2 The Hong Kong Polytechnic University The origin of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) can be traced back to 1937 with the founding of the first publicly-funded post-secondary technical institution in Hong Kong the Government Trade School. The School was renamed the Hong Kong Technical College in In August 1972, the Hong Kong Polytechnic was formally established, taking over the campus and staff of the Hong Kong Technical College. The Institution assumed full university status in November PolyU is a government-funded tertiary institution in Hong Kong with a total student headcount of about 32,000, including full-time and part-time students. School of Professional Education and Executive Development Officially formed by PolyU in 1999, the School of Professional Education and Executive Development (PolyU SPEED) has been actively developing and delivering a wide range of professionally-oriented programmes that are relevant to individual advancement and wider socio-economic needs. Most of the classes, studios and workshops will be delivered at the HKAS premises. Aims and Objectives The Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Applied and Media Arts provides a creative, experimental and interdisciplinary study of applied and media arts, developing students as creative practitioners with critical framework for analytical reflection of the practices in the culture and creative industries. Career Opportunities Graduates are expected to become reflective contributors in their respective fields, capable of pursuing careers as professional designers, corporate image creators and media artists. They will be able to capitalise on their all-round trainings in creativity and aesthetic sensibility, which are essential elements of success in a knowledge-based economy. Entry Requirements A recognised Associate Degree or a Higher Diploma or equivalent qualification in related disciplines. Applicants from unrelated disciplines but with demonstrated foundation knowledge in applied and media arts may also be considered. Those who do not possess the above-mentioned qualifications but have reached the age of 25 at commencement of study may apply as mature applicants. Mature applicants should possess relevant working experience in supervisory/managerial positions and have completed post-secondary studies in related fields.
