1 The Ebook Library (EBL) provides access to more than 2,500 ebooks dealing with the STEM-H disciplines: science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and health. To access this collection, select the link to e-books on DCC s e-library page at: When you select the EBook Library you will be directed to login to the database through your library. Select Danville Community College from the list of colleges and then click on the GO button. On the following page enter your MyDCC username and password. You can search for ebooks in the EBL Library in a variety of ways. You can perform a Quick Search, which works much like any web search by cross-searching data across the EBL catalog to retrieve and rank the most relevant results. You can also perform a Full Text Search, which searches the entire contents of all ebooks. Advanced Search enables you to perform more complex searches. You can include multiple criteria in your search (for example, keyword, title, author, year published, etc.) or exclude criteria from your search. The Advanced Search page is displayed below.

2 Another way to search for titles is to Browse by category. This search method displays a complete list of ebooks available within a particular search category, such as Engineering: Civil; Mathematics; Medicine; or Science: Chemistry. You can also look at the entire catalog of available ebooks by selecting the link to View Full Catalogue. When you search this way, the titles are displayed by newest first. You can change the way the ebooks are displayed by clicking inside the Sort by box and selecting one of the other options: publication date; author; title; publisher. The Ebook Library is designed to work across all operating systems and web browsers (IE, Firefox, Chrome, Safari, and Opera). Adobe Digital Editions (ADE) is required to download EBL ebooks for reading offline. Adobe Reader is required to print or copy from the EBL Online Reader. Links to download this free Adobe software are available on the initial search page. The ebooks that are part of the EBL Library cannot be downloaded on DCC campus computers. If you are working on a PC in the Library or elsewhere on campus, you should always choose to read the ebooks online. Patrons using ipads, iphones, or Android devices can download and read EBL ebooks via the free Bluefire Reader app.

3 You are required to read a book online before you can download it. After you have spent 5 to 10 minutes reading a book online, a message will appear stating: Your time browsing this book has elapsed. Do you wish to continue? If you select Yes, you are taken through a series of steps to borrow the ebook and to download it. Downloaded ebooks are borrowed for 7 days. If you select No, you are returned to the EBL catalog. To continue accessing the ebook once a loan has expired, simply create another loan request. Creating a loan request enables you to print and copy pages from the ebook. Printing is restricted to 20% of each ebook, and copying is restricted to 5% of the ebook. Remaining print/copy balances can be viewed for each ebook on the Details tab in the Online Reader. The EBL print screen will also tally your remaining print balance while you print. Note: The EBL system does not stop users from reprinting pages they have already tried to print. So, even though pages may have been subtracted from your print quota, as long as you select any of the same pages to reprint, you should be able to print them again, even if the print quota has been reached.

4 When you are on the initial patron interface page, you can view a list of ebooks which you currently have checked out by selecting the Current Loans icon. You can also select the Recently Accessed Icon to see a list of titles you have looked at or borrowed. You can also view this information by selecting the Bookshelf tab on the patron interface or the Bookshelf link in the online reader. You can create collections of ebooks in EBL. Selecting the My Collections icon will display your collections. When you are viewing an ebook, click on the Add to Collection link to add the ebook to your collection. You can also create different collections of ebooks. Notes can be created on any page in the EBL Online Reader by clicking on the Notes tab. Once created, Notes can be accessed via the Bookmarks tab on the corresponding book s details page see pages below.
