2 The Nordson Cyclo-Kinetic (CK) spray booth provides fast, efficient, contamination-free reclaim in multiple-color powder applications. In high-volume, multiple-color coating operations, spraying colors to waste reduces the overall cost-effectiveness of your application. Now, significant advancements in powder reclaim technology allow finishers to efficiently reclaim all colors sprayed even low use colors without the costs typically associated with spray-to-waste operations or multiple designated-color modules. The new Nordson Cyclo-Kinetic (CK) powder spray booth is designed for fast, efficient, contamination-free reclaim in multiple-color powder operations. CK booths use a series of small, horizontally positioned Cyclo-Kinetic separators to remove oversprayed powder particles from the air stream. As a result, finishers can reclaim multiple colors with efficiencies as high as 98. percent, a level previously achieved only with cartridge-collection powder spray booths. Patent applied for. Unlike conventional cyclone technology, the CK separator incorporates unique design features to significantly enhance separation efficiency. Key to the CK booth's efficiency is a series of small, horizontally positioned Cyclo-Kinetic separators. The separators use inertial force to separate oversprayed powder particles from the air stream and keep more powder in-process. Inside each CK separator is a perforated air outlet tube designed to prevent powder particles from entering the clean air stream for maximum efficiency. During coating operation, the powder-laden air stream enters the separator and follows the curvature of the separator's walls to form a spiral, rotating pattern. Because of the rotation and the effect of the inertial forces, powder particles separate from the air stream and spiral along the separator's walls toward the powder-outlet end. The air, then virtually powder-free, is directed through the air outlet to the primary and final filters. Another unique feature of the CK separator is a powder-transfer pump, located at the end of each unit. Unlike cyclone systems that rely on powder settling in a collector where "clouding" can result in powder re-entrainment in the air stream and lower separation efficiency, the transfer pump at the end of each separator continuously removes powder from the separator and returns it to the feed system. This continuous removal process eliminates the potential of powder being re-introduced into the air stream. Precision engineering for optimum performance. Efficient separation of powder particles from the air stream inside the separators depends on precise booth sizing and consistent, optimal air flow through each separator. Nordson CK booths are available in several sizes to meet specific application requirements. 3 How Cyclo-Kinetic Separators Work Powder-laden air enters the separator and follows the curvature of the separator's walls to form a spiral, rotating pattern. Powder particles separate from the air stream and spiral along the separator's walls toward the powder-outlet end. The air, then virtually powder-free, is directed through the air outlet and the primary and final filters before being returned to the plant as clean air. The perforated air outlet tube, mounted inside the separator, prevents the powder particles from contaminating the clean air stream. The transfer pump attached to the end of the separator continuously removes powder from the separator and pumps it back into the feed system. Fast and easy color-change. Unlike conventional cyclone systems, the CK booth has no inlet ductwork which must be inspected and cleaned. This streamlined CK booth design provides easy visual inspection of all areas of the system that could cause contamination between colors. Housing of the CK separator features two hinged sections that swing open for easy access. and maintain optimum air flow through each separator, regardless of booth CFM capacity, for maximum efficiency of the reclaim system. Contamination-free color change. In multiple-color coating operations, any contamination during color change can significantly increase rejects and reduce overall efficiency. The CK booth incorporates unique design features that make color-change fast, easy and contamination-free. Cyclo-Kinetic separators are attached directly to the booth wall, eliminating any inlet ductwork and minimizing overall powder contact surface area which would otherwise require cleaning. In addition, to provide easy access to all powder contact surfaces, CK separators are designed to be opened into three individual sections to facilitate cleaning and inspection. During the color-change process, the guns and spray booth are cleaned as with a conventional cartridge system. The separators are then opened for inspection and cleaning. Once clean, the feed hopper for the next color is connected, and the system is ready to spray.
