5 / New product: Galileo Galileo is a pendant fluorescent fixture with a sleek trapezoidal shape. Galileo comes in 4 different lengths, in line with standard T5/16 lamps. Each option uses a high frequency Multi-watt electronic ballast, suitable for High Output or High Efficiency lamps. Galileo is available in 2 finishes, textured black and textured white, each with an extruded polycarbonate diffuser. 6 / First complete passive house in Ostend with functional LED lighting Bostoen NV, famous for its certified passive houses, launched in Ostend the first fully passive house in Belgium. It is the first passive house that is fully equipped with energy saving LED lighting Bostoen joins forces with lighting manufacturer TAL, the lighting specialist with unrivalled expertise in the thermal management of LEDs. Thanks to clever thermal management, TAL leds can not only be used for mood lighting - but also functional lighting. This can show savings on energy costs to the resident of up to 80% without compromising on comfort. With this first passive house in Ostend, Bostoen produces the newest generation of passive houses in Belgium, thanks to the innovative LED fixtures (B4 technology) from manufacturer TAL. B4 is the first LED fixture that can replace up to a 75 watt halogen bulb, both in lighting intensity, color rendering and in color temperature. TAL is the only manufacturer to use a special patented technology from Bekaert: an aluminum foam with a minimal wall thickness which creates a huge cooling. Coupled with unique thermal technology, TAL has also developed in-house Printed Circuit Boards, allowing tight control of quality and the confidence to offer a guarantee of five years on B4. This revolutionary solution has raised light intensity in some areas of the passive house such that the power could be reduced, with an additional saving as a result. 6

7 Stricter regulations The new passive house from Bostoen in Ostend complies with the increasingly stringent European directives on the energy performance of buildings, Flanders E80. In the coming years the requirements are set to become even more stringent until from 2021, all buildings must be almost energy neutral. In our passive house, we already take this into account: the heating costs for example are less than one tenth of the current E80 standard. This is necessary because a house that is not passively built today, will be out of date within 10 years, according to the regulations. The B4-Tal fittings are available in warm or cool white, and fit with their simple elegance into any interior. The luminaires can be easily incorporated into round holes, in a frame, or with a surface kit. Specifiers also have the choice of a wide or narrow beam. Tal now has a complete range of LED lighting devices, provided with this technology. 7

18 Classic ASCAN SQUARE/ROUND ASCAN SQUARE and SQUARE ROUND (originally named EOS) are probably amongst the most copied items from of TAL, a great tribute indeed! This classic was originally developed for QT9 lamps, which fit right into the small round opening, with a beautiful accent as a result.
