3 VESA DisplayPort Alt Mode on Type- C Summary The VESA DisplayPort Alt Mode Standard, Version 1, was released on Sept 22, 2014 Enables the use of the Type- C interface for DisplayPort Alternate Mode func:onal extension of the Type- C interface Developed in liaison with the 3.0 Promoter Group 3

8 Type- C Connector Func>on Extension DisplayPort Alternate Mode Host With DisplayPort Alternate Mode Capability Type-C Connector DisplayPort or 3.1 Data Type-C to Type-C Cable Power Delivery or Device (or Dock) With DisplayPort Alternate Mode Capability Type-C Connector A passive Full Feature Type- C to Type- C cable can carry up to four DisplayPort lanes This will offer the same performance and feature capability as a standard DisplayPort connec:on This will also allow DisplayPort data rates to increase in the future, since the Type- C connector has very high data rate capability DisplayPort can be combined with 3.1 opera:on over the same Type- C cable Implemented with two high speed pairs for DP (using two lane DP opera:on), and two high speed pairs for ( 3.1 only uses two high speed lanes for normal opera:on) Useful for docking sta:ons or hubs, or for adding docking sta:on func:onality to a display 2.0 and Power Delivery is available in all configura:ons Because 2.0 and Power Delivery use dedicated wires in the Type- C cable, both of these services are always available, even when using all four Type- C high speed pairs for DisplayPort 8

22 DisplayPort Alternate Mode Compliance Test Plan VESA will develop and publish the DP Alternate Mode compliance test in coordina:on with the - IF Compliance test specifica:on work has begun. The objec:ve is to enable compliance tes:ng for Type- C, and the DP Alt Mode for Type- C, at the same ATCs enabling the use of a single test sta:on 22

25 Two- Tier Cer:fica:on Problem: New features add new tests, cost to cer:fy product con:nues to increase For example: PHY cer:fica:on tests of DP1.2a source requires up to 13 hours of tes:ng. From ASIC to Product, much of DP performance does not or cannot change, tests repeated without value- add Interop is the primary concern for products and more is needed 25
