Pythium oligandrum Clever Fungus Pythium oligandrum Clever Fungus Patented Technology Pythium oligandrum (Clever Fungus) is a microscopic fungal organism from the Chromista Stramenopila family which represents a cross between fungi and algae. Pythium was discovered in the 1930 s by American scientist Charles Dreschler, who found that Pythium is a specifi c predator that only attacks other fungi. In the 1960 s Pythium was isolated from a microorganism in the soil by Czech scientist Dr. Dasa Vesely as he was researching and testing the use of this microorganism in agriculture. At the end of the 1990 s, Biopreparaty, s.r.o. was formed and focuses on research and production of biological agents used in agriculture to protect plants against fungal diseases. In 2006, Bio Agens Research and Development BARD, s.r.o. was founded to research, develop and produce products containing Pythium for use in human and veterinary care, building maintenance and agricultural purposes. In 2010 the company owners, obtained a patent for the use of the Pythium oligandrum organism in their products exclusively. Pythium is a microbial predator only of fungal pathogens and prefers to live in a humid environment. In order to obtain nourishment the Pythium organism grows fi bres (hyphae) which entwine around the fungal pathogens and lyses with them, thus literally sucking out the nutrients it requires for survival. This is done by the hyphae releasing zoospores (fertilised single celled organisms) from the zoosporangium (zoospores develop here) and they actively seek food for themselves (fungi) and release enzymes. Once they have received the necessary nourishment the above process repeats continually until it has actively consumed all the fungal pathogens in the affected area. Once this is done the Pythium disappears from the human body completely as it is unable to live in the human body and thus allows for resettlement of normal micro fl ora within the body.

It has been found that the enzymes released by Pythium are what assist in healing ailments such as Psoriasis, Eczema and Tinea and also support skin regeneration. These enzymes create an environment which inhibits bacterial growth thus promoting healing i.e. non-healing wounds/ulcers. Wounds are covered by a biofi lm (consists of colonies of bacteria & other microorganisms such as yeasts, fungi & protozoa which secrete a protective coating) and at present in order to penetrate the biofi lm, disinfectants and antibiotics are used although they must be used in multiple doses and have a limited ability to penetrate the biofi lm. Pythium is able to penetrate and destroy the biofi lm. Research utilising lab tests, assessment & evaluation, practical testing on patients in various hospitals, clinics and dermatological practices under the supervision of leading Czech medical doctors, microbiologists and dermatologists has shown that Pythium has significant positive results. It has also been shown that no side effects have been recorded utilising Pythium even in immunocompromised people and children. BARD has various products on the market today formulated with the Pythium organism which are beneficial for use in Periodontitis, Onychomycosis (fungal nail infections), Vulvo-Vaginal Candidiasis, Non-healing wounds/ulcers, Foot Mycoses and assist in managing symptoms related to Psoriasis, Eczema and Atopic Dermatitis. Various strains of Pythium are utilised in the products as per the ailment being managed. Pythium oligandrum Clever Fungus

Foot Mycoses Foot Mycoses Fungal infections require a moist environment in which to survive and can also develop in macerated skin areas. The infection spreads by direct contact with contaminated services or objects. The symptoms are often apparent between the toes where the infection usually starts and then moves onto the heels and soles of the feet. Symptoms include sweating, itching, burning and redness. If left the infection may cause blistering, peeling, cracking of the skin, bleeding and foot odour. May also lead to fungal toenail infections if left untreated. BIODEUR Mycoparasitically (colonises other fungi by parasitising the host i.e. fungi) eliminates fungal pathogens on the skin and toenails of the feet. Reduces and eliminates symptoms of fungal infections, foot odour and sweating. Onychomycosis (Fungal Nail Infections) Applications: Foot bath or wrap dressings Note: After several applications the affected part of the nail may break off in some cases but this is normal as it allows the healthy nail to grow correctly from the nail bed. Contents: 1 x 1g or 3 x 1g ampoules Onychomycosis is one of the most common dermatological infections and its incidence is increasing. However it has been diffi cult to fi nd an appropriate treatment as treatment is often prescribed without determining the origin of the fungal infection. It has been found that systemic medications have the highest success rate in treating these infections but unfortunately have many side effects. Clever Fungus Pythie Biodeur Nail A biological product suitable for care of toenails prone to fungal infections. Application: Wrap dressing of the toenails Note: After several applications the affected part of the nail may break off in some cases but this is normal as it allows the healthy nail to grow correctly from the nail bed. Contents: 3 x 3g effervescent tablets

Preventative products Excessive sweating of the feet is not only unpleasant but can also lead to foot odour and fungal infections as it provides the ideal environment for fungi and bacteria to grow. Fungi can live in your shoes and socks if not washed and changed often enough thus repeated contamination can occur. Therefore to prevent re-infection Biodeur Pythie Prevent and Biodeur Pythie Prevent Foot Powder were developed. Clever Fungus Biodeur Pythie Prevent Foot Soak A biological product suitable for those prone to fungal infections, foot odour & sweating and prevention of these ailments. Application: Foot bath Contents: 3 x 3g effervescent tablets Foot Mycoses Foot Odour, Excessive Sweating & Fungal Infections Sweaty feet create the perfect environment for bacteria and fungi to grow and there are approximately 2 3 million sweat glands in the body, feet included. In hot weather they can secrete up to 11 litres of perspiration a day, but they also assist in regulating skin condition such as moisturising the skin as required. Sweat glands on the forehead, armpits and soles of the feet can activate themselves as required, thus the issue of sweaty feet and foot odour may arise when glands become overactive. Clever Fungus Biodeur Pythie Prevent Foot Powder Suitable for use in prevention of foot odour & sweating and for those prone to foot odour, sweating & fungal infections. Application: Foot powder Contents: 4g

Foot Mycoses Organic Organic product suitable for nail & skin care on the feet which are prone to foot odour, sweating & fungal infections. Clever fungus Pythie Bio Biodeur Organic product suitable for nail & skin care of the feet which are prone to foot odour, sweating & fungal infections. Applications: Foot bath or wrap dressings Contents: 3 x 5g Practical Research Studies The purpose of this study was to determine the impact Pythium has on the affects of Onychomycosis (fungal nail infections) when applied topically. A total of 170 patients were affected with toenail infections and 140 of these had their big toe toenail affected by fungal infections. Patients were randomised into 3 groups and samples were taken from each patient both prior to application and post application of Biodeur Nail. At 6 months post the treatment it was found that in 67% of cases the infection was cleared, 14% had signifi cant improvement and 19% had no signifi cant changes noted. It was also found that Pythium can be used on immunocompromised patients.

Psoriasis & Dermatitis Psoriasis& Dermatitis Psoriasis affects about 2% of the population, therefore in the Czech Republic alone, over 200,000 people suffer from the ailment. It can affect people of any age and has both physical and psychological affects. Psoriasis vulgaris is the most common form (vulgaris means common) of psoriasis and is a chronic, immune-mediated infl ammatory skin disease which manifests as elevations or plaques of the skin that do not contain pus. The plaques are red or pink in colour and are covered by white or silvery scales. They may be thick or thin, large or small. Plaques appear most often on the elbows and knees and on the scalp. Psoriasis is associated with systemic disorders, such as diabetes. 10 Paediatric Paediatric Eczema is a general term for many types of skin infl ammation (dermatitis). The most common form of eczema is atopic dermatitis (sometimes these two terms are used interchangeably). Doctors do not know the exact cause of eczema, but a defect of the skin that impairs its function as a barrier, possibly combined with an abnormal function of the immune system, are believed to be important factors. Some forms of eczema can be triggered by substances that come in contact with the skin, such as soaps, cosmetics, clothing, detergents, jewellery, or sweat. Environmental allergens (substances that cause allergic reactions) may also cause outbreaks of eczema. Changes in temperature or humidity, or even psychological stress, can lead to outbreaks of eczema in some people. Eczema most commonly causes dry, reddened skin that itches or burns, although the appearance of eczema varies from person to person and varies according to the specifi c type of eczema. Intense itching is generally the fi rst symptom in most people with eczema. Sometimes, eczema may lead to blisters and oozing lesions, but eczema can also result in dry and scaly skin. Repeated scratching may lead to thickened, crusty skin and infection. Pythie Baby Oil Bath Product suitable for use on delicate skin prone to eczema and dryness. Applications: When eczema and dry skin symptoms develop Contents: 100ml While any region of the body may be affected by eczema, in children and adults, eczema typically occurs on the face, neck, and the insides of the elbows, knees, and ankles. In infants, eczema typically occurs on the forehead, cheeks, forearms, legs, scalp and neck. Pythie Baby Ointment Product suitable for use on delicate skin which is sore and irritated Applications: When dry, sore and irritated skin symptoms develop. Contents: 50ml

Periodontitis The longer plaque and tartar are on teeth, the more harmful they become. The bacteria cause infl ammation of the gums that is called gingivitis. In gingivitis, the gums become red, swollen and can bleed easily. This form of gum disease does not include any loss of bone and tissue that hold teeth in place. When gingivitis is not treated, it can advance to periodontitis (infl ammation around the tooth). In periodontitis, gums pull away from the teeth and form spaces (pockets) that become infected. The body s immune system fi ghts the bacteria as the plaque spreads and grows below the gum line. Bacterial toxins and the body s natural response to infection start to break down the bone and connective tissue that hold teeth in place. If not treated, the bones, gums and tissue that support the teeth are destroyed. The teeth may eventually become loose and have to be removed. Risk factors include smoking, hormonal changes in girls/women, Diabetes & other illnesses, medications and genetic susceptibility. Periodontitis can cause secondary infections if not treated. Thus Pythie Bio Plus when used in conjunction with a good oral hygiene regime, greatly accelerates tissue regeneration and eliminates gingivitis and periodontitis. Periodontitis Clever Fungus Pythie Bio Plus Helps reduce and control the incidence of mouth ulcers/sores, infl ammation, gum pain and peridontal disease. The product also reduces fungal infections associated with the use of dentures. Application: Preventative mouth wash Contents: 5 x 3g effervescent tablets Bio plus Weakens the microbial and chemical factors which promote the growth of mouth ulcers/sores and reduces the growth of fungal/yeast pathogens in the mouth. Application: Mouth wash (when symptoms have developed) Contents: 5 x 1g sachets Practical Research Studies 34 patients in total were monitored whilst being treated with Pythium 51% showed no clinical symptoms after 7 days and in 8.8% of patients the infection returned.

Diabetics Diabetics The classical symptoms of untreated diabetes are fatigue, loss of weight, frequent urination, increased thirst and hunger. A number of skin rashes can occur in diabetes and are collectively known as diabetic dermatomes. Diabetic foot is also a complication of diabetes and causes severe and painful non-healing wounds. Pythie Diabetic Oil Bath with Hippophae Rhamnoides (Sea-Buckthorn) Product suitable for dry skin associated with diabetes and for prevention of those prone to fungal infections. Application: When fungal infections and dry skin develop Contents: 100ml Pythie Diabetic Ointment with Hippophae Rhamnoides (Sea-Buckthorn) Product suitable for dry skin associated with diabetes and for prevention of those prone to fungal infections. Application: When fungal infections and dry skin develop Contents: 50ml

Decubitus (Pressure Sores) & Venous Ulcers Decubitus ulcers are a chronic ulcer of the skin and underlying tissues caused by prolonged pressure on the body surface of bedridden patients. Venous leg ulcers are, by far, the most common form of ulcers affecting the lower extremities. Venous ulcers occur most commonly at the ankles and involve an open wound and can have a very significant impact on quality of life, with major disability and social impairment. Since this is a condition that often doesn t heal without treatment, it tends to be chronic and thus causes massive health care expenditures. Venous ulcers typically occur within areas of dark, reddish-brown skin that are hard and feel warm to the touch. The area may be very painful and may itch continuously. White scar tissue may also develop in the area as well. Venous ulcers are usually caused by varicose veins and chronic venous insuffi ciency, and may occur after the above conditions have existed for some time. Venous reflux (or valve failure) can lead to increased pooling of blood, causing venous hypertension (increased pressure in the veins of the lower leg), which leads to the pooling of blood. When these high pressure conditions exist, fl uid can leak out into the surrounding tissue and infl ammation occurs and normal transfer of nutrients and oxygen to the tissue is impaired. Over time, the diminished level of nutrients and oxygen and the inflammation created causes damage to the surrounding tissue, which can result in skin discoloration and tissue death. Decubitus, Venous Ulcers BIOMYCOSIN A biological product suitable for prevention of harmful microbial growth in Decubitus/Venous ulcers & for stimulating and promoting healing. Application: Wound dressing/fl ush Contents: 10g These ulcers are often a complication of diabetes due to impaired skin healing and impaired metabolic function. Diabetic neuropathy is the impact of diabetes on the nervous system, most commonly causing numbness, tingling and pain in the feet and also increasing the risk of skin damage due to altered sensation. Together with vascular disease in the legs, neuropathy contributes to the risk of diabetic foot ulcers that can be diffi cult to treat and often may require amputation.

Feminine Hygiene Vulvovaginal Candidiasis Candidal vulvovaginitis or vaginal thrush is an infection of the vagina s mucous membranes by Candida albicans. Up to 75% of women will have this infection at some point in their lives, and approximately 5% will have recurring episodes. It is the second most common cause of vaginal inflammation. The symptoms of vaginal thrush include vulval itching, soreness and irritation, pain or discomfort during urination and a vaginal discharge, which is usually odourless. This can be thin and watery, or thick and white, like cottage cheese. The risk of developing thrush is also increased in immunocompromised people. This is because the body s immune system, which usually fi ghts off infection, is unable to effectively control the spread of the Candida fungus. FEEL FRESH Product designed to alleviate symptoms associated with candidiasis itching, burning & discharge and assists to restore normal physiological microfl ora. Applications: Bath for mins over 3 days consecutively Contents: 5 x 2g bottles Practical Research Studies A total of 70 women were involved in the study between the average age of 48yrs to 57yrs and it was found the dominant pathogen in all women was Candida albicans (97% of all identifi ed organisms). Other fungal species were also identifi ed Candida glabrata and Candida lipolytica. Seven days post treatment with Feel Fresh almost all women were without clinical symptoms or symptoms had signifi cantly improved. Two women required Itraconazole prescriptions. Twenty one days post treatment it was found that 86% had cleared the infection and 13% still had clinical symptoms.

Veterinary Care Skin conditions of a fungal origin affect approximately 1/3 of domesticated animals. Dermatitis or skin ailments can be caused by allergic reactions to food, feathers, plants or pollens and can be of a mechanical or chemical nature as well as fungal or parasitic. Consequences of this are itching around the snout, extremities and coat. Animals cope with the symptoms by scratching excessively and licking the affected areas which in turn causes an infl ammatory response. A lowered immunity can also create favourable conditions not only for fungi but yeasts and bacteria thus leading to infections of the skin and coat. A new mycoparasitic product containing Pythium which produces enzymes has been found to signifi cantly improve and accelerate healing in affected and infl amed tissue. A study was done following the application of Pythium onto canines suffering from atopic eczema, fungal skin infections and non-healing wounds and results were very favourable and it was shown to accelerate and promote healing. It has also been shown to signifi cantly improve skin affected by the microorganism Microsporum canis in felines and horses suffering from hoof thrush and also turtles and guinea pigs with fungal infections. Veterinary Care ECOSIN Clever Fungus A biological ingredient added to water and utilised either as a water spray or in a water bath.
