2 1. Arriving and meeting your hosts First questions, first answers Imagine you are meeting your host family for the first time. Although you have sent each other letters or s, perhaps even pictures, these people are still strangers. It is important for the rest of your stay that you get along well with them from the start. Fill in the chart below. In the first column there are the questions, that your host family might ask you when you arrive. Feel free to add some more. In the second column, write answers that you think of immediately; in the third, write the answers out as politely as you can. I'll have tea, please. B I'd prefer tea, please. 2 How's your soup? A It's very nice, thank you. B It's OK. 3 Have I given you enough potatoes? A No, I'd like some more,please. 7 3. Problems, Problems,... Sometimes it might happen that you have to complain or tell your host parents about problems. Here are useful phrases to get people's attention and say what the problem is. Sort the phrases in the right column. 8 4. Finding and asking the way Lost If you cannot find your way, you will need to ask for help. Make sentences from the phrases below. Use a map of London or any other town to practice giving direction and asking the way. Excuse me, can you tell me the opera house?
