1 CONSORTIUM COURSES INTRODUCTION Redborne students now have the opportunity to study vocational qualifications at either level 1 or level 2 through the Central Beds Consortium. Students will attend for one day a week in Years 10 and 11. They will be taught by teaching staff from the school or college. Transport will be provided. Consortium courses are equivalent to two option blocks. Students on the college course will be taught together for their core lessons in ICT, Personal Wellbeing, PE and RS on their days back in school. The school provides transport to college and students will need to arrive to school in time for onward transport to the college. The school maintains regular contact with college staff. Attendance, punctuality, progress and behaviour are all closely monitored. Parents receive termly reports from Bedford and Shuttleworth colleges. Samuel Whitbread Academy reports to parents twice yearly. Students will be expected to follow rules laid down by the school and the college and behave in a sensible manner at all times. These courses have tended to be very popular in recent years and the number of applications has often been greater than the number of places available. For level 1 courses, students may be selected on factors such as attendance at school and attitude to study as recorded through effort grades in year 9. Level 2 courses usually have an entry requirement of particular National Curriculum levels. Before making a decision, you will have a chance to attend the Open Evenings at Bridges Centre, Bedford College, or Shuttleworth College 1
