3 Objective to establish an open, harmonized trans-european big data cloud based platform for road data. Road data encompass data such as traffic density, pavement conditions, road markings and road signs etc. The project is focusing on generating value through reuse of public and private road infrastructure information.
4 Background Public and private road authorities in Europe monitor road data. Road data encompass data such as traffic density, pavement conditions, road markings and road signs etc. The amount of road data is increasing rapidly due the the use of mobile monitoring systems. Data is fragmented and needs to be harmonized. Most road authorities are facing challenges with low maintenance budgets - improved methods for using data for optimal for securing mobility and safety are needed.
5 Background - Safety : The quality of road surfaces, road signs and road markings plays a vital role in road safety today. In the future Advanced Driver Assisted systems will rely on the quality of road markings - effective cross border data of markings quality will be mandatory for ensuring safety.
6 Background EU open data strategy: The open data strategy as formulated in the EU directive - Open data - An engine for innovation, growth and transparent governance; demands all public institutions to make their data available to the public. All European road authorities should make their road data available for the public within the next years. This could be done by each road authority, but would be far more efficient and even a demand for big data usage if the data are linked and cross border harmonized in one European portal. The basic idea of this project is to make a pan-european big cloud data portal for road data in Europe.

8 Road Authorities,Road owners, GIS consultants Increased access to cross border data and big data services. Efficient platform for storing and making data from road authorities available to the public for open access. Cross border exchange of information on road data Consultants /GIS companies can harmonized data for traffic and maintenance planning
9 Data capture companies and monitoring equipment manufacturers Transmission of data to cloud ensuring data security, protections and data liability. Instant access to monitored data for back office data analysis and reporting. The data are instantly accessible for other stakeholder groups based on access rights. Remote service and data validation of monitoring systems.
10 Material suppliers. Data mining to evaluate and optimize product performance. Documents performance across entire European core network. Big data analysis can be used to cross border analysis of materials durability depending on traffic density, type, climate and road construction etc.
11 Big data companies Big data companies will have one single data portal only for efficiently reuse of cross border public data. The data portal will offer a potential for creating new companies as well as services for excisting companies based on big data. DELTA will create and operate the data platform
12 The European Commission The Big data Platform can be used for monitoring of cross country legislation status regarding infrastructure. Monitoring of legislations issues regarding minimum requirements. One data base for all road data in the TEN Core Network.
13 Expected Impacts: Implementing EU open data policy for road data. Cross border harmonization and communication of road data. Generation of new big data companies and services. Big data services will create improved information of transportation, traffic density and optimization of maintenace. Development of new enhanced products for the road sector. Ensuring the instant access to monitored road data for road owners and authorities. Support the European legislation of minimum requirements.
