Curse Descriptin: Upn the successful cmpletin f this curse, participants will be able t apply adult learning principles and training techniques t clearly identify, define, and explain cnstructin industry hazards and acceptable crrective measures in accrdance with the 29 CFR 1926 OSHA Cnstructin Regulatins as they teach 10- and 30-hur OSHA Outreach Curses fr the Cnstructin Industry. Prerequisite: Cmpletin f OSHA #510 Cnstructin Industry Standards Curse and five years f experience in cnstructin safety (see OSHA prerequisite frm fr additinal infrmatin n experience prerequisites). Required Text: Included in the curse registratin fees and prvided n the first day f the curse 29 CFR 1926 Cnstructin Industry Standards OSHA Outreach Prgram Requirements February 2013 OSHA Cnstructin Industry Prcedures April 2011 OSHA Cnstructin Fcus Fur training dcuments Intrductin t OSHA training dcuments Student Learning Outcmes: Explain participant administrative respnsibilities. Describe the prcess, requirements, recmmendatins, and resurces fr the OSHA Outreach Trainer Prgram. Describe tpic requirements fr 10- and 30-hur OSHA Outreach classes, including cntents f Intrductin t OSHA sectin. Explain best practices in cnstructin ccupatinal safety and health. Recgnize current trends in cnstructin wrkplaces (e.g., Mst Frequently Cited, Bureau f Labr Statistics wrkplace injury, illness, and fatality data). Identify resurces available fr updating OSHA Outreach Training. Describe hw t uphld values f the OSHA Outreach Training Prgram. Explain hw t cnduct Outreach Training sessins with hnesty and integrity, including uphlding values, keeping cmmitments, respecting students, prcessing and maintaining training recrds, aviding cnflicts f interest and acting in an ethical manner Explain why it is imprtant t respect intellectual prperty rules regarding cpyright, trademarks, etc. Apply adult learning principles t training develpment prcesses.

2 Incrprate effective instructinal strategies in training curses in a manner (i.e., using bth a language and vcabulary) that thse being trained can understand. Critique presentatins assessing trainer s knwledge, skills, and attitudes. Explain crrective actins fr cmmn hazards assciated with ladders, stairs, and ramps using the key parts f 29 CFR 1926 Subpart X. Explain requirements related t cmmn fire hazards using key parts f 29 CFR 1926 Subpart F. Explain crrective actins fr cmmn hazards assciated with welding and cutting using the key parts f 29 CFR 1926 Subpart J. Identify the hazards and requirements assciated with cncrete and masnry cnstructin using key parts f 29 CFR 1926 Subpart Q. Discuss matters cncerning OSHA regulatins, plicies, and practices with a representative frm OSHA. (Optinal - TBD) Cmplete the curse examinatin, evaluatin, and clsing activities. Assessments and Evaluatin f Student Perfrmance: A student s perfrmance will be assessed based n the 100% attendance requirement and a written and perfrmance exam given at the end f the curse. The written exam is a clsed bk knwledge based exam cnsisting f 50 multiple chice questins. A passing scre is 80% r higher. The

3 perfrmance exam is an evaluatin f a student s technical knwledge and their ability t successfully present an instructinal mdule related t cnstructin safety and health at the end f this curse. The presentatin shuld be 20 t 30 minutes in length and will be cnducted n a tpic assigned by the curse instructr. Time will be given during class fr each student t prepare and present their assigned tpic. Nte that prep time in class is limited and students may be required t wrk n their presentatin utside f class time. All testing is dne in accrdance with the OSHA Training Institute Educatin Center Test Administratin Plicy issued by the Directrate f Training. Grading Scale: CEU: Graded n a CR/NC basis Curse Plicies: Attendance Plicy: Students are expected t attend all class sessins and t be in class n time. N absences are allwed. Ethics: Each student has an bligatin t act with hnesty and integrity, and t respect the rights f thers in carrying ut all academic assignments. Yu are respnsible t learn hw the Student Academic Integrity Plicy ( applies t yu persnally and t this curse in particular. Vilatins f the University Academic Integrity plicy will nt be ignred. Penalties include reduced r n credit fr submitted wrk, a failing grade in the class, a nte n yur fficial transcript that shws yu were punished fr cheating, suspensin, expulsin and revcatin f already awarded degrees. In terms f defining specific examples f cheating, the university plicy is very simple. Everything is frbidden until the instructr authrizes it. Cheating is ding smething that affects an academic evaluatin withut the instructr's authrizatin. We will discuss in class what is authrized and that if yu want t d anything else, yu need t ask the instructr first. Curse Standards a. Taking ntes electrnically is permitted as lng as the use f the device (cmputer, tablet, etc.) is restricted t use relating t this class b. Students are respnsible fr ALL reading assignments and class handuts whether r nt the material has been cvered in class r specifically listed n the syllabus. e. Students are expected t bring their text, a calculatr, writing tablet r ntebk, and apprpriate writing materials t every class. N sharing f bks, calculatrs, etc. will be allwed during quizzes r tests s please prepare. f. Arizna State University maintains the highest standard fr academic hnesty and trusts that each student will perfrm ethically and prfessinally when preparing required wrk fr this curse. Each assignment must represent the student's cllective riginal wrk, even fr wrk designated as grup wrk. Althugh ASU encurages cllabratin between students, and faculty, in the sharing f ideas and experiences, individual wrk needs t represent the student's riginal thught and be distinguishably different frm ther students wrk. While discussins between students are encuraged, cheating will nt be tlerated. Any student fund cheating n an exam, a quiz, r assignment may be given a failing grade fr the curse and flagrant vilatins can result in additinal cnsequences. Yu are cheating if yu represent smene else's wrk as yur wn r if smene else represents yur wrk as theirs. All graded wrk (exams, hmewrk assignments, as well as any written exercises r quizzes) in this class must represent yur wn individual wrk nly. Students may discuss the cnceptual aspects f an assignment, but students must turn in their wn, independently develped slutins. Grading will include cmparing the structure and cntent f yur slutin with that f ther students. By registratin in
