3 After-Sales Engineering: Definition and design of product and services documentation needed for product life after delivery. Archiving & Document: Historical or inactive PDM data and PDM-managed files that have been removed from the system and stored on any kind of media for safekeeping and future use. References to the archived data and files are maintained within the active PDM system.

4 Collaborative Workspace: It relies on an Information System application where all the data and documents of a project are gathered and stored. It can be accessed (Visualization or modification) by all participants of the project according to their rights. Those rights are allocated according to the project/company rules. It allows to share data such as Digital Mock up (Structure, 2D, 3D, etc ) or any kind of document inside a company or an extended enterprise. Configuration : Configuration is an engineering discipline managing a unique Product design data repository (system, product, manufacturing and services). It aims to manage the whole product components and associated definition data at a given maturity level according to the life cycle for a given dedicated use (simulation, prototype, delivery ). It is strongly linked with System Engineering and Product Change.

5 Cost : of the total delivery (manufacturing and logistics) costs (target, early estimation and forecast). Identification of every component cost according to its location and potential variations. It includes features helping decision making for optimization. Dash-boarding: Methods and Tools providing relevant indicators and synthetic views for managing project/activities. Data Exchange: Set of standards, tools, rules, criteria and best practices guidelines used to define, manage and exchange technical data packages and all kind of digital information between partners within joint processes of a common project.

6 Data structure Bill Of Material: BOM is the backbone of the product definition at a given milestone of the lifecycle. Different kinds of BOM can be defined (as quoted, as designed, as planned, as manufactured, as maintained, ). It defines product structure breakdown and logical architecture. It is strongly linked with Configuration and Product Change. Design Review: Methods and tools allowing to manage and perform the design validation process at a given milestone of the lifecycle. As an example for mechanical design, it can be based upon the Digital Mock-Up.

7 Diversity : Unique management of technical or commercial options of the product and its components. It includes methods and tools to manage, (i) links between technical definition of the variants and the commercial offer (incl. sales product configurator), (ii) the compatibility rules and constraints for the definition of the product. Electrical Engineering: Design of schematics drawings as well as electrical harnesses, including cables routing, connectors definition and their location, in order to define the whole electric circuit of a subsystem or a car. Electronic Engineering: Design of schematics drawings as well as routing of Printed Circuit Boards. That traditionally also includes the manufacturing files. It requires a strong integration between PDM and CAD/CAM systems including library management.

8 Formulation & Transformation: of the chemical compositions in order to generate physical and chemical reactions or composites. Knowledge : Efficient capture and management of know how, methods and practices to enable reuse for greater consistency, productivity and cost efficiency. Material & Recycling: Define and manage material technical characteristics library (chemical composition and mechanical properties ) Manage the product material composition (steel, plastics, glass ) and the associated mass all along the development phase. Ensure feasible teardown.

9 Mechanical Engineering: Design, analyze, manage simple to highly complex mechanical products, assemblies and components. Mechatronic Engineering: It is considered a subset of Systems Engineering, an interdisciplinary approach and means for enabling the realization and deployment of successful systems that include mechanical, electronic, and software components. Module : Design and manage a interchangeable generic set of components including few adaptive parts, organized in variants to cover full scope and range of projects and customer needs. Module management optimizes standard components use.

10 People & Organization: Define and manage each internal or external PLM user s rights for objects access, modification, order management, review, according to this user context (role, organization and project). Plant Engineering: Design of the workshop layout and related equipment to ensure and support the product manufacturing. It includes related investments management. It aims at the best cost efficiency. Product Change: Manage the process aiming to initiate, plan and follow the changes required for a product and the related manufacturing process, beyond the engineering area.

11 Product Manufacturing: Design and manage processes, tools and equipment (e.g. welding points definition, Operating Range definition ) for production. It ensures the capacity of industrial supply chain. Production Asset: Manage production capacities in order to optimize new products allocation and overall competitiveness. Prototype: Manage prototype definition (engineering BOM up to manufacturing BOM) and assembly in order to launch in due time validation tests.

12 Quality : Methods and processes to ensure robustness and completeness of deliverables all along Projects (do not deal with product quality issues. Product/Process quality is a transverse process) Regulations: Gather and manage all rules, norms and regulations into a library, to be respected by the product according to the targeted markets. Requirement : A requirement is a capability to which a project outcome (product or service) should conform. It is an intermediate output of System Engineering. Requirements consists in gathering and classifying performance requests into a library and providing the relevant information to the stakeholders in due time.

13 Resources : Manage workforce (number and skills, métiers) and shared equipment (test beds ). Risk : Analyze, anticipate and fix all deviations from expected deliverables (performance, schedule, cost ) Scheduling: Plan and coordinate time frames of project activities to ensure Product delivery in time to market.

14 Security: Ensure data access confidentiality (data system tightness) either for internal or extended enterprise exchanges. Simulation: Analyze a product behavior without physical parts. The simulation can be based on mathematical discretization integrated into a relevant model. Simulation is used in both definition and validation phases. SME Solutions: Targeting OEM-Tier1-n numerical continuum, define solutions and affordable services (eg. Software as a Service) for Small to Medium Enterprises. Scope includes numerical skill improvement and change management.

15 Software Engineering: Development and of pieces of embedded software used to control a product system. Standard management: Development and management of standards which are validated, frozen and ready-touse components, systems or sub-systems, design or validation rules, models (design or simulation) or manufacturing processes. These address several domains : design, materials, test and validation, manufacturing. System Engineering: System Engineering is a global process that embeds all appropriate activities to design, develop and verify a system providing economical and effective solution to a customer s needs while satisfying all stakeholders.

16 Testing: Analyze a product behavior by carrying out tests on physical parts. Test results are provided to the relevant stakeholders in due time. Validation: Demonstrate Product functions compliance with expectations using numerical simulation or physical testing according to the validation plan. Value Chain Performance: Monitoring the business process performance formalizing engineering procedures including inputs/outputs and KPI.
