new for this school year Includes a variety of resources to meet the needs of all students Weekly spelling lists High-frequency words (sight words) Anthology for whole group reading Leveled books (Fountas & Pinnell leveled) included with Wonders to complement program Writing connected with Wonder program Continued review of Kindergarten competencies
11 Reading/Guided Reading/Daily 5 McGraw-Hill Wonders ELA program (1 st year): Wonders is a balanced literacy program that includes a wide variety of resources & assessments. We will begin with Smart Start which is a comprehensive review of previously taught concepts. There are a total of 6 units to cover this year. Spelling lists will begin with Unit 1. Individualized Instruction- Leveled Texts will be used based on your child s reading level. Students are flexibly grouped according to ability level, which is determined by various reading assessments, primarily Fountas & Pinnell. Books chosen for guided reading are from the Hance Book Room, which has sets of leveled books, which has both fiction & nonfiction titles. We also will be using the Wonder s program leveled books. Level I is the goal by the end of first grade
