1. Plumbing ideas and options. The Landscape Tanks plumbing is identical to a normal rain water tank. Landscape Tanks have many different part numbers to accommodate a range of different configurations. See tank part numbers 2. below. Tanks may be placed end to end to create a wall - fence effect or at right angles and even U shape or spaced apart to suit steps. We have below the most common ways to plumb the Landscape Tanks under several difference scenarios - check of one suits you or ring Landscape Tanks friendly staff for further assistance. a) Open vented system for when tanks are against a house or pergola. This is where the water simply flows straight from the downpipe into the top of the planter top and out to storm water. b) Charged system This system is the most popular as it takes the pipes underground to the location of the tanks. Most water tanks are plumbed this way as customers like to have their water storage away from the house. It is also possible to have the tanks quite some distance from the house by this means.

The distance from the guttering is all governed by the guttering height. Generally, if the guttering height is around 3m then it is quite acceptable to have the tank up to 20m or even more from guttering. The hydraulic pressure of the water drives the water in the pipes into the tanks during a rain event. The downpipes need to be sealed all the way to the guttering to prevent leakage. c) When tanks are higher than the house There will be occasions when customer house is lower than the front fence or where the new retaining wall is to be built. By this means a "sump" is installed into the ground to accommodate the stormwater manifold before it to goes the street. This sump collects all the roof water and a submersible pump is placed in the sump to pump the rainwater into the tanks until full. The advantage of this system is that it actually collects 100% of rain water from the roof and usually the tanks will have enough "head" to provide pressure so another pump may not be needed to water the garden or wash the cars.

2. Tank part numbers and dimensions. a) Part numbers - standard. Most of these tanks are manufactured on a regular basis and are usually available within a reasonable leadtime. We are happy to manufacture a custom configuration, which is not shown above but may take a little longer. Part No 006 and No 002 are the most common and will usually fit most installations. Part No 004 and No 005 are generally used for right angle installations. Note the yellow dots represent the 50mm "O" ring seal at the bottom of the tanks and the Blue dots represent the 90mm downpipe. Always ensure adequate inflow and overflow tanks for your system. Consult your hydraulics engineer or plumber. Do not have 100mm inflow pipe and one 90mm tanks over as an example. It is simple and easy to double up the tanks with inflow and overflow provisions. Tank specifications Landscape Tanks are show below and tanks may be coupled to suit any configuration or requirements and they may also be stepped down to follow the contour of a slope if required. Note: all units come with standard tops - larger planter top upgrade is available and soil may be heaped in the centre of the planter box creating a much deeper soil bed for larger plants if required. Please note that planter boxes drain to the rear and not into the tank underneath.

b) Tanks sizes. Standard unit external dimensions - nominal Length: 2,800 mm Width: 1,100 mm Height: 1,055mm including standard planter top Weight: 2,495 kg including standard top (835kg) Capacity: 1,750 litres Medium sized unit external dimensions Length 2,800mm Width 1,100mm Height 1325 including standard planter top Weight 3,200 Kg including standard top (835Kg) Capacity 2,250 litres Large unit external dimensions Length: 2,800 mm Width: 1,100 mm Height: 1,655 mm including standard planter top Weight: 3,945 kg including standard top (835kg) Capacity: 3,200 litres Standard top measurements (standard with all units) External: 200mm Internal bed: 170mm (Recessed base has thickness of 90mm) Large planter top measurements upgrade optional External: 300mm Internal bed: 270mm (Recessed base has thickness of 90mm) 3. Connecting Landscape Tanks together. a) EPDM heavy duty rubber "O" ring seals Connecting the tanks together is a very simple process. During delivery the tanks are placed into position onto a firm level base (virgin soil no less than 50kpa) adjacent to each other. The tanks come with high quality EPDM rubber O ring seals (patented) cast into the walls of the tanks. Simply connect the tanks together by inserting a 50mm high pressure PVC pipe (this is provided as part of a plumbing kit) between the tanks for a water tight instant flexible quality seal. Planter box tops are then placed into position completing the installation process. The exceptionally long lasting proprietary EPDM rubber O ring seal places the Landscape Tanks into a DIY category if required and the O ring seal allows for expansion and contraction of the tanks in varying weather conditions without water loss or leakage.

b) Connecting down pipes is identical to the normal rain water tank. The inflow and overflow downpipes are connected to the same tank through standard 90mm pipes (see picture below) and when there are multiple tanks involved the water equalises through the 50mm equalising ports to the other tanks as required. It may be necessary to have an inflow and overflow in more than one tank depending upon the number of tanks involved. Generally, one inflow and overflow tank will service five other tanks. In the photograph below the water is collected from of the building behind the tanks and passes underground (charged system) and then back up into the tanks. Note the inflow and overflow go into the same tank and equalise to the other tanks through a 50mm equalising port. Note the planter overflow pipe out the rear of the planter top. Note: The rubber O ring external measurement is quite large (200mm) so it is not possible to cast into the wall of the tanks too close to the top and as such it would seem the overflow orifice is quite low in the side (or end of the tank). This might appear to limit the capacity of the tanks so we insert an elbow upwards on the inside of the tank during installation thus raising the water level to correct height.

c) Alternative system or on site detention. It is also possible to separate the tanks and not join them all together. This is handy if a customer wants to use one end of the tanks as water tanks and the other end as an onsite detention system The water tank end of the row of tanks stays full of water, while the detention end fills in a storm and then slowly releases the water at predetermined rate to storm water. All the while this is happening the integrity of the retaining wall or front fences remains intact for a great effect. 4. Installation Installation is remarkably simple as there is a wide and diverse range of equipment available to handle heavy objects even in the most challenging environments. Landscape Tanks Pty. Ltd. staff will be happy to discuss all aspects of installation and design layout with customers and offer advice as appropriate. Installation is very simple and the Landscape Tanks are placed on 40 to 50mm crushed rock (road base) on a firm soil base. We offer a full installation and delivery advisory service to make your project an easy one or we can handle the whole process if required. Placing tanks and tops into position can usually be completed in an hour or two depending upon how many tanks are involved a simple and efficient process. The three most popular vehicles we use are: a) Crane trucks. Crane trucks are ideal as they can lift the tanks over fences, garages or carports and the like, when other access is limited. b) All terrain forklift or telehandler.

Both these units offer similar performance. Both will go through carports and garages and around tight access areas that a crane truck cannot access. Requires 2m x 2m access. c) Excavators. Excavators are probably the most popular and are ideal for placing the tanks into position. They have tracks and can go almost anywhere, even on fresh soil. On many occasions, customers will already have excavators on site and save on costs. d) Footings never place tanks on fill or soft soil minimum 50kpa and above. The unique design of Landscape Tanks means they do not require traditional footings. However, at least 50kpa firm base is required for both retaining walls and any other application such as water tanks if in doubt have soil test done to confirm. See retaining wall engineering drawings for further information. Never place tanks on soft soil or fill as they are heavy and may move over time. We also recommend a base of loose (non - compacted) crushed rock/road base (40mm) on a firm level base (50kpa) to help "bed in" the tanks. The delivery contractor will place the tanks into position and if they are not perfectly level (spirit level) they can lift again and customer can spread the crushed rock/road base around until level. In most cases, customers can do these themselves. Landscape Tanks Pty. Ltd staff will be happy to arrange this should you require.

e) Retaining Walls 50kpa minimum soil density required: L-R: Class 4 10mm crushed rock base is preferred, standard Ag Pipe and Ag Pipe with sock. Pre-engineered structural retaining wall drawings are available upon request to assist any site specific engineering requirements. Drawings are suitable to hand to your builder, architect, building surveyor or council as appropriate. When Landscape Tanks are used as retaining walls they will need to have Aggie pipe located at the rear, to drain any surplus water away the same as a traditional retaining wall. This Aggie pipe is encased in a sock and back filled over the top with aggregate in a straightforward process the same as a conventional retaining wall. As with any retaining wall (most often overlooked) it is also ideal to create a spoon drain at the top of the retained soil to take the surface water away from the retaining wall to stop water running down behind the retaining wall, which can quickly block the Aggie pipe as they are designed to take seepage only. Landscape Tanks staff will be happy to provide more information as required. f) Council permits Council permits are usually not required where works are less than 1m in height. However always check your local council for details as their regulations change frequently and vary state to state. Councils are encouraging the use of water tanks, which also helps. In Melbourne the major water companies City West Water and Yarra Valley Water promoted the use of Landscape Tanks to over 1m residents. Council permits where required (usually for larger units) are almost certainly forthcoming. 5. Manufacturing. Landscape Tanks are made from the highest grade 50 mpa high grade concrete to Australian Standard A/S 3600/2001, which states that goods made to this standard have an implied lifespan of over 60+ years. It can be expected that our Landscape Tanks to last well in excess of 100+ years. Rarely today is it possible to purchase such a quality product. Concrete is probably man s best building material trusted performance over thousands of years. The rubber O ring seals are made from EPDM rubber and in clean water and as such should last well in excess of 100+ years. Tanks are supplied in raw concrete and customers are free to select the colour of render or paint that suits their decor.

tops. a) Standard units and standard planter b) Large units and large planter tops. c) Storage and transport. Always place timbers under lifting anchor points at each end of the tank directly above each other particularly if travelling large distances.
