1 The purpose of this information is to ensure that all teams and individuals in social, competitive or casual competitions have full knowledge of the rules and expectations of the game. This will enable all participants to enjoy their sporting experience at Karratha Leisureplex. The emphasis of these competitions is on the enjoyment of participants, a social atmosphere and the development/maintenance of skills. While a competitive atmosphere is not discouraged, players and officials need to remember that encouragement and positive behaviours should always be demonstrated, particularly with novice players. A win at all costs attitude is not appropriate in this type of competition. If you require additional information about a particular sport, National Rules and Regulations will be available from the Karratha Leisureplex. There are also links to these websites at the end of this document. Please note: The information in this document is current but is subject to change at any given time. Management reserves the right to change and alter its Rules and Regulations without notice. COMPETITIONS Karratha Leisureplex offers a range of sports for you to enjoy. These are our current centre run sports: Ladies Social Netball Tuesday mornings 9am-12pm Men s Indoor Soccer (Futsal Rules) Tuesday evenings 6pm-9pm 5- A- Side Mixed Beach Volleyball Friday evenings 6pm-8:30pm Sport Location Game Duration Team numbers Substitution Score Ladies Netball Indoor Courts 4 x 10 min + 3 x 2 min breaks 7 on court + subs Unlimited between breaks 1 point per goal scored Beach Volleyball Beach Volleyball Courts Best of 3 sets. First to 25 (3 rd set to 15) 5 on court (minimum 2 female) + subs At each rotation and between sets 1 point scored for an opposition fault Men Futsal Indoor Courts 2 x 20 min + 5 min break 5 on court + subs Unlimited at substitution zone 1 point per goal scored INCIDENTS AND INJURIES The team captain is responsible for assisting the umpire in reporting any incidents or injuries that occurred during the game. The Karratha Leisureplex Duty Manager must be informed of any injuries and a Visitor Accident Report Form must be completed. NOMINATION FORMS Each team must complete one nomination form at the commencement of each season. This is a formal commitment to the pending season and it is assumed, unless advised otherwise, that your team will play each week of the season including finals. Each team is required to pay a $50.00 nomination fee ($30 for Beach Volleyball) upon registration which will ensure that teams are 1 week in credit provided they maintain this throughout the season (no forfeits). This will account for the final game of the season. All nomination forms must be completed and SIGNED before they will be accepted by the Programs Manager. Page 1 of 6

2 INDIVIDUAL NOMINATIONS Throughout the season, individuals who are not part of a team and wish to play may complete an Individual Nomination Form. The Karratha Leisureplex will attempt to place them in a team by contacting team captains. If your team is in need of a player, please inform the Karratha Leisureplex Program staff to ensure any individual nominations are sent to your team. SUBSEQUENT SEASONS At the end of each season, current teams will be given preference for a place in the next season (if applicable) and will be required to fill out a new nomination form. MATCH FEES AND PAYMENT Match fees are $50 per game ($30 for Beach Volleyball) that must be paid at Reception before the team can take the court. A copy of your receipt is to be placed into the clipboard containing the score sheet. Bulk payments will NOT be taken upfront for the whole season. NO PAY, NO PLAY! The following match fees are current and applicable to the 2014 season: Ladies Netball, Men s Indoor Soccer (Futsal) Mixed Beach Volleyball $50 nomination fee per team $50 per team per game $30 nomination fee per team $30 per team per game + $5.50pp Pool Entry MATCH EQUIPMENT The Karratha Leisureplex will provide the necessary equipment for each sport. It is the responsibility of the Team Captain in each team to ensure that the equipment is returned in good condition at the end of a game. SCORING AND TIMING Score sheets will be at the court prior to your game and each player must sign on before the game commences. Each team will be required to supply a person to score and time each game. This could be a spare player or spectator who will sit together to ensure scoring is accurate and impartial. UNIFORMS Team bibs will be provided and will be the responsibility of each team to care for throughout the season. All bibs are to be returned to the Karratha Leisureplex immediately following the final game of the season. Unreturned bibs will result in a fee of $ The following clothing items are permitted: White soled sports trainers/ runners on indoor and outdoor courts Comfortable sports shorts, t-shirts, polo shirts, sports singlets All jewellery removed or taped and nails short and smooth. 3 FIXTURES AND LADDERS Fixtures will be drawn up at the beginning of each season and are subject to change from time to time. Byes will be dependent on the number of teams in the competition, as will the number of times each team will play one another during rounds. Fixtures will be available at Reception throughout the season. Any changes to fixtures will be sent to team captains and it will be their responsibility to ensure the rest of their team receives the up to date information. PLAYER CODE OF CONDUCT (Adapted from the Department of Sport and Recreation COC) Play by the rules Never argue with an official. Control your temper. Verbal abuse of officials and sledging other players, deliberately distracting or provoking an opponent are not acceptable or permitted behaviours in any sport. Work equally hard for yourself and/or your team. Your team's performance will benefit and so will you. Be a good sport. Applaud all good plays whether they are made by your team or the opposition. At all times play within the spirit of the game. Treat all participants in your sport as you like to be treated. Do not bully or take unfair advantage of another competitor. This will earn you respect from opponents and enhance the positive experience of taking part. Cooperate with your coach, team-mates and opponents. Without them there would be no competition. Participate for your own enjoyment and benefit, not just to please others. Respect the rights, dignity and worth of all participants regardless of their gender, ability, cultural background or religion. UMPIRE ETIQUETTE AND PLAYER MISCONDUCT Each team is required to supply their own umpires as a condition of registration. Umpires must complete an Application of Employment prior to their first game and must have approval from the Leisure Duty Manager to fill the role. It is important for players to show encouragement and respect to all umpires regardless of their skill level. Umpires are happy to assist in the interpretation of a decision if they are approached in a calm and respectful manner by the team captain during half time or at full time by the Team Captain only. Any issues that cannot be resolved on the court can be submitted in writing to the Programs Leisure Duty Manager by the Team Captain only. Misconduct of a player including abusive language either directly or indirectly, unsporting conduct (spitting, rude gestures etc.) and unwarranted forcible play from players, officials and spectators both on and off the court WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. Players who do not adhere to the conduct of good sportsmanship will be first warned and if their behaviour continues, asked to leave the game for a nominated period or for the duration of the game. Should a player be sent off for the duration of a game by an Umpire more than 3 times in a one season, a suspension for the rest of the season will be given to the offending player. Page 3 of 6

4 QUALIFICATIONS AND FILL-INS The Karratha Leisureplex has set rules regarding player qualification and fill in players that all teams need to be aware of: A BYE does not count towards games played to be eligible for finals. If a team is unable to field a team for the finals then the next team down on the Premiership Table will fill their semi or final position. Fill-in players can come from another team in a lower (if applicable) or the same division. Permission from the opposing team must be given for a fill-in to go ahead. A maximum of two (2) players may fill-in in any one match and if more are required the game will be considered a forfeit and a friendly game is played. If an injury occurs on the opposing team that results in a player leaving the court; umpires have the right to ask a fill in player to also leave the court. Umpires must be notified of fill-ins and it is to be noted on the score sheet (including the team the fill in usually plays for) Any breach of qualification rules will result in a loss of points for the period in which the unqualified player has participated. FORFEITS AND LATENESS Once the fixtures have been made and issued it will be deemed a forfeit should your team be unable to provided sufficient numbers for a game. If teams are unable to field a team for a match the fine is 1 x match fee of $50 In the case of more than 24 hours notice given for a forfeit will receive one (1) point and the opposing team whom the forfeit was against will receive three (3) points. Fines are in place to cover the costs of umpires and lost income for the Karratha Leisureplex from the offending team. Forfeits can also be a big inconvenience for the opposing team. Any team who is late for the commencement of their game by more than ten (10) minutes will forfeit and each minute up to ten (10) minutes award the opposing team a penalty point. COMPETITION WITHDRAWAL Teams who withdraw from the competition or are asked to leave due to consistent unsportsman- like behaviour during the season will forfeit their nomination. INJURY Playing social and competitive sport comes with the risk and potential for injuries, especially if players are not training or warming up prior to playing. It is advised that all players adequately warm up and stretch before the commencement of their game in order to prevent injuries. When signing the nomination form the Team Captain understands these risks and will forward this information onto team members. The Karratha Leisureplex is not responsible for injuries occurred as a direct result of playing the sport. INJURY TIME Time will not be held for minor falls/injuries. Holding time will be at the umpire s discretion and only the Captain or injured player may ask for time to be held. Page 4 of 6

5 COMPETITION POINTS 3 points for a win 2 points for a draw 1 point for a loss 3 points for a Forfeit Win 0 points for a Forfeit Loss (unless at least 24 hours notice is given) PLACEMENT OF TEAM FOR FINALS FIXTURES Teams will be determined for finals based on the following order: 1. Premiership points 2. Number of Wins 3. Goals for/against 4. Results of the last 5 games Semi Final 1: Semi Final 2: Final: (a) 1 st plays 2 nd (b) 3 rd plays 4 th Losing Team from match (a) plays winning team from match (b) Two remaining teams play off! Teams who did not make the finals are encouraged to come and support the other teams. Friendly games will be scheduled if there is enough interest from teams. If the end result is a draw, the winner will be determined by that of the official rules of the sport. We at Karratha Leisureplex thank you for being a part of our new social sport competitions.
