3 DDYSC Come join the oldest Youth Soccer program in the State of Georgia! Decatur-DeKalb YMCA started the first Youth Soccer program in Georgia in 1968 and has since been one of the leaders in Youth Soccer in the Atlanta area. We have three generations of families who have participated in the Decatur-DeKalb YMCA Youth Soccer Program over the past 40 years. We offer a full service soccer program: Ages 2 18 years old We offer soccer programs for all levels of play. Recreational, Academy, & Select programs, as well as Super Youth Soccer. Year round program: Fall & Spring Outdoor seasons, Futsal indoor soccer in the winter, and Super Youth Soccer, summer rec soccer, soccer camps, and clinics in the summer.

5 Our Mission DDY RECREATIONAL SOCCER (Rec) Soccer Program provides an opportunity for young people in our community to develop healthy life skills and team skills through active participation in the beautiful game of soccer. 7 Season Timeline- U5 & U6 (SAT & SUN) Coaches Meeting: Sun, February 3:00pm Rosters ed to parents: February 26 SATURDAY LEAGUE (U5 & U6) Practice start: Week of February 29 th Games Starts: Saturday March 12 th / End: May 7 th SUNDAY LEAGUE (U5/U6) Practice start: March 6 Games Starts: Sunday March 13th / End: May 8th Rain Out Dates: May 14 & 15 No games: Sun, March 27 for Easter & April 2 9 for Spring Break.

8 Location Location Location! SATURDAY U5/U6 (Coed) Game Location will be held at Columbia Seminary. Game times will be between 9am and 1:30pm. Practice location will vary between teams, will practice once a week for 45 minutes. SUNDAY U5/U6 (Coed) Game & Practice Location will be held at DeKalb School of the Arts and will be between 1pm and 6pm. (FIRST TWO WEEKS PRACTICE ONLY LAST SIX WEEKS - 30 MIN TRAINING, MIN GAMES)

9 What to Bring! Players should bring to all practices/games: Soccer ball (size 3) Shin guards (Socks must be completely cover the shin guards) Cleats Plenty of water ALL PLAYERS ARE REQUIRED TO WEAR DDYSC REC UNIFORM TO GAMES.

10 Uniforms All players must Purchase the NEW DDY Recreational uniforms package. This will include a home & away Jersey, shorts, socks, water bottle, and knapsack. You can Purchase the uniform through our vendor at the cost of $35.00, this can either be purchase online or at Krown sports.

26 Coaches All YMCA soccer coaches are volunteers. All coaches are required to pass a criminal background check in order to coach for the YMCA. All coaches are volunteers so please help them by notifying them if your child can not attend a practice/game or will be late to a practice/games. We are in need of more coaches for this season. If you are interested or know of anyone who might be please contact Kathy Frisbey or the soccer office.

35 U5 & U6 Rules: Size 3 balls will be used for games, game balls will be provided by the home team. Play will consist of 3 vs. 3 with no goalkeepers. Coaches are allowed on the field during games. A coach from each respective team will be on each half of the field and both coaches will act as officials for the game. Each game will be divided into four (4) quarters of eight (8) minutes each. Coaches will substitute players every four (4) minutes; substitutions should be completed with one (1) minute. When substitutions are made at each 4 minute interval, all players on the field of play should be substituted; this will prevent any player from being out for an entire quarter. Each age group will use the New Ball Method during the game. No throw-in s or corner kicks will be used during the New Ball method. Instead when a ball travels out of bounds, a coach or parent will announce new ball to the players and will gently roll a new ball onto the playing field. This will allow the players to have more touches during a game. Coaches must have parent volunteers on the sidelines to help shag balls and help throw balls into the players.

36 KICKING IS NOT A SOCCER SKILLS PARENTS KINS Program Design and Parents Role: The purpose of this is to outline our special program, specifically designed for the U6- U8 players. The program is called: KICKING IS NOT A SOCCER SKILL. We would like to explain to you the skill priorities and program objectives for your child, the program s format, and your role within the program. Skill Priorities: The technical objective of the U6-U8 program is to teach players to dribble. Dribble is the foundation skill for all the other skills and must be taught first. Aimless kicking will be discouraged by the coaches, as it develops bad habits and has no long-term benefits. Field Layout: You will be asked to sit on the opposite side of the players and about 5 yards away from the sidelines during games in an area designated as the parent s Area. The objective here is to give the players a sense of freedom, encourage the players to think for themselves and wean them out of their dependency on their parents.

38 We ask that you: Refrain from coaching. Leave the coaching to the coach. Do not tell the players to kick it during the games or the practices. Avoid encroaching beyond the parent s designated area until the game is terminated. Parents feel free to cheer and applaud. This is not silent WEEKEND! But please no negative comments and absolutely no coaching. And, Please, applaud good plays by the other team too. Please do not yell at the referees or make negative comments to them. They are all young and learning just like your son or daughter. They need encouragement and positive comments to help them become better and stronger referees. Exhibit good sportsmanship and make the other team feel welcome.
