THE REGION Lying at the heart of the Great Barrier Reef and just off the Queensland coast of Australia, the Whitsunday Islands are one of the world s most spectacular aquatic playgrounds. The Whitsundays encompasses 74 tropical islands rising from pristine turquoise waters, hosting an abundance of incredible marine and wild life. The islands are bordered by the majestic mountains of the Conway National Park on one side, the famous Great Barrier Reef on the other and surrounded by the waters of the Coral Sea. THE GREAT BARRIER REEF The Great Barrier Reef is truly one of the great wonders of the natural world and is an absolute must see. It is the largest reef in the world stretching some 2,300 kms along the coast of Queensland and is a World Heritage Area. Knuckle Reef & Hardy Reef Lagoons are two of the most outstanding sites within the Barrier Reef and are visited by Cruise Whitsundays. Scientific surveys report nearly 200 different types of fish and over 150 types of coral in the immediate area of our pontoons. GETTING TO THE WHITSUNDAYS Air The Whitsundays are serviced by two domestic airports, The Great Barrier Reef Airport on Hamilton Island, and the Whitsunday Coast Airport on the mainland at Proserpine. Direct flights arrive daily from the major Australian East Coast cities. Airlines servicing the Whitsundays are: Jetstar, Virgin Australia, Tiger Airways, Qantas and Qantaslink. Road The Bruce Highway runs from Brisbane to Cairns. The Whitsundays turn off is 1 km north of Proserpine and it is a 20km drive into Airlie Beach. Rail Queensland Rail s services depart Brisbane and Cairns for Proserpine several times weekly. Coach/Bus There are several daily services through Airlie Beach that run northbound from Brisbane and southbound from Cairns. 2

We have three permanently moored pontoons at two locations on the Great Barrier Reef, and while you ll only visit one on your trip, both locations are surrounded by beautiful coral and stunning reef formations. Our pontoons have a choice of spaces to relax in and a large range of activities. There are several different ways to explore the reef from the underwater viewing chamber and semi-submersibles if you don t want to get wet, or you can fully immerse yourself by snorkelling, diving and swimming with the thousands of fish. All vessels are high speed catamarans with spacious air conditioned lounges, large outer viewing decks, bars serving refreshments and comfortable seating. The journey to and from the reef is all part of the experience. You ll pass spectacular islands and at certain times of year you will be able to spot whales and other wildlife. Enroute to the reef, staff will give you an introduction to all the activities on offer at the pontoon. REEF PONTOONS Cruise Whitsundays currently has two pontoon sites on the Great Barrier Reef - one at Knuckle Reef and another with two pontoons at Hardy Reef. All pontoons offer slightly different experiences but either way you will be delighted with your Great Barrier Reef experience. Your skipper will let you know your destination as you depart. Both reef sites are located alongside coral walls which you will be able to explore either on your own or on guided safaris. You ll see prolific fish life - don t miss the Grouper! The best coral is a short distance away from the pontoons. Marker buoys and ropes clearly indicate the areas you are free to explore and our staff will be happy to provide directions. A spectacular, panoramic underwater observatory just wander on down as often as you like. Interpretive posters and fish ID photos are on display. A huge snorkelling area is defined both for your safety and the protection of the reef. The area is within view of staff on lifeguard watch. Our permanently moored pontoon Reefworld is located on Hardy Reef one of the most spectacular stretches of the Great Barrier Reef and home to world famous Heart Reef. This is the destination for our day visitors, but for a lucky few, it s a once in a life time, breathtaking and memorable overnight experience. Reefsleep guests travel to Reefworld onboard our high speed luxury vessels, arriving around 11am with the day guests. In the morning, enjoy more private time with the reef before the day guests join you. Guided snorkelling and diving trips during this exclusive time at the pontoon with your small group will see you visit very special spots giant Maori Wrasse, spectacular coral formations, a myriad of tropical fish, turtles and reef sharks all might make an appearance.
