1 Regultions for Competency Assessments t the Bern University of Applied Sciences (KNR) The University Bord of the Bern University of Applied Sciences - bsed on Article 6 of the Ordinnce of 5 My 00 regrding the Bern University of Applied Sciences (FV) - hs pssed the following resolutions: Scope. Generl Art. These regultions set out the bsic policy for competency ssessments for Bchelor's nd Mster's courses t the Bern University of Applied Sciences, with the exception of the Coopertion Mster's. A Coopertion Mster's is when the Bern University of Applied Sciences offers Mster's course in close coopertion with one or more universities, whereby course of studies or credits re provided jointly nd re mutully recognised. The criteri set out under either letters to d or letters e to h must be fulfilled cumultively: b c d e f g h The prticipting universities jointly offer nd re jointly responsible for the courses. The curriculum is jointly devised by lecturers from the prticipting universities. There re stndrd regultions for dmission nd qulifiction (exmintions, grdution). The credits obtined t the vrious universities s prt of the progrmme re utomticlly mutully recognised in their entirety. The structure nd generl eductionl objectives of the Mster's courses re developed jointly by the prticipting universities. The individul universities coordinte the different modules. The individul universities re responsible for the subject-mtter of the modules. There re stndrdised regultions for dmission nd qulifiction. The credits obtined t the vrious universities s prt of the progrmme re utomticlly mutully recognised in their entirety. Competency ssessments. Definition Art. Competency ssessments serve to give students the opportunity to provide evidence of their knowledge nd bility, thus providing informtion bout wht they hve chieved b dvnce the level of study nd the vlue of the degrees by plcing high demnds on the students.. Modules Definition Art. All Bchelor's nd Mster's courses re divided into modules. A module is n ssessment unit nd lsts mximum of one yer. A module my comprise severl courses. Ctegories Art. 5 Modules fll into the following ctegories: compulsory modules b elective modules c optionl modules. Compulsory modules re modules which must be tken to complete certin course. Elective modules re modules which hve to be selected from group of modules. 5 Optionl modules re modules which cn be freely selected. Description Art. 6 There is description for ech module which provides, t minimum, informtion bout: b c d e entrnce requirements the skills to be cquired the content of the module the types of teching nd studying the forms nd modlities of the competency ssessments f the ECTS credits llotted to the module. 6 Competency ssessments Art. 7 In ech module students must complete one or more competency ssessments. 3 . ECTS system ECTS clcultion Art. 8 The Bern University of Applied Sciences pplies the Europen Credit Trnsfer System (ECTS). One ECTS credit is the equivlent of student worklod of 0 working hours..7 Full-time study comprises student worklod of 60 ECTS credits per yer. For prt-time study, the nnul worklod is reduced ccordingly. 5 A student's worklod comprises b c d ssisted study ssisted independent study independent study competency ssessments.. Grding Grding of competency ssessments Art. 9 Competency ssessments re grded with mrks or with the grdes "fulfilled" or "not fulfilled". Mrks re either numericl mrks or ECTS mrks. 8 The individul study regultions specify which grding systems re used. 9 Numericl mrks Art. 0 Numericl mrks re - Mrk 6 excellent - Mrk 5.5 very good - Mrk 5 good - Mrk.5 stisfctory - Mrk dequte Mrks between nd.5 re considered unstisfctory. 0 A mrk of.5 cn be supplemented with the rider Rectifiction possible. 4 The deprtments determine how these re pplied in their study regultions. Pssing mrks for modules, wrding of ECTS credits Art. A minimum mrk of or E or the grde "fulfilled" is required to pss module. Students who pss module re wrded the full number of ECTS credits llocted to tht module. No ECTS credits re wrded for filed module. Repeting modules nd competency ssessments Art. Filed modules cn be repeted up to twice. The study regultions set out the rules regrding competency ssessment re-sits. Publiction of results Art. The results of ll of the competency ssessments in given semester re disclosed in writing within 0 working dys following the lst competency ssessment. The results of competency ssessments which cover severl modules re to be disclosed s single overll decision. The study regultions specify who is responsible for disclosing results. 5. Conclusion of studies Thesis Art. 5 Every Bchelor's nd Mster's course concludes with thesis which is prt of the respective course. The thesis counts s one module.5 6 Degree Art. 6 The Bchelor's degree is wrded for prticulr course to those who obtin t lest 80 ECTS credits through the modules prescribed for the course. The Mster's degree is wrded for prticulr course to those who obtin t lest 90 ECTS credits through the modules prescribed for the course. Orgnistion Art. 8 Performnce is usully exmined by the lecturers who hve tught the respective module. The deprtment hed my, if there re good resons, substitute the usul exminers with lecturers with equivlent specilised knowledge. Informtion Art. 9 Exminers must inform the students in good time wht form the competency ssessment will tke b wht they must do c wht criteri they will be ssessed ginst d who will mrk their work e wht resources my be used. Public ccessibility Art. 0 Exmintions re generlly not public. The thesis is generlly presented in public. The study regultions set out the exceptions to Prgrphs nd. Lnguges Art. Competency ssessments must be completed in the teching lnguge. Other lnguges my be provided for in the study regultions. Postponement, bsence nd bndonment Art. Any student who misses or bndons competency ssessment without good reson shll receive the grde "not fulfilled" or mrk / F. Any student who is prevented from sitting competency ssessment for good reson, nmely: militry service, civilin service, pregnncy, illness, ccident, n immedite need to cre for close fmily member or the deth of person close to them, cn request postponement. A doctor's note must be presented in the cse of illness or ccident nd the hed of deprtment my cll in n exmining doctor. The hed of deprtment shll rech decision with regrd to the request pursunt to Prgrph without dely. If the request is grnted he or she shll stipulte the time nd modlities of the postponed ssessment. 6 Cheting Art. If student uses dishonest mens to ttempt to chieve better mrk for himself or someone else, he shll receive the grde "not fulfilled" or the mrk / F. The exminers shll record the incident in writing nd forwrd it to the hed of deprtment. In the cse of dispute the ltter shll mke decision by decree. Further procedure is bsed on Article 6. Documenttion Art. The exminers re responsible for documenting the competency ssessments. Records must be kept until the ppels dedline hs pssed nd, in the cse of n ppel, until the legl completion of the process. Justifiction nd ccess to records Art. 5 Unstisfctory grdes must be justified. Students hve the right to ccess the records. 7. Legl rights Art. 6 Legl rights re pursunt to the legisltion of the Bern University of Applied Sciences. Written objections ginst decisions pursunt to Article Prgrphs nd cn be filed with the deprtment hed within 0 dys. 5 Complints concerning objection decisions s per Prgrph cn be mde to the Bern University of Applied Sciences Appels Commission within 0 dys. Objections of indequcy re not permette Trnsitionl nd finl provisions Trnsitionl provisions Art. 7 The regultions of 8 August 998 regrding exmintions nd grdution t the Bern University of Applied Sciences hve been rescinded. Those students who begn their studies before September 005 cn continue ccording to the old provisions. The trnsitionl periods re set out in the study regultions. The study regultions contin trnsitionl provisions for courses begun before September 005. The policy of protection of confidence should be tken into ccount.
