Hunt for minibeasts in the woodland leaf litter and see how they have adapted to their habitat. Sort prey and predators and make a food web. Outdoors. Test your detection skills and knowledge of mammal adaptation in our team competition. Handle and examine a range of skulls, antlers, and horns. Investigate the technology used by minibeasts, birds and mammals to build their refuges, see a range of animal homes and find out why they build them. Learn through games how you inherited your human characteristics and find out which are dominant or recessive. Find out about evolution and how a long, slow process changed animals over time and shaped who we are today. 3 Life Cycles Bear Food Chains BESPOKE TOPIC WORKSHOPS discover some of the amazing things creatures can do and learn about life as a bat and a spider including their diet and hunting tactics. Explore plant and animal life cycles, including seed dispersal, using role play and artefacts. Depending on your requirements choose from: a fun games, role play and story based workshop to find out about life as a bear. Or an informative workshop about bear conservation and the story of our two rescue bears. Through role play and investigation of artefacts children will discover the essential elements of a food chain and how to recognise a prey or predator. Tell us what you d like us to do and we ll design it for you! Examples: evening tours for nocturnal animals, how animals use tunnels, how zoo keepers use numeracy every day, species specific topics (e.g. wolves in folklore, hedgehogs, badgers) etc etc. Just ask! In shorter sessions the crafts will be slightly simpler ideal for younger children or if you only want to make a quick craft. 4 Dinosaurs Crafts Art & Craft Discover dinos the fun way! Ideal for a fun day out or if you do not wish to focus on one topic. A closer look at predator and prey species, as well as climbers, swimmers and burrowers and their individual physical and behavioural adaptations. Animal homes both naturally occurring in our ancient woodland setting and within our enclosures, including badger sett, squirrel drey, otter holt, wolf den and ant nest. Why some animals are endangered and how we can help them. Find out how we look after our animals throughout the year; what they eat, where they sleep, how we keep them healthy and make their lives more interesting. Meet an animal of your choice (subject to births, seasonal behaviour etc), learn fun facts and ask questions. Please note: on health and safety grounds it is not possible for groups to touch or feed the animals. Outdoors only. Get close to one of our hand-reared owls as they are brought out of their enclosure to meet you. Learn how an owl finds its dinner in the dark, why they have no table manners and how to speak like an owl. Meet our herd of fallow or red deer and learn how they keep themselves safe in the wild, where they live and what they eat. Learn the story of our hand-reared wolves and find out what makes wolves such great hunters and what people in different times and cultures think of wolves. Have a special encounter with one of our hedgehogs and find out how they got their name, where they live and what they eat.
