11 Penguin Swimming Parent Code Of Conduct Agreement Penguin Swimming was formed with the objective of helping young swimmers develop physical fitness, selfconfidence, self-discipline, proficiency in competitive swimming strokes, and good sportsmanship. The essential elements of character building and ethics in sports are embodied in the concept of sportsmanship and six core principles: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and good citizenship. The highest potential of sports is achieved when competition reflects these six pillars of character. The expectation of PS is that both swimmers and parents will exhibit the highest standards of sportsmanship at all times while participating in all swimming events. Parents have a key role in developing a positive team and family environment. In doing so, parents hereby agree to comply with and support the following rules that constitute the PS Code of Conduct. As a parent: I will demonstrate good sportsmanship by conducting myself in a manner that earns the respect of my child, other swimmers, parents, officials and the coaches at meets and practices. I will not coach or instruct the team or any swimmer at a practice or meets (from the stands or other areas) or interfere with coaches on the pool deck. I will ensure punctuality of my child at practices and at meets. I will praise my child for trying hard, and will never ridicule or yell at my child or other participant for making a mistake or losing a competition. I will maintain self-control at all times. I understand that my role is that of a parent, not a coach, official or swimmer. I understand that criticizing, name-calling, degrading personal comments, use of abusive language or gestures directed toward coaches, officials, parents, spectators and/or any participating swimmer will not be permitted or tolerated. I will support the swimmers, coaches, and other parents with positive communication and actions and not participate in idle gossip. I will abide by an official s decision and direct questions or concerns regarding such decisions to a member of our coaching staff. I will address officials via coaching staff only. I will share the burden among parents by volunteering to time or assume other volunteer positions at meets at which our children are swimmers. If I am not performing an official USA or PS function, I understand I will not be allowed on deck at any meet or practice. I will promise to uphold the image of the PS and to project an image that the team can be proud of. Should I conduct myself in such a way that brings discredit or discord to the PS, or USA Swimming, I voluntarily subject myself to disciplinary action. PS reserves the right to terminate any member with/without cause in the interest of the vision, mission and objectives of PS. By signing below, I hereby certify that I have read and agree to abide by the PS Code of Conduct. Date Parent Signature Swimmer(s) Name(s)

12 Penguin Swimming Swim Meet Contract The following conditions are part of your agreement to be a member of the Penguin Swim Club: It is the intent of the Penguin Swim Club to host three meets annually with one of the three meets being a championship meet. The Penguin Swim Club hosted meets are listed on the schedule. Please mark them on your calendar. These meets are fundraisers for the club to help cover the cost of operations throughout the year. They are an important part of our annual budget. All families are expected to work a minimum of three sessions over the course of the season in support of the meets hosted by Penguin Swim Club. In general, these meets fall in March, May and July. Please take note that you may not have a swimmer competing in the meet, but are still required to work these meets The meet sign-up forms will be posted on the Penguin website. They will go up one month to the day prior to the start of the upcoming meet. EACH FAMILY IS REQUIRED TO WORK A MINIMUM OF THREE SESSIONS IN TOTAL FOR THE SEASON IN SUPPORT OF THESE MEETS. The number of sessions available for each meet will be listed on the sign-up sheets posted on the bulletin board outside of the pool lobby and the web site. At each meet there will be a registration table for you to "sign in" when you arrive at the pool. This table is generally located in the lobby of the Natatorium. It is your responsibility to make sure that you have signed in properly. There will also be a head person at your station that should check you in. If you are not able to work the required sessions, it is YOUR responsibility to find someone to work for you or pay the fine. You will be assessed a $50.00 fine per session that is not worked. If you sign up to work a session and fail to show up to work that session, you will be assessed $ per session. We do not want your money; we need your help during the meets! Fines will need to be paid within 1 week after the incident or the board may take disciplinary action that could include suspension of the swimmer from practices and meets Anyone working the meet to satisfy a work session must be in 9th grade or older. US Swimming regulations do not allow non-swimmers on deck at the meets. Please plan for childcare for your non-swimmers. High School parents are not excluded from any of these expectations.
