9 Audra Merino Ms. Merino is originally from Brandon, Manitoba, and has lived in Calgary for the past 9 years. She moved here to be exposed to the opportuniees that a larger city like Calgary has to offer. She loves to go on walking adventures around Calgary, especially with her dogs Bella and Leelu. She has a DELTA WEST ACADEMY face2face FACULTY PROFILE passion for the visual arts and craty aceviees such as crocheeng, beading and scrapbooking. Ms. Merino has joined Delta West Academy as an ECS teacher; having graduated from the Alberta College of Art and Design with her BFA in Drawing in 2010, and from the University of Calgary with her BEd in Elementary EducaEon in She has had experience teaching children of many backgrounds and educaeonal needs, and strives to make all students reach their poteneal. With her previous teaching experience she is excited about the ECS journey. Ms. Merino looks forward to ge[ng to know the students and families of the Delta West Academy community, as well as observing and nurturing the creaevity that all students hold. Debbie Waddell Debbie Waddell has just recently moved to Calgary from Winnipeg, Manitoba where she taught Grade 5-7 Math and Science for 13 years. She started off her teaching career in a Kindergarten/Grade one classroom and decided to go back to her passion teaching ECS. Debbie is married to her husband of 13 years Andrew. They live with their Husky X Balto and cat Nimiway. She loves to travel and recently was on a trip to New Zealand, Ireland, and Hawaii. Whenever they can fit travel into their schedule they do so. Debbie s favorite trip was to Easter Island learning about the culture and history. Coaching volleyball and basketball has been a passion for Debbie over the last 13 years. She loves to hike and enjoys a lihle bit of gaming on the side. You will most likely find her on a Sunday at her local Starbucks picking up a lahe and heading to the dog park. Debbie has helped produce the play Annie for her middle year students, coordinated talents shows, and helped with introducing ballets, Chinese Opera, puppet theatre, and Shakespeare in the classroom. She loves the creaevity that Performing Arts helps develop and enhance in students of all ages. When asked about her recent move and the changes in her life Debbie was very excited. She looks forward to being a part of the DWA family and is excited to get to know the staff, students, and parents. She smiles and reflects on how change can be scary but it allows for the opportunity to grow as a person. It opens the door to new experiences and ge[ng to know new people. What is life without a lihle adventure?
