2 COURSE SYLLABUS MATH 126 ELEMENTARY CALCULUS FOR BUSINESS AND SCIENCE COURSE DESCRIPTION An introduction to differential and integral calculus with emphasis on applications in the areas of business and science. For non-mathematics majors only. RATIONALE This course is intended to give the non-mathematics major a working knowledge of calculus. I. Discussion Board Forums (2) Discussion Board Forum 1 Discussion boards are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to create a thread in response to the provided prompt for this forum. This thread must be at least 0 words and demonstrate course-related knowledge. In addition to the thread, the student is required to reply to 2 other classmates threads. Each reply must be at least 30 words. Discussion Board Forum 2 Discussion boards are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to create a thread in response to the provided prompt for this forum. This thread must be at least 200 words and demonstrate course-related knowledge. In addition to the thread, the student is required to reply to 2 other classmates threads. Each reply must be at least 50 words. D. WebAssign Homeworks (8) The student will complete 8 WebAssign Homework assignments using WebAssign. Each homework assignment will have questions. The student will have 15 attempts to complete each question. E. Handwritten Homeworks (4) The student will complete 4 Handwritten Homework assignments. Each assignment will have questions. They are not timed. The student must photograph or scan the homework assignments and upload the files to Blackboard. F. Test Reviews (3) The student will review the material in WebAssign in order to prepare for each test. Each Test Review will have 30 short-answer questions. The review is not timed. G. Tests (3) Each test will cover the Reading & Study material for the assigned modules/weeks. Each test will be open-book/open-notes and will consist of 2 parts. Part 1 of the test will contain multiple-choice and short answer questions. Part 2 of the test will contain 6 questions. Each test will have a 2-hour and 45-minute time limit. H. Course Competency Quiz This quiz covers materials from the course selected to align with Liberty University s Core Competency Learning program. The quiz will completed in WebAssign. The quiz will be open-book/open-notes, contain short answer questions, and have a 1-hour and 30-minute time limit. I. Final Exam Review Page 2 of 4

4 The student will review the material in WebAssign in order to prepare for the exam. The Final Exam Review will have 30 short-answer questions. The review is not timed. J. Final Exam The Final Exam will cover the Reading & Study material for Modules/Weeks The exam will be open-book/open-notes and will consist of 2 parts. Part 1 of the exam will contain multiple-choice and short answer questions. Part 2 of the exam will contain 6 questions. The Final Exam will have a 2-hour and 45-minute time limit. VI. Assignments that are submitted after the due date without prior approval from the instructor will receive the following deductions: 1. Late assignments submitted within one week of the due date will receive a % deduction. 2. Assignments submitted more than one week late will receive a 20% deduction. 3. Assignments submitted two weeks late or after the final date of the course will not be accepted. 4. Late Discussion Board threads or replies will not be accepted.
