1 Week 6 Term 4 Newsletter An Independent Public School Tuesday 17 November 2015 PRINCIPAL S PEN Principal s Report Week 6, Term 4 Newsletter Student Report Student reports will be sent home on Friday, 11 December The reporting timeline is a set structure that is based on scheduling set time for assessment, moderation, data input, editing, administration editing, printing and packaging. Student reports cannot be released before Friday 11 December Parents may leave a forwarding address if they take an early family vacation so reports can be posted to them. In-term Swimming 2016 Unfortunately we re unable to coordinate in-term swimming in The dates requested in Term 1 and Term 4 could not be accommodated in We have been advised that when submitting our Preference Return for 2017 that we make a note in the Special Consideration section that we wish to be given priority as our school missed out in The dates we requested were in late Term 1 and Term 4. These dates have less of an impact on core curriculum, student learning and class operational needs. The weather is also ideal at this time with less colds and sickness in general. Parents may wish to consider enrolling their child in vacation swimming for the December January holidays. Please contact education.wa.edu.au/swimming to see if places are still available for December/January or alternatively look at making a booking for vacation swimming throughout the 2016 school holiday periods. Class Preferences for 2016 Class preferences are closed for While we do consider parent requests, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to accommodate them. If you still have any queries or need assistance regarding next year s classes, please contact me at school for a meeting. School Board Training New School Board members will be attending a training session at Dalmain Primary School on Tuesday 24 November 2015 at 6.00 pm. School Concert Two important and detailed notes will be coming home today regarding the Christmas Event on Friday 4 th December. These will be giving you information about the ticket sales, the format for the evening and costume attire. Yours truly Mr Mitchell Principal DEPUTY DIALOGUE Instrumental Music Offers have now been given to students who expressed an interest in the 2016 Instrumental Music program. Please return these to me in the Office by Tuesday 24 November Dance lessons Our Year 5 and 6 students have been participating in dance lessons through Humphries Dance on Friday afternoons. I would like to congratulate them on the fantastic job they are doing. Curriculum Changes In 2016 Creaney will be reporting on a new curriculum area from the West Australian Curriculum. This area is called HASS, which stands for Humanities and Social Sciences. HASS includes Geography, History, Civics and Citizenship and Economics and Business (from Year 5). This replaces the Society and Environment learning area. Ms Harrison Deputy Principal Yr3-6 School Board Meeting The next School Board meeting will be held in the conference room on Monday 30 November at 7:30 pm. The 2016 Draft Financial Budget will be reviewed and endorsed at this meeting. Student performance data that leads to school planning and the annual report will also be reviewed at this meeting.

City Of Joondalup Interschool Tennis Competition Creaney Primary School has been invited to participate in the inaugural City of Joondalup Interschool Tennis Competition which is being organised by Richard Sampson from InStyle Tennis Management at Sorrento Tennis Club. Creaney PS will have two teams involved in the competition Year 4 & Under (Orange Ball 6 players mixed boys and girls) and Year 6 & Under (Green Ball 8 players mixed boys and girls). Parents and Carers from PP1 and PP2 are invited to join in (or watch) our FMS Fun Day on Thursday 3 December at 8:40-9:40am. The students cannot wait to show off their Fundamental Movement Skills! Ms Collins Sports Teacher LIBRARY NOTICE As the end of term and the school year are fast approaching, can Parents/Caregivers ensure your children please return all their library books by Friday 20th November as I am required to do an end of year stocktake. If you are unable to locate the books, a charge of $10.00 per book should be forwarded to the library as soon as possible. CHAPLAIN S CHAT Hello Creaney PS Community! I have some exciting news... my husband and I are expecting a baby in the future!! I look forward to sharing with you the gender once I know. I also look forward to chatting with you all and receiving advice about pregnancy and newborns from all you wonderful mummies and daddies at school. I am definitely experiencing a new first hand respect for mums haha! What a life changing time, full of challenges but full of expectations and promise. Thank you already for your kind words and congratulations. Tosari Chaplain T&E BUILDING AFTERNOON WITH PP1 AND PP2 Mums, Dads and families were invited to help build a Community that we have been designing during T&E. They all worked very hard to make some wonderful and creative buildings! Thanks to all the families who were able to help out. What a great turnout! You can now see our finished projects in the library. Mrs Graffin Teacher Mrs Sutton Library Officer

3 CHEVRON PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION Huge congratulations to Ben! He competed against 2000 other students in the Chevron Photography Competition and was awarded 1st place in the WA Habitats and Ecosystems category, Year 3-6 age group. He won a massive $250 for himself and $750 for the school. Title: Aussie green and gold shines bright in our future Caption: Sanctuary zones at Marmion Marine Park provide total protection to the marine life that call this incredible beach home. The West Australian asked Ben why he competed in this competition, Ben replied, I entered the competition to challenge myself with this out of school activity. Protecting the environment, for me, means that we must ensure that all creatures have somewhere safe to live and a place to call home. I am very excited about winning and I can t wait to tell my family. All of us here at Creaney are very excited for Ben in winning this competition and starring in the ED-News section of The West Australian! Well Done! Mr Dowding Teacher
