At the European Parliament On December 2014 the European Parliament officially recognised the creation of the Sport Intergroup. One of the objective of this intergroup is to address some central issues with worldwide experts, but also with small and medium enterprises and associations. Some of the themes addressed are: Sport and health Sport business Social promotion and education Ethics and integrity in sport Employment

At the Council of the European Union

Some important conclusions The Council recognises that: Sport could represent an important driver to narrow the gap in EU innovation Sport clusters can provide a favourable environment for promoting sport, physical activity, product innovation and business creation The Council invites the Member States, the Commission and Sport Stakeholders to Promote the creation and development of both cross-sectoral and cross-border clusters Foster and facilitate research and innovation in the field of sport Raise awareness about the potential of sport as a new source of growth and employment Encourage the use of EU funding instruments to develop innovative solutions regarding the economic dimension of the sport sector

At the European Commission DG Grow

The Four Main Chapters 1. Maximising the efficiency of investment in sport infrastructure 2. Fostering the competitiveness of sport-related industries 3. Implementation and governance 4. Strengthening demand for sports and recreational activities and related goods. Maximising the spill-over effects of sports on growth and employment

Chap.2: The Role of Innovation - Clusters Innovation is an important driver of productivity and competitiveness. The development of specific cross-border international clusters with universities, research centres and industry is very important for sport-related industries A cluster provides the ideal environment not only for promoting sport and physical activity but also for product innovation and business creation. The Commission provides grants for the internationalisation of clusters through the European Strategic Cluster partnerships under COSME.

Actions

To highlight Member States should fully benefit from the funding possibilities under EU Regional funds (ERDF) in order to strengthen research, technological development and innovation in sport-related industries. The Commission to support sports clusters and cluster collaboration across the EU, especially through EPSI the European Platform for Sports Innovation

EPSI and its clusters 1. Indescat is the Catalan Sports Industry Cluster. It brings together companies and research centres related to sport Its main objective is to develop actions that improve companies' competitiveness and to encourage the development of innovative products and services. It offers different services in 6 strategic areas: innovation, training, business club, internationalisation, visibility and networking 2. Sporaltec It is an essential link for cooperation and growth in sport, leisure and health industries in France and the Rhône-Alpes region. It groups together the largest public and private research laboratories with small, medium-sized and large companies of the sector Their aim is to help the members to progress towards economic excellence and increase their leadership and their competitiveness. Its services include: support in innovation, monitoring, training and events/communication.

Strategic Research Innovation Agenda 1. Innovation in sport, an answer to various health issues Prevents the development of the so-called non-communicable diseases Assists the ageing and sedentary population Reduces security issues 2. Innovation to meet the needs of the evolving sports market Diversification and changing characteristics of the global sports market Servitization, sharing systems and participatory economics The sport market can benefit from cross-fertilization with other sectors Design and manufacturing techniques The new shopping experience. New retail technologies

3. Innovation in sport in line with sustainability goals (Smart) accommodations and events Sustainable sport products 4. Using data, technology and innovation to drive change in the sports market Performance Comfort Sports management Sports fashion 5. Innovation to meet the personalized demands of the customers Customization and co-creation, data driven design Technification of users 6.
