1 Live Streaming in enables you to push live RTMP streams through the Wowza Media Streaming Engine and Ensemble Video media players. The live stream will be available in browsers, ipads, iphones and most Android devices. 1. Encode a live RTMP stream using a software or hardware live video streaming encoder, using an appropriate bit rate and quality for Internet delivery, and send it to your Wowza Media Server, specifying: A Wowza Media streaming application, for example: rtmp://media.instiution.edu/live (from your /Wowza system administrator) Stream name, for example: event_750 (this is a name you specify, in this case an event encoded at 750 Kbps) 2. Add a new item in your Media Library, then in the Add/Edit wizard click on, then in the Add/Edit wizard click on the form and enter Wowza Live application and Stream Name in a single URL (be sure to check the Media is a Live Stream checkbox). For example, using the application and stream name from Step 1 above: 3. Set video dimensions and add custom preview and thumbnail images In the form in the Add/Edit wizard (optional). 4. Catalog and publish the live stream item just like you would a video- on- demand asset. In most cases our customers want to live stream an event like a guest speaker, training session, graduation, board meeting, or morning announcements. These tools send a live stream to a Wowza Media Server, which can then re- stream the content to many viewers. 1 With you can catalog and publish the live RTMP stream the same way you do with a video- on- demand item in your Media Library. You can publish to a Playlist or Portal, or you can embed the live stream as a standalone video player on a Web page. Here are the steps to get a live stream up and running in. 1. Create a live stream and stream to your Wowza Media Server You will have to have a video camera connected to a device that will send the live stream to Wowza Media Server. This is called encoding and you re the device you use is referred to as a live streaming encoder. You can use a laptop or desktop computer with an attached camera or built- in Webcam (for use with Wirecast or Open Broadcaster software), or you may decide to use a dedicated encoding appliance (e.g., Tricaster or ncast appliance). The Wowza Media Server will re- stream to your viewing audience, and care to deliver seamlessly to desktop computers, ipads and iphones, as well as Android smartphones and tablets. 1 Wowza Media Server can also re- stream live streams that use the RTP/RTSP protocol, for example with Axis security cameras. 3 Your encoder software will let you adjust video quality and bit rate. For general Internet delivery we recommend MP4 video with H.264 video and AAC audio at 500 to 700 Kbps for video and 64 to 96 Kbps for audio. You encoding tool of choice will have a form in the Interface where you specify the following: The Wowza Live application RTMP URL, which will be provided by your Wowza/Ensemble system administrator. This is where your encoder will send the live stream. For example: rtmp://media.insitution.org/live A stream name (use a simple name with no fancy characters or spaces). For example: event_750 (for a video stream encoded at 750 Kbps for video) E.g., In Open Broadaster you configure this in Broadcast Settings area. For more details see Live Streaming with Open Broadcaster at 2. Add the live stream URL to an item in your Media Library For this step you will enter the live stream application and stream name as a single URL in. From the example above: rtmp://media.institution.org/live/event_750 Add a new item in your Media Library, and choose Advanced mode from the Add/Edit wizard 3

4 Then click on Manually Enter Media, and then enter and Add the live streaming URL (be sure to check the Live streaming checkbox). 3. Set image Dimensions in the Manage Content form in the Add/Edit Wizard. 4

5 Switch to Images in the Type: dropdown, and upload preview/thumbnail images (optional). Now you can publish to playlists, embed the live video, or use a Widget to share with your viewers! 5
