1 Welcome New Girl Scout Daisy Leaders! Thank you for stepping up to lead the youngest Girl Scouts DAISY s in an adventure that should be as fun and exciting for the girls as it is for you. Together you are embarking on the Girl Scout Leadership Experience where you will help each girl find the leader within herself. With your guidance and mentoring, the girls will develop their full potential, including teamwork and leadership skills to last a lifetime. Girls will learn to work together to set goals, plan and carry out activities, and celebrate their accomplishments. All this while making friendships that can last a lifetime. There are three Keys to Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE): 1. Discover. Girls understand themselves, their values, and their world. 2. Connect. Girls care about, inspire, and team with others. 3. Take Action. Girls act to make the world a better place. And three processes that are at the heart of the GSLE: 1. Girl-led. Girls play an active part in figuring out the what, where, when, how, and why of their activities. 2. Learning by doing. Rather than listening to someone tell them about it, girls get in there and do it! They explore their own questions, gain new skills, share ideas, and take time to reflect. 3. Cooperative learning. Girls work together toward shared goals in an atmosphere of respect and collaboration. All of this will happen because you volunteered to lead the troop. Thank you. We hope this New Daisy Troop packet makes volunteering as simple and easy as possible by providing suggestions and materials for the first four meetings. Again, thank you for sharing your time and talent to meet the Girl Scout mission of building girls of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place. Karen Skole Chief Operating Officer Girl Scouts of California s Central Coast kskole@girlscoutsccc.org PS Check out the council website under the heading What We Do to find out more about the outcomes of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience. The world needs girls. Girls need Girl Scouting. Girl Scouting needs you.
