William Fulbright ( ) Established 1946 Sends U.S. academics and professionals overseas and brings scholars and professionals from abroad to the U.S. International education exchange is the most significant current project designed to continue the process of humanizing mankind to the point, we would hope, that nations can learn to live in peace. 5 U.S. Citizenship Eligibility Ph.D. or equivalent professional/terminal degree (including a master s degree, depending on the field) as appropriate Where an award is open to early career or postdoctoral candidates, scholars may apply if they will complete the requirements for their doctoral (or equivalent) degree by February 1 in the year following the application deadline, unless otherwise specified in the award description College or university level teaching experience required for awards with a teaching component

9 Why a Fulbright Postdoc Award? Postdoc Applicant Perspective My Fulbright experience has certainly changed my life and has helped immensely in furthering my career. The impact was evident in the responses I received for applications to new positions after my Fulbright research was complete. I ended up taking a very prestigious position for my next postdoc which I would not have been able to get had it not been for the Fulbright award. Africa Regional Research Award: Conduct research in one country (for three to nine months) or in two to three countries (for six to nine months). Open to all levels of scholars. AUGUST CIES staff conduct technical reviews for completeness SEPTEMBER Discipline-specific committees review applications SEPTEMBER-EARLY NOVEMBER U.S. peer review committees discuss applications for a single geographical region NOVEMBER-JANUARY Applicants notified of status - Recommended applications are sent to host countries and to the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board FEBRUARY-MAY Grantees notified of final approvals MAY-JUNE Grant packets sent to grantees
