This package is designed to help you complete your Application for Registration of Compliance with ANSI/AGRSS Automotive Glass Replacement Standard in order to obtain your accreditation. The following pages contain documents to help you complete all eight selfassessment deliverable requirements on the AGRSS deliverables checklist-sheet pictured below. Section 4.01 of ANSI/AGRSS Standard: Those engaged in automotive glass replacement shall use retention systems that are produced under documented quality assurance standards. Dow Automotive response: All Dow Automotive materials are manufactured according to internal American Standard Testing Method (ASTM) and International Standardization Organization (ISO) procedures. Furthermore, our adhesives meet or exceed all OEM and Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) and are crash proven, having passed the FMVSS 212 windshield retention test. Dow Automotive also subjects all their adhesives to severe long-term durability lab and field tests to ensure lasting performance and long-term safety. Our code of practice ensures that all vehicles are restored to the OEM design specification for structural integrity and aesthetics. And, our products and training comply with all AGRSS standards. In addition to documents provided for conformance here, we also provide Dow Automotive users with Safe Windshield Replacement Facts and Corrosion is Dangerous informational brochures for their customers. These serve a purpose in section 1.2 of the ANSI/AGRSS Standard: To promote public awareness of the need for safe installation procedures, which will reduce the risk of personal injury and/or death from traffic accidents. Section 4.03 of ANSI/AGRSS Standard: Those engaged in automotive glass replacement must use either an OEM-approved retention system or equivalent retention system as certified in writing by the equivalent retention system manufacturer directly or through a private labeler. Dow Automotive response: Dow Automotive supplies the urethane adhesives used to originally install windshields in nearly all domestic autos and two thirds of all vehicles manufactured worldwide. Adhesive systems from Dow Automotive have passed all Ford, GM, DaimlerChrysler and transnational manufacturer durability, vibration, cold impact and fogging resistance performance tests, including the two-year Michigan exposure test required exclusively by DaimlerChrysler. When used as directed, all Dow Automotive adhesives meet or exceed all of the OEM strength requirements outlined in glass bonding specifications. Section 4.04 of ANSI/AGRSS Standard: Those engaged in automotive glass replacement shall obtain and follow written comprehensive and current application instructions from the retention system s manufacturer or private labeler. These instructions shall include at least the proper use of the retention system storage specifications, minimum drive-away time charts containing temperature and humidity variables if applicable, and any special procedures required for adverse weather conditions. 13 PAGE 13 Dow Automotive Drive-away Time Data Crash testing is the only way to prove an adhesive system s safe drive-away claims. BETASEAL safe drive-away times are confirmed through actual vehicle crashes. We use the same adhesives and procedures for our tests that you would for an aftermarket replacement. Advanced cure Advanced-cure urethane adhesive is a one-component material with enhanced chemical crosslinking to speed bonding for safe drive-away times. Advanced-cure reinforce isotropic network adhesive (RINA) technology reduces dependence on moisture. RINA creates uniform and reinforced properties throughout the bead for high initial green strength, resulting in faster, safe drive-away times. Section 5.04 of ANSI/AGRSS Standard: The vehicle owner/operator shall be advised of the minimum drive-away time under the circumstances of the replacement. Dow Automotive response: We furnish the following Fixed Glass Replacement Record form for you to record installation information including time glass was set, temperature and relative humidity at start of curing process, and vehicle release time. Section 5.08 of ANSI/AGRSS Standard: All glass parts must be traceable to the installation by a DOT number and part number. Section 8 of ANSI/AGRSS Standard: Technicians installing replacement automotive glass shall be fully qualified for the tasks they are required to perform. Such qualifications shall include, at a minimum, completion of a comprehensive training program with a final exam and a continuing education component. The program shall include, among other things: a) AGR safety issues. b) an understanding of OEM installation standards and procedures. c) relevant technical specifications. d) comprehensive retention system specific training. e) the opportunity to apply and demonstrate the skills technicians learn. Dow Automotive response: Dow Automotive has offered its industry-leading Fixed Glass Installation Training Program, and customized training programs for almost 30 years. More than 16,000 technicians have received certificates of program completion like the sample on page 19. We update and distribute the following Fixed Glass Installation Guide regularly.
