1 Nokia Liquid Radio Software Suites Meet the constantly changing capacity demands of mobile broadband in the most efficient way Executive Summary

2 Nokia Liquid Radio Software Suites help operators make their networks more adaptive, to better manage unpredictable traffic demand and to use existing resources more efficiently. Simple software upgrades effectively increase the network s mobile broadband capacity, whether refarming GSM or getting the most from 3G and/or LTE. Nokia Liquid Radio Software Suites deliver adaptive solutions for operators at every stage of network evolution. New software features enable the Suites to do even more to help operators better manage unpredictable traffic demand. The Liquid Radio GSM Software Suite uses spectrum more efficiently, releasing 55 percent of spectrum capacity for refarming to HSPA and LTE for mobile broadband. In addition, it introduces QoS differentiation for a superior customer experience and enables smartphone users to receive voice calls while connected to data services. The Suite can also reduce Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) by 35 percent. Liquid Radio WCDMA Software Suite offers powerful features that combine to improve upload performance and improve the utilization of network resources. Software features in the Suite allow operators to take the next step towards increasing uplink capacity a hundred-fold and add more capacity. Liquid Radio Software Suites make high-capacity LTE networks more efficient. The features of the Liquid Radio LTE Software Suite ensure that all LTE spectrum assets are used to their optimum so an operator can serve more subscribers with higher data rates. Traffic loads are balanced across different LTE base stations, frequency bands and radio access technologies, namely WCDMA. Key features and benefits Liquid Radio Software Suites encompass a variety of innovative applications. They help operators to balance the use of spectrum and networks more efficiently in GSM, WCDMA and LTE and thus optimize their expenditure. For end users, they lead to a superior mobile broadband experience. Nokia professional services offer feature introduction and capacity optimization services to maximize the network potential by not only integrating these features but also tuning parameters, finding hidden bottlenecks and adding hardware where required. 3 Liquid Radio LTE Software Suite Load-balancing between LTE (FDD) and TD-LTE promises the biggest gain from load-balancing, as initially the FDD bands are more populated than the TDD bands. Inter-frequency load balancing allows load-triggered handovers across the bands. Inter-eNodeB load-balancing is applicable to deployments in which different frequency bands are served by individual enodebs. This is essential when balancing loads between the low and high frequency bands. Intra-frequency Load Balancing adds 35 percent more capacity for LTE network users at the cell edge, whose devices do not support carrier aggregation. It also prevents overload situations balancing the load with neighbor cells. LTE-UTRAN Load Balancing enables efficient use of resources in overlapping LTE and WCDMA networks, adding 25 percent more capacity to LTE when balancing fully-loaded LTE cells into less loaded WCDMA cells. Liquid Radio WCDMA Software Suite Fast Dormancy Profiling is a Nokia technology that identifies legacy smartphones connecting to the network and eliminates the unnecessary signaling they often create and significantly reduces air interface load and control plane load on the Radio Network Controller. Fast Cell PCH Switching enables the network to learn how specific smartphones are using the network s services and shortcut the signaling process for rapid call set-up, faster mobile broadband services and reduced signaling load. This improves the end user experience, for example during web browsing. Another benefit is the lighter network signaling load due to shorter signaling messages. High Speed Cell FACH, which enables more smartphones to be supported on the network and provides faster services for subscribers using lower volumes of data. This 3GPP solution uses the Cell_FACH state to improve set up times and reduce the signaling load between RNC, base station and smartphone. The best gains are achieved with the small packet data transmissions of just a few hundreds of Bytes or few kbytes that many smartphone applications send and receive frequently. Measurements in a live network trial showed 80 percent less signaling, 20 percent faster browsing, 65 percent faster response times and up to 40 percent power savings in the cellular modem. Target hotspots and major events with Enhanced Mass Event Handler which automatically controls the traffic load in highly loaded networks, tracking performance and adapting the network accordingly. Busy events or other hotspots can cause congestion with users unable to get through with their voice calls. Voice call requests can now be prioritized over data traffic during high load situations, reducing signaling and cutting voice call blocking by 90 to 95 percent. Page 3

4 Interference Cancellation (IC) increases cell throughput by up to 80 percent. 4Rx (four-uplink reception) reduces terminal transmission power, lowers interference levels and increases uplink capacity, providing up to 30 percent more throughput, a bigger cell size and/or capacity increase. UL CoMP (Uplink Coordinated MultiPoint) enables a base station to rapidly combine signals from different sectors to improve the uplink at the cell edge. Spread traffic over frequency layers with Multiband Load balancing (MBLB), to help ensure customers who pay for the fastest mobile data rates get the service they expect. Every LTE network has CS fall back to move subscribers onto 3G or 2G for voice calls. This causes unnecessary loading of 3G networks. Smart LTE Layering enables the traffic load to be better balanced between available resources by moving active devices from a congested WCDMA network more quickly onto the LTE layer. Continuous Packet Connectivity (CPC) reduces interference and boosts uplink capacity up to four-fold, serving five times more users and reducing device power consumption. Ensure the most time-critical services and customers are served first with quality of service (QoS) differentiation. With QoS, high-value customers always get the service level they ve paid for. Dynamic HSUPA BLER (Block Error Ratio) allows an operator to define a variety of BLER targets for different radio conditions and traffic types. This improves HSUPA cell throughput by up to 30 percent and increases coverage. Advanced HSUPA Time Division Scheduling makes uplink transmission more effective and reduces interference and signaling overhead with up to 20 percent uplink throughput gain and to support more users. Smart LTE Layering ensures LTE capacity is available before devices are redirected from WCDMA to LTE networks, even when LTE and WCDMA sites are not co-located. It also redirects users from WCDMA as soon as LTE is available, even while they are watching video. Smart LTE Handover enables smooth handover from WCDMA to LTE without subscribers noticing, even while using real-time services. When an LTE cell becomes fully loaded and initiates handover to WCDMA or starts to reject handovers from WCDMA cells, the new WCDMA-LTE Load Balancing feature suspends all traffic steering functions towards LTE. Dedicated Priority allows different priorities to be set up for specific subscriber groups to use 2G/3G/4G and different frequency selection as required. It can also allow or prevent them from camping on LTE. Enhanced HSUPA Interference Cancellation reduces interference for up to 60 percent gain in uplink throughput to fit up to 30 percent more users per cell. Page 4

5 Interference Rejection Combining (IRC) Receiver complements Enhanced HSUPA Interference Cancellation to reduce inter-cell and external interference and improve uplink throughput by up to 30 percent. Interference Control in HetNet minimizes interference between small cells with low power base stations and large cells with high power base stations using the same carrier frequency in the same geographical area. Dual-Cell HSUPA enables devices to upload data simultaneously over two adjacent carriers to raise peak uplink rates to 11.5 Mbps and improves data rates across the entire cell area. Dual-Band HSDPA uses two 5 MHz WCDMA carriers on different bands to double downlink peak rates to up to 42 Mbps. The Very High Speed Receiver for High Speed Trains feature enables operators to deliver better voice quality and faster uploads for high speed train ( km/h) passengers. Flexi Multiradio Base Station Antenna Rx RF Sniffing automatically detects, classifies and locates interference and passive intermodulation (PIM).This allows an operator to take action before the customer experience degrades, avoiding unnecessary site visits and drive testing. HSPA Subscriber Increase feature enables a single cell to handle up to 208 subscribers (128 without the feature). Operators can cover hotspots more efficiently, reducing capital costs and energy use. The device Detection feature introduces device awareness to network and provides a controlled way to allow or block chosen features for a set of UE models. Liquid Radio GSM Software Suite Enhanced Packet Scheduling (EPS) brings enhanced Quality of Service (QoS) for priority subscribers over available resources for higher revenues, while also increasing network efficiency. Paging Coordination in BSC (PCO) allows smartphone users to receive voice calls while connected to data services, helping improve customer satisfaction. Doubling the radio traffic channels for circuit switched traffic with Orthogonal Sub Channel (OSC) delivers up to 30 percent higher average data throughput. OSC Handset Capability Test discovers all Single Antenna Interference Cancellation (SAIC) capable handsets, enabling OSC to be applied to up to 20 percent more handsets, increasing the capacity gains by a further 5 percent. Dynamic Frequency and Channel Allocation (DFCA) can double voice and data capacity and can now be implemented without adding hardware (location measurement unit (LMU)) at each site to support GPS-based synchronization. Existing Timing over Packet (ToP) based on IEEE 1588v2 would now be used for providing the synchronization. Page 5

6 DFCA with RF Sharing simplifies refarming by avoiding the need to add another RF module to support a second radio technology at DFCA sites. DFCA and OSC can be deployed together to allow the gains of both features to be combined, for an additional 5 percent gain in capacity. Smart Resource Adaptation (SRA) enables up to five times more users, with fewer resources needed for small packets. The Multi Carrier Power Pooling (MCPP) improves refarming by providing more power for HSPA/LTE, enabling higher capacity. Energy Efficient Coverage (EEC) transmits signals via two base station antennas, one delayed and phase shifted, to improve coverage and capacity. Precise Paging (PP) sends paging only to specific cells to reduce paging load. The resulting improvement in signaling achieves better customer-perceived quality. Smart Dual Beam (SDB) intelligently builds three-sector GSM sites to enable operators to benefit either from 50 percent more GSM capacity in their existing spectrum and base station sites, or by refarming 20 percent spectrum for HSPA/LTE deployments. Proven in practice Liquid Radio Software Suites are field-proven, with more than 100 operators already using them commercially to adapt network resources to meet unpredictable mobile broadband demand. Operators around the world are already benefiting from their enhanced ability to deliver high-quality mobile services with fewer sites and infrastructure and to use available spectrum as efficiently as possible. In other words, Liquid Radio Software Suites provide a cost-effective way to develop the necessary capacity for new mobile broadband services and applications. Nokia Services for HetNets help solve the complexities of deploying high density networks for operators. Overall costs can be reduced by adding capacity in an intelligent manner: only where and when it is needed. The use of 3-D geolocation technology enables advanced planning and optimization services to ensure that all layers of the network work seamlessly for subscribers. Page 6
