1 Thursday 4 February 2016 Reader Helpers My special thanks to the kind parents of students in years 1 & 2 who have volunteered to change home readers this term. Your contribution is really appreciated by every parent who receives a new home reader for their child. Training for the home reading program including library accesswill be presented at the session tomorrow (Fri- 5 Feb) in the staffroom at 8.40am. We will finish at 9.15am so you can attend parade. Temporary Classes Under Education Queensland policy, all classes in all schools in Queensland are considered temporary until the end of Week 3. Our final student numbers will be submitted tomorrow and this will determine our final allocation of teachers for If we need to change any classes next week we will contact the parents of the particular year level/levels directly. (Pat Cavanagh) P & C News Date-Claimer Free Family Movie Night: Friday March , under the stars at Coolum State School. Student Banking: Now with the Commonwealth and Bendigo Community Banks. In 2016 student banking at Coolum State School will be offered with both the Commonwealth Bank and, for the first time, Bendigo Community Bank of Marcoola. Student banking day will remain the same - each Wednesday during school term. A representative from both banks will be attending Parade tomorrow (Friday February 5) to introduce themselves. Next week The Commonwealth Bank will have a sign-on desk at the school's main gate on Tuesday and Wednesday (Feb 9, 10) from am. The Bendigo Bank will follow on Thursday and Friday (Feb 11, 12) from am. (Denise French,P&C Manager) Drop off Zones A reminder that the Drop Off Zones are for drop off only. Please do not leave your car. If you need to enter the grounds you need to park somewhere away from the Zones. The police are often active in these areas so please take note of yellow lines and no parking signs. (Chris Chant)

2 3J Enjoying their first week of school News from 3J 3J have been very busy settling into the new school year, despite the hot and sticky weather. We are studying persuasive text this term and have had lots of discussion about what we can try to persuade Mr Cavanagh to add to Coolum State School Some suggestions were air conditioning for the Year 3 classrooms, a cool room/video games room, a treehouse, a rollercoaster, a waterpark, a McDonalds, a playground like the one at Hungry Jacks, a water slide, a foam pit, a swimming pool, horses in a stable so we can ride around the school or tiny vehicles that we can all ride around in. What do you think Mr Cavanagh? Next on the agenda is our first Senior Parade on Friday then our parade performance on Friday 12 February. I m sure we have a busy and exciting year ahead! (Mrs J) Parent Reminders regarding Workplace Health and Safety Playgrounds are not supervised by our staff after school and for safety reasons, all playgrounds are out of bounds after school. If you are picking children up from the drop-off zones, please ensure that your children use the gates provided. We ask that you model this to children as well. (Chris Chant) Sign In at Office If you are staying in a classroom beyond 8.30am in the morning, we ask that you go to the office and sign in. In the event of an emergency we are then able to account for you. We ask also that you sign out at the office when you leave. (Chris Chant) Y2 & Y4 Year 2 and Year 4 swimming starts next week. Publications Newsletter View the current Newsletter Download / Archive Daily Absence Notification The School is going to be notifying parents on a daily basis of their child/children s absence. This will occur as a text message to the primary carer s mobile number listed with the school at enrolment. Notification will only be sent where the school has not already received notification of the absence. Notification of absence can be made by accessing the Register Absences link on the School Web Page. 4 Dental Van Nambour Oral Health staff is pleased to be able to offer a dental check-up appointment and subsequent treatment appointments if necessary, for students enrolled at Coolum State School in Years 2 and 3. Years 4 and 5 will be rolled out later in February/March, On Wednesday 27 January 2016, Year 2 and 3 students received a letter outlining the details of this offer, and a consent/medical history form. The letter to parents explains the process for accessing dental care. If you have other children who you wish to be seen, their details can be added on this form. Please have this consent form returned to the school office by Monday 8 February 2016 if you would like to take up this offer of treatment for your child. For any enquiries please contact Mobile Dental Clinic 131A on between the hours of 8:00 8:30am and 3:30 4:00pm. (Lori Lacey, Dental Therapist) Casual Position Vacant School Crossing Supervisor A position exists for a Casual School Crossing Supervisor at Coolum State School and at other schools in the area. The Casual School Crossing Supervisor may be required to work five days per week in all weather conditions. The hours of work for Casual School Crossing Supervisors are normally 1.5 hours a day and usually comprise of one hour in the morning and ½ hour in the afternoon. The successful applicant is dependent on: The favourable outcome of a health assessment carried out by a Government Medical Officer or a duly qualified Medical Practitioner according to the guidelines in the Notes for Medical Practitioner on the School Crossing Supervisor Scheme Health Assessment Form; and A Positive Notice Blue Card (This means you do not need to have a blue card to apply for the position) Applicants are required to advise in writing of any charges that have been laid against them or any offence of which they have been convicted of. Applications addressing the selection criteria as listed in the position description must be submitted in writing to the school. If you are successful in your application for this position, you can only commence employment with Transport and Main Roads if you hold a current Blue Card or are renewing your Blue Card and have submitted either a Blue Card Application form or Authorisation to Confirm Current Blue Card form to the Commission for Children and Young People and Child Guardian.
