1 Buncombe County Public Libraries Summer Reading Program 2014 Black Mountain Library 105 Dougherty Street Thursday, June 26 at 2pm All ages welcome The Healing Force The Anderson family brings stories and songs from all over the world. This will be the BOOM! to begin our summer programs. Friday, June 27 at 3pm Age Duct Tape Art for Teens Let's spark up our creativity and make some cool things with the greatest invention of the 20th Century - duct tape! Thursday, July 10 at 10:30am Whizzing Into Our Solar System Stories and activities about planets and the sun. All ages welcome Thursday, July 17 at 10:30am All ages welcome Terrarium Fun Plant science and stories while creating a terrarium to take home and watch grow. YES! Thursday, July 24 at 9am-4pm (with hour lunch break) Ages 8-12 Secret Agent 23 Skidoo Song Writing Workshop Workshop participants will perform the song they create with Secret Agent 23 Skidoo at his performance that evening at Lake Tomahawk. Program is limited to 23 participants. Preregistration is required by calling Thursday, July 31 at 10:30am Magnet Mania All sorts of experiments with and fun facts about magnets. All ages welcome.

Please call to sign up for this free program. Enka-Candler Library 1404 Sand Hill Road All Summer Long Age 2 & up Box Bots! Make a robot at home from a cereal box and bring it in to the library to display. There will be awards for all bots. Plan to pick up your robot at our July 22 nd Robot Dance Party! All Summer Long Whisper Tube Shhh! Come in and try out our whisper tube and learn more about the science of sound. All summer long. Friday, June 27 at 1:30pm Steve Somers, Amazing Teacher Age 4 & up

Tuesday, July 15 at 9:30am Ages 2-6 Story Time at the Sand Hill Community Garden We'll share stories and songs in the garden, followed by a tour with SHCG volunteers. Learn what the SHCG is doing in our community. Rain date for this program is July 22 at 9:30am. Tuesday, July 22 at 5-7pm Robot Dance Party! Dance instructor Lisa Zahira will teach us how to do the Robot, followed by a short puppet performance by Madison Cripps and his robot, Bolts. We'll serve light refreshments and if you displayed a Box Bot at the library, you can pick it up and see what award your robot won! Tuesday, August 5 at 2pm Age 6 & up Animal Tracks with the NC Museum of Natural Sciences Meet animals you might find in your backyard. Space is limited so a reservation is required. Join us on an amazing fun-filled journey as civilization uncovers the mysteries of ELECTRICITY! For age 5 & up. Thursday, July 24 at 11am Fall, Balance and Spin: A Juggler's Tale with the Flow Circus Paul Miller's comedy, juggling and magic show engages audiences of! Thursday, July 31 at 2:30pm Professor Whizzpop's Reading Explosion This show is designed to encourage kids to read! There will be mad scientists, inventors and huge amounts of audience involvement. Swannanoa Library 101 W. Charleston Street Tuesday, June 3 at 6:30pm The Magic of Seeds Master Gardener Susan Wodek brings the "seedy" side of plants to life in her discussion on the magic and mystery of seeds and how they grow. See a wide array of different seeds and join her in an experiment to see how quickly seeds begin their journey to growing plant. Tuesday, July 1 at 5pm Rocking Rockets Rock your rocket with the Asheville Makers! They will be on site just before Groovin' on Grovemont Tuesday, July 1 to provide a fun hands-on workshop to make and launch paper rockets. Fun for! Tuesday, July 1 at 6pm Groovin On Grovemont: Fun for The Whole Family! Have a fantastic time groovin' in Grovemont July 1st, 15th & 29th starting at 6pm. This family friendly music festival features a different local band each night, along with pizza and other goodies to tempt everyone. Bring a camp chair or blanket to dance and frolic the evening away. Friday, July 18 at 3pm Fish the Magish Age 3 & up

8 Fish the Magish brings magic, mystery and intrigue to everyone! Learn why reading sparks your imagination; see a young and funny mad scientist try an experiment filled with laughter. Mike Fisher, a.k.a. Fish the Magish is an experienced performer--popular throughout the North Carolina and beyond! Wednesday, August 6 at 2pm Animal Tracks and Signs With The NC Museum of Natural Sciences All ages Tuesday, August 12 at 10am-12n 5-12 Bottle Rocket Blast-Off Join nationally board certified high school science teacher Tom Ferguson in this exciting experiment in physics. Children (ages 5-12) will investigate force and motion by designing and launching a water rocket. Please bring a clean, empty, two liter bottle, a positive attitude, and parental supervision. If the weather is wet, dress accordingly. This is a ticketed event; pick up your free ticket at the library. Weaverville Library 41 N.
