3 on the site 3 Boral is pleased to provide you with information on our tipper fleet to assist your company to order the appropriate sized truck for delivery of quarry materials to your project. Vehicle dimensions and site access specifications, including turning circles and heights of tipping for different configurations, enables you to select the right vehicle for your requirements. Information is provided as a guide and has been collated by the Boral Logistics team. A safe tipping point is critical for everyone s safety. To reduce likelihood of incidents occurring on your site it is important to be aware of the risks when planning your next delivery. All Boral operators are instructed to complete a Take Five for Safe Tipping risk assessment for each delivery site. Please work with our drivers and assist them with these assessments if requested, and allow them time to adequately assess the tipping location. level ground Level ground is important for safe tipping. Tipper instability increases when the truck is unloading; as the body is raised, the vehicle s centre of gravity increases substantially and the risk of roll over increases. For this reason Boral tippers will not back-spread (reverse over tipped loads). 3

4 4 SAFE on the site DELIVERY HANDBOOK - QUARRY PRODUCTS Our drivers are instructed not to tip their load if the area is unsafe and there is no spotter present spotters Spotters are necessary when reversing in hazardous situations to safely guide the trucks to the tipping point. It is important to keep reversing to minimum on any site. Spotters are also mandatory where there are overhead power lines and where the site is congested or not easily navigated. Under no circumstances should any person or spotter be standing within the potential fall zone of a tipper whilst it is tipping. It is recommended to ensure an exclusion zone for people and plant around the vehicle of 1.5 times the maximum height of the vehicle or trailer when the vehicle is tipping, whichever is higher. This practice can result in one truck tipping over onto the vehicle beside it causing injury or death. Our drivers are instructed not to tip in these circumstances. 4

5 on the site 5 chain spreading Chain Spreading products greater than 40mm can cause the vehicle to become unstable as the material does not flow smoothly out of the body. 40 mm driving with raised bodies Driving with raised bodies can lead to trailers tipping over or hitting overhead hazards. Tipper bodies need to be lowered before moving about or exiting the site. Boral vehicles are fitted with Body Up alarms which alert the driver if they are driving whilst the hoist is still engaged. Build something great Check out our impressive product range online open trenches Open Trenches and excavations should be visually identifiable and barricaded and trucks need to operate a safe distance away from them to avoid potentially unstable trench edge which could collapse. The minimum distance requirements will vary depending on works and conditions. Further information is available through your local regulator. 5

There are strict requirements enforced by Government bodies and power authorities regarding qualified spotters and no-go zones. Vehicles can also arc to the power lines, even without contact. 7 tipping locations 7 overhanging objects Overhanging objects and obstructions can cause dangerous situations for high vehicles. Overhanging objects such as branches can restrict vision at entry/exit points and travel routes through the site. Overhead obstructions such as doorways can restrict tipping and cause damage to site and vehicle. traffic control Traffic control is required in areas where there is high volume of pedestrian and vehicle traffic. It is recommended to ensure an exclusion zone for people and plant around the vehicle of 1.5 times the maximum height of the vehicle or trailer when the vehicle is tipping, whichever is higher. 7

Trucks driving on loose or unstable surfaces can lose traction and slide. This could lead to serious injury to those on sites or cause property damage. We understand that site conditions change over time, they can even change from one delivery to the next as your works are completed.
