6 Auditioning and Playing Back MIDI MIDI Thru versus the Default Through Instrument MIDI Thru (Options > MIDI Thru) Passes MIDI information from your controller to the virtual instrument or other device assigned on a recordenabled MIDI or Instrument track. Default Thru Instrument (Preferences > MIDI) Determines the virtual instrument or MIDI output that gets triggered when: a) You play a connected MIDI controller without record-enabling a MIDI or Instrument track. b) You audition a MIDI clip from the Clip List. Auditioning MIDI Clips Option-click (Mac) or Alt-click (Windows) the clip in the Clip List

7 Quantizing Audio and MIDI Data Grid Quantize versus Groove Quantize Grid quantize = quantize to a strict timing grid Groove quantize = quantize to a Groove template Using Input Quantize Event > Event Operations > Input Quantize Enforces a timing pattern by quantizing incoming MIDI data Quantizing after Recording Event > Event Operations > Quantize Adjusts existing MIDI notes to improve timing or achieve a rhythmic feel Quantizing Audio Clips Only clip start location is changed Quantizing Elastic Audio Clips Event Markers closest to the Quantize Grid are promoted to Warp Markers
