It is the largest nonprofit organization of its kind in the world and the global voice of the Medical Tourism profession. In all, MTA s outreach covers over 100 countries. Initially formed to serve the needs of international healthcare providers and medical tourism facilitators, MTA has evolved into an international membership association that represents a broad based constituency of healthcare and travel professionals across the globe with the goals of promoting transparency in the quality and pricing of healthcare services, education and communication. MTA is a diverse international organization dedicated to the life cycle of healthcare and travel projects from inception to delivery. From the review of benchmarked results to the development of improvement mechanisms developed through proven customer experience techniques and measured outcomes, MTA is the dedicated partner for new businesses and old seeking to establish a greater global presence in the healthcare, wellness and tourism industries. The training program is customized to the individualized needs of the hospital or clinic. The curriculum will teach communication protocols, cultural sensitivity, post-surgical aftercare protocols, operational infrastructure, corporate transparency, and much more. We will not only train your staff, but we can also provide a temporary on-site resource to help transition and execute the necessary changes. PROCESS * Submit the IPS evaluation form * Prepare for site visit and assessment * Certification is issued when assessment criteria are implemented * Register for Recertification every 2 years TRAINING The 1-3 day training engages the participants with role playing and practical exercises to stimulate discussions and provide a hands-on learning experience at your hotel or clinic. The ultimate goal is to fast track hospitals in the implementation of international patient services best practices and to prepare for the IPSC Certification. The program is only available as a live training. 5 CERTIFIED INTERNATIONAL PATIENT SPECIALIST (CIPS) WELLHOTEL TRAINING AND CERTIFICATION The Certified International Patient Specialist (CIPS) certification is only available for those participating in the live IPSC training. This program is designed for healthcare and hospitality professionals seeking the practical training and knowledge to effectively manage the international patient care process that is provided in conjunction with the International Patient Services and Certification Program (IPSC). These professionals include the International department staff, Hospital/Clinic administrators, Doctors, Marketing specialists, Nurses, and administrators. The Certified International Patient Specialist (CIPS) is a certification of expertise that is valid for 2 years. EDUCATION Over the past two years the Medical Tourism Association has worked closely with the international healthcare community and buyers of healthcare to develop a training curriculum and certification standards for the hospitality industry. Health and wellness seekers have unique needs and expectations that must be addressed in order to provide a high quality guest experience. Our program teaches how to cater to these guests and to interface with patients, medical providers and ground operators to ensure a safe experience for guests. PROCESS The WellHotel Training is an onsite training program designed for your hotel or resort s unique needs and competency level working with medical travel guests. Training sessions can be scheduled as a one-time event over a period of 1, 2, or 3 days. The program is only available as a live training. The Certified WellHotel Guest Manager (CWGM) is a person who has held a Certified WellHotel Guest Liaison for 3 years OR has 3 years of equivalent work experience in the Medical Tourism industry. The Medical Tourism Marketing Specialist (MTMS) is a person who has held a Medical Tourism Marketing Professional designation for 3 years OR has 3 years of equivalent work experience in the Medical Tourism industry. The designation requires 5 hours of Continuing Education courses per year. (You must complete 10 hrs. of CE credits by the end of year 2 to be eligible for recertification.) Our Continuing Medical Education Courses have been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and Policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint sponsorship of the University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine. Target Audience This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of primary care physicians, Travel Destination Surgeons and healthcare providers involved in medical tourism. Statement of Need/Program Overview Globalization of healthcare has opened opportunities for patients to travel for medical and surgical care domestically and internationally. Primary care physicians are vital to the continuity of care for these traveling patients. These courses provide physicians with formal training in perioperative care for traveling patients to avoid a break in patients care continuum. They address the needs associated with medical/surgical travel more specifically in terms of Pre travel pre-operative post-travel and post-operative physician medical education. Primary care physicians rarely participate in acute postoperative care since hospitalist and/or the surgical team typically delivers that healthcare service for those patients who have surgery are in their home community. These courses train or re-train physicians in acute postoperative patient care. Medical/surgical travel often means traveling internationally, which offers up unique medical situations in terms of disease risk, travel vaccinations, and travel risk which most private physicians need education regarding these new risks. Educational Objectives Upon completion of this activity, the participant will be better prepared to: Integrate pre-travel and pre-operative, post-travel and post-operative patient clinical pathways; Utilize appropriate diagnostic test, patient assessment and physical examination to diagnose and treat acute postoperative patient surgical complications; and Evaluate and examine medical and geopolitical risk associated with international patient medical/surgical risk. CME Courses can be completed online at at our annual World Medial Tourism Association Congress, or by participating in one of our CME approved webcasts.
